And you guys tought I had forgotten this...

We will not do this for about three weeks until we iron out the details....
(and yes, Il'l make arraignments for those allergic to the topic)

What special rules should we apply to this?

And for those who are curious....

Ok before we begin, I want to give some homework ...

Read the book (>>LINK<< (
watch the DVD...(>>LINK<< (

And lets talk

Princess Irulan:

A beginning is a very delicate time. Know then, that is is the year 10191.

The known universe is ruled by the Padishah Emperor Shaddam the Fourth, my father. In this time, the most precious substance in the universe is the spice Melange. The spice extends life. The spice expands consciousness. The spice is vital to space travel. The Spacing Guild and its navigators, who the spice has mutated over 4000 years, use the orange spice gas, which gives them the ability to fold space. That is, travel to any part of the universe without moving. Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you. The spice exists on only one planet in the entire universe. A desolate, dry planet with vast deserts. Hidden away within the rocks of these deserts are a people known as the Fremen, who have long held a prophecy that a man would come, a messiah, who would lead them to true freedom.

The planet is Arrakis, also known as Dune.

"And you guys tought I had forgotten this..."

That's quite an accurate statement :)

Well I am a fan of books and the Lynch's movie, but seeing the people's reaction for the Arturian week (not because of legend itself, rather because lack of the diversity in topics), and remembering the discussion about 'themed' weeks - I would be very careful about it...

I personally would prefer rather something like 'Dune mondays' for a month, than doing one particular theme for a whole week.

I must say I'm in agreement w/ Herod. Even 2 or 3 days a week may keep people from getting burnt out on one subject.

It is a major struggle to be creative given a theme that runs for more than a few days.

However, I have to defend the idea a bit. It's very good training for anyone who actually wants to get a job illustrating. One has to generate the ability to be creative in an environment that at first seems engineered to make you feel completely uninspired.

On the other hand, is the DSF responsible for artistic growth? probably not, forget I said anything! :D

I like that IDEA A LOT

lets go with it!

Aw man, this might just be my excuse to get involved with the DSF! Very cool topic, and I like the idea of doing it once a week.
