View Full Version : Can someone convert this model into Maya or Fbx please

I downloaded this free model off and it was in Lightwave format. I have Maya 7. I'm running Linux, but if you have a tool for me I can switch back to windows to run it.

I did some googleing but I didn't find a standalone tool

please zip the file & upload it somewhere, for some reason my security settings won't allow me to save the file.

I'm not sure about saving to Maya or FBX but I can certainly save to .obj, is that ok? any included documentation first as I won't convert it unless it says that it is ok to do so.

I dont have any settings to export it to an FBX or Maya file. If you want it in OBJ format here you go:

This file didn't come with any documentation

and thank you xchrisx, obj is perfect. I believe there is a plugin on the Lightwave web site for fbx support.

Edit: The file isn't opening I keep getting this error:

Hm, it should have worked, try a .zip, though I don't understand why the .obj didn't work..

I'm still getting the same error as before, maybe there is something wrong with Maya :sad:

Strange, I've imported objects to Maya 6.5 without problems before, maybe its an 7.0 issue.
I had to try this sooner or later, please let me know if this fbx file works :)

I just tried erikals .zip file. It works in Maya 7.0 Personal Learning Edition.

amfantasy try zooming out after you have imported it. It's scale is huge. You will need to resize it in Maya.

thanks it works I got the obj to open in 3ds max, and I got the fbx to open on my Maya thanks for all the help, and I'm sorry for wasting everyone's time

Edit: No, not at all, thank you both for testing it :)

Cool stuff, the height was set to about 6feet/2meters in Lightwave while using the latest fbx version for Lightwave. Is the height in Maya more than 2 meters? If so, I assume it must be either because of how Maya reads it or how the LW-fbx plugin exports the file..
