I'll give this a try...

I'm using Max and probably some zbrush later on.

Already I've learned that I need to practice more portrait modeling.

I usually model a head in 2-3 hours from my imagination, but this is taking me a lot longer.

I also had to start over, because the first head was looking like crap.

Anyway, Let's see how far I get.

Thanks, I'm looking at pictures of old men for topology ideas.

It seems to help, I'm also doing topology sketches in Photoshop, so I don't waste so much time fixing them on the 3D mesh.

Next is the ear, and I don't even know where to start with the hair. :surprised

The ear was pretty easy to model.

I'll do the detail of the eyebrows and fore head muscles later, in Zbrush.

It looks great from the front, but the profile looks a bit off - but then maybe it's just the bald head that makes it look odd.

I don't know how I should go about modeling the hair.


Poly modeling

or A bunch of separate shapes, then merge them automatically with a modifier.

For the little bit of pubic hair, I used poly modeling, so I'll do that with the head hair as well. The good thing about it is that you can make a few hair locks and clone them a few times, rotate/scale it, tweak it a little and place it somewhere else, you don't have to make every lock of hair individually, since no one will notice the difference (if you're clever about it))
