Long time no post!
So, this is a wip for a school project, an illustration about 'fantastic at the sea-bed'. Basically it's a diver meeting some kind of creature.
Here is a quick sketch, I'll start painting after having some sleep (I think I'll rotate the head and tail a bit to make the composition more dynamic):

oh wow, didn't even see the diver at first. That's a nightmare come to life. I think putting him in the middle of the motion of stopping his momentum/turning around would be a nice touch with conveying the fear this creature would impose. Right now it looks like he's just continuing his dive without being able to see through murky water that a giant thing is about to swallow him whole.
The creature itself is making me think more deepsea/alien fish than prehistoric monster. That's just my impression, I like it. Don't really have any suggestions to it.
As for its positioning right now it looks like it swam down from behind the diver and then turned for the kill. I'm not sure in which way you're meaning to tilt the head and tail, it depends on how agile you want it to look, and usually more agility is attributed to smaller creatures. So on one hand you want it to have a dynamic pose, but on another you want to get across that this is a big creature.
ooh, something I just noticed. I thought at first that it's upper jaw area was its whole mouth. That it just had some kind of sucker fish/parasite type mouth with tendrils and sucking tissue and incisor teeth protruding. I wasn't sure what that lower jaw area was and that was confusing me until I figured out what it was. Seems like it's opening its mouth quite wide for such a small thing. Makes it seem a bit bulky too, kind of get a dumb ogre vibe where as before it seemed more sleek.
these are the areas I meant

Thanks for taking the time to give some crits ;)
you're right, I'll definately change the silhouette of the diver. Now that you said it, it looks weird :)
About its mouth, i'm working on it at the moment. I initially wanted it to be composed by tentacles, maybe i'll remove the jaw, I don't know yet.. I guess I'll have to try and see :)
Anyway, thanks again for your time.
Here's a little update:

Hey nice to see a WIP of yours, always liked your dsg entries. Keep it up, lighting looks cool, a little vague for reading the shapes but that can add to the feel I suppose. :)

thank you :) I think shapes are somewhat better defined now, still not really detailed, but it's ok :)
Now it's time to import it in photoshop.
