View Full Version : Expressions or Set Driven Keys

Just wondering whether it's preferable to use things like Set Driven Keys and Connection Editor over Expressions whenver possible.

I've read that Expressions can start to bog down your scene, and make the interactivity of the scene very slow.

Is this really the case?

Also, can how do u use absolute value in expressions?

Perferably you shouldn't use either. You need to use the connection editor in conjuction with utility nodes to get the full performace that you want out of a complex character rig. Set Driven Key has the issues of creating keys that can be deleted by mistake in a number of ways and are also slower to calculate. Expressions can become slow and a real mess if names change in the rig and it has to parse the naming in the expression. Also expressions have to be interpolated which is slower then running a series of C++ compiled nodes.
