View Full Version : Creating a bitmap through MEL

I am trying to find a method that will allow me a way to create a bitmap in memory, write the pixel information I need to the bitmap, and finally save it to disk.

Any ideas where to look? Plugins to grab? Anything?

I don't know if this works cause I never tried it. But you should give a try at colorAtPoint command. you can query color of a point. Imagine you have a checker texture called checker1. You can query, say its u 0.5 and v 0.5 by running this:

colorAtPoint -output RGB -u .5 -v .5 checker1;

I don't know if that UV point is the same as a pixel, but perhaps it might be a start for you...

are you encoding 3d data into your bitmap? you could always work on a per-vertex color basis (one vertex per pixel) and render out the polyPlane.

you could also export your data into a text file and use this one to render out the image: (
