(sorry my english is a bit approximative sometimes)
try to work first in photoshop
create a new comp (like 768X576)
select a good font or several and types some names of your credit list (sometimes letters look strange).
work on a backround--black/textured/image etc..
once you re happy with you layers save it... (very important step)
if you very new to this stop at this point (one layer of font one layer of background
import this as a comp in ae
try to move things around or rotate or scale or fade with just 2 keyframes
after you will be confortable with moving this thingsaround you can create in photoshop tons of layers (blured/expand/blended whatever you want to do) and then animate in ae
after that you can use plug ins to animate thing but that another story
hope that help
dont bother ask if you do nt understand

First you must have a good solid base in 2D compositing (like Photoshop)
After that you must have some knolodge on fps, NTSC, PAL, drop frames, non drop etc...
Always good to have some experience with editing to grab the timing for animation
I think the best way to test what you are doing is to see it in the final output like a reference monitor, if you have a TV and a DV camera you will learn it fast....if you have this type of equipment buy a plugin called "Echo Fire" from "Synthetic Aperture" this plugin will preview your files directly from Photoshop or After Effects in your TV, so you can start to get the feeling on how colors react in TV monitors, timing, layout etc...
Would be great if i could talk to you more easily because my english is terrible.
and best wishes for you!
