Title: Street of Memories
Name: Marek Denko
Country: Italy
Software: 3ds max, Digital Fusion, Photoshop, VRay

Since I moved from Slovakia to Italy I've started to miss a little bit
those nice romantic mornings when I was studying in Brno.
You are going to school and with a bit of luck you can find some cigarette from yesterday night in the pocket
Air so fresh and cold just like it can be in the city after rainy night
sun is low and strong so you have to close your eyes a little bit to see something...
Tired but prepared for brand new day

Dedicated to my wife and friends from University of Technology in Brno
Viva la vita!

Now little bit about the technical aspect of the image.

-All is done in 3dsmax and rendered with Vray
-There are about 2 milions faces plus displaced geometry
-Rendertime in 3k height was almost 19 hours.
-I spent on it several nights during few last weeks.
-probably I will write "making of" so I will share some information about shading and lighting
-I used also lowpoly cars and humans to make it more realistic. Those models are not created by me.

Hope you like it.

Ubersnotchin image! Definitely one of the best, and most photorealistic images I have ever seen. Outstanding lighting, and a "making of" would be awesome. Great job on the buildings and street, the texturing is almost frightening to witness! :D

This is utterly insane photorealistic work, my friend. Although the subject matter it is not really my cup of tea I think you have set some new standards here. I would really appreciate it, and I think others would too, if you would write a tutorial or 'making of' for us simple mortals (in return I give you *****!)

Great photoreal pic. Huge textures and nice afterwork too!
But i don't really inderstand the drapped shadows of pylons. The sun makes parallel shadows, like direct lighting, doesn't it? This seems to me spotlight. Anyway this's just nit-picking... :P
Gross wireframe work at all! Keep it up!

pretty awesome photorealism their. i think a few tiny things which could possibly be done is maybe break up the sky clouds a little overhead as i follow the sky down it looks a bit manufactured by hand. but i could be totally wrong about that one lol. another one is the window reflections in the corner building. maybe a bit too uniform? i dunno, i tried. its very real...

Hm, tak trosku zavidim. Ani nie tak, ze si vcelku uspesny Slovak, ale skor to, ze dokazes zaujat s niecim pre nas tak beznym. V zivote by mi nenapadlo vrazat cas a peniaze do niecoho takeho. Zda sa vsak, ze to funguje. A trosku ma zarazilo ze si Brno volajako prestahoval na Slovensko, ha ha ha. Len tolko ( a este 5 hviezdiciek za to, co som vymenoval )

05 May 2006, 09:19 AM
WOW.... what can I say, this is absolutely superb. The lighting is perfect especially where it is reflected off the pavement / road. The puddles and pot holes in the road / pavement are a masterful touch. If I may add a bit of constructive criticism.... The clouds, although they look really good, don't have the realism of the rest of the scene (can't put my finger on why...) and the front left hand edge (as you look at the pic) of the tram seems a bit too sharply defined, especially if it is meant to be moving... but these are very very minor points.
All in all, gobsmacking

Hey Marek, my friend!!!
Your render is perfect, I can smell the humidity in the asphalt, I can feel the cold and to hear the noise of the cars, it is also a beautiful composition.

Denko, wow! no words for this one. awesome modeling and lighiting. photorealism may not be the appropriate term to be used here, it is above that. i have never seen such a relistic CG render before. Would be waiting to see the "Making of" when it comes.

Congrats for making the front page again, you really deserves that!!!

Beautiful work. I would suggest more trash in the scene. Maybe some cockroaches or flies too. Keep it subtle though. A spider web with water shimmering off may look interesting.

And yes, five stars.

If you were from Slovakia like me or Marek, you'd know everything can happen. It could've been an armoured pigeon going crazy or the bus driver being a bit drunk. Or perhaps they manufactured the sign that way to make you wonder...Slovakia is a country with endless mysteries.

O.K. So I am a professional musician. I very rarely hear and music that makes me think "man, i need to go practice more at this point in my carrer.

this piece of art is like that for art...i could see how it would make others want to go practice their art more. This is the best thing i have ever seen on this site.

the wet concrete is so real you feel like the bottom of your feet are getting wet.

Hi, I been seeing your work and your 'atmospheric' content never ceases to impress.
I love the rain effects on this one.
As someone who's into writing and direction, I wonder how much a walk through in an environment like this would take in terms of cost and time?
Do you write your ideas down before you realise them? How do you reach your concepts?
