"duel at sunrise"
These are the rules:
* You have 20, (count them 20!) minutes to do your sketch. IF you go beyond the
assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has
expired, along with the FINAL drawing.
* Also, I will add a new voting category, called THE FASTEST DRAW.
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.
PS To submit your topic ideas and suggestions go to this thread:

Oh my, I finally drew something^^ I haven't had any ideas for the topics the last week, or I haven't been in the mood the days I did have ideas.. So here's my contribution, two wild horses fighting the last duel at dawn. Most of those fights end with the death of one of the horses, or injuries that later causes death. So.. The Last Duel
Photoshop, 15 min

I have one, but its so terrible I'm too embarassed to put it up - all except the idea I thought was pretty funny :p
Nice ones so far though!
05-01-2006, 09:27 PM
I'll leave that up to you, but I'd say put it up, Labrynthine! This is the DSG, not the Secret Society of Perfect Artists :) (as I so often demonstrate, oj)
Brian, love the energy! & Alice, really brilliant colour.

20mins, Photoshop. Great way to break up the day.
05-02-2006, 07:39 AM
Not terribly happy with this one, but I just had to participate as I am going through some sort of silhouette phase with my stuff at the moment. Also, my sketches always end up looking more bland after I save it to jpg... grrr.
PS + Wacom + 20min +Lack of sleep =
20 min painter 9

Hey brianl, thats a great interpretation of the idea and manages to look just like the real thing, when i first saw it i could have sworn it was done using normal ink on paper, do u have any special brushes?
Everyone did well with this one, good work folks.(now i have to have a crack at something seeing as i havent done anything for about a week!)
05-02-2006, 03:14 PM
Good morning everyone! You all had awesome posts on this! I couldnt post last night for some reason, I had the same problem on Saturday, I can type in this morning. Have a great day! :)
These are fish waiting for that first bite in the morning
05-02-2006, 03:52 PM
and 30 min
05-02-2006, 04:30 PM
Thanks Vitreous =) Nothing real special...most of the image was made with the thick and thin pencil. I've played a bit with the settings, but not much. The only place where I used a custom brush was on the feathered area of the hat. That's actually one of Linda Bergkvist's photoshop brushes from somewhere on this forum, converted for use in Painter of course, with the angle set to random based on pen-pressure.

I was sitting in school today when i remembered the topic of this daily sketch and so i drew this one in about 15 minutes with my pencil into my physics book ^^
05-02-2006, 09:17 PM
I only remember "duel" when I started scribbling, top one is duel between light and darkness, bottom one duel between water and fire. Hope you enjoy these anyway :)
Tip of the day: Add some noise to break up solid hues it gives this extra bit of texture to your drawing/painting

20 mins, 'shuriken'
05-03-2006, 12:12 PM
Here is my try. I haven't been sketching for a long time :(
20 minute was short O.o
It's based on Hiroshi Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy (3rd film, Duel at Ganryu Island). I couldn't make Toshiro Mifune look like Toshiro Mifune XD. Anyways...
Audit, I like your sense of composition, good job!
05-03-2006, 02:21 PM
Audit - Great work. Really like the composition and the blue accent color amongst all the warm hues.
05-03-2006, 07:46 PM
finished painting at 18 min, rest 2 mins i played around with the color:
05-03-2006, 08:34 PM
15 minutes, Artrage 2.
05-03-2006, 09:45 PM
Here's a little try from me...
18 min. ... 5 pencils with no sharpener in the neighbourhood (don't ask)
exact 20 mins.
05-13-2006, 06:25 PM
