04 April 2006, 07:37 PM
04 April 2006, 05:00 PM
The boy. Now I'll work with the cloth, displacements, bumps and other details.
04 April 2006, 09:10 PM
This is an Alien Monster in the Da Vinci pose (for squids).
04 April 2006, 02:44 AM
Moon ground. I'll finish now the others characters and texturize all.
04 April 2006, 03:33 AM
This is a flying saucer with some inspirations by the film "The Day the Earth Stood Still".
04 April 2006, 03:49 AM
Just a test of light. Now i'll finish the other textures.
04 April 2006, 04:00 PM
Well now I have to paint the ground texture.
05 May 2006, 02:49 AM
I'll set the lights better when I put the characters on the ground and the dynamics on the craters.
05 May 2006, 02:54 AM
Oi Carlos! Really nice render -- like the extremely well done displacements! Interesting concept -- looking forward to seeing more! (There sure are a lot of Brazilians in this Challenge! Very exciting!)
05 May 2006, 10:39 PM
Now I need to set up and rig the squid. And finish the other things. 25 day left =(
05 May 2006, 07:31 PM
Some skeleton for the squid.
05 May 2006, 03:20 AM
I have to fix some textures and the weights form the cloths and skeletons and IKs for the hand.
05 May 2006, 12:43 AM
A Dual Shock Controller. I try too simplify for a cartoon style. Later I'll put some labels. Just 19 days left. =(
05 May 2006, 01:17 AM
I think you should use an NES controller. It would than appeal to the 80's kids, which would be todays young cg artists!
05 May 2006, 12:08 PM
Its a really great idea!!! I still have an atari 2600, but I think is too old.
Thanks very much by the idea!!!
I'll get some photos from the NES controller. Unfortunelly, I never had one, but I have a some friends who have the japaneese version.
Here in Brazil the "most have" in the 80's are Sega Genesis (Mega Driver) and Sega Master System. I still have and old little card from Sega Clube (lol).
05 May 2006, 02:32 PM
Finishing the textures =D
05 May 2006, 03:43 PM
I'll make a space suit for the boy in the game scene.
I found this amazing 1940 suits. They are prototypes of US army. The style is very cool. I'll make some adjusts for the kid.
05 May 2006, 06:28 PM
05 May 2006, 06:39 PM
That was quick! Looks pretty good. It looks like the controller!
05 May 2006, 10:16 PM
Nice stuff going on here.
Just to be picky, the buttons on the NES controller seem too high, check below for a good reference.
Keep tweaking man, about a month to go! ;)
05 May 2006, 12:08 AM
Thanks for the words, McFly! =D
I'll fix up the buttons. Your refererence is so much better than my. :bounce: I only found this one. And the colors is diferent too. Thanks again.
The time is almost over =(
05 May 2006, 12:16 AM
I finish the UVs, but i have to paint yet.
05 May 2006, 01:04 PM
This is the Tomato Worm suit.
05 May 2006, 06:25 PM
Now I'll start put all together and make the lights. I'll put some dynamics in the craters and maybe a small mist in the ground. The image is very low resolution because of 150kb limit =/
05 May 2006, 02:00 AM
Unfortunely, my computer isn't so good. I will try render in layers to be able to add more details and characters in the scene.
05 May 2006, 01:43 AM
I'll compose this image with the other when I finish then. hehehe
05 May 2006, 08:23 PM
The time is almost over =/ I'll try finish all the things fast.
Just a question: What is the turntable? I have to make a truntable of all my scene or just one character? What kind of file I have to generate (avi, mov, mpg, gif)? Thanks =D
05 May 2006, 08:20 PM
Hey Carlos -- thanks for your kind words over on my thread...really appreciate it. A turntable is just an extremely simple animated shot of one of your main characters. Save your main character as a separate file, apply one basic gray material on him (there is no reason to texture the model), light the scene very basically, then animate a camera spinning either 180 or 360 degrees around this character for 120 frames. Render the animation as jpegs then upload these 120 .jpg files in a zip (not the folder in which you may have saved the jpegs...just the 120 .jpg files without a path).
Make the animation as basic as you want. It's just to ensure you are working in 3D. : )
If you go to the "Challenge Pages" of some of the more serious entrants you can see their turntables. (Some persons place their models on actual "turntables" but that is unnecessary.)
Good luck Carlos! This is fantastic very expressive work!
05 May 2006, 08:24 PM
Hahah, that's-A-ME! Before they kicked me out of their houses because I mooched there NES from them essentially.
Does the turn-around have to be submitted via ftp? Or is there an option in the submit entry area?
05 May 2006, 07:03 PM
Hi Carlos! Last image of the boy is nice! The turntable is "turn around" your main character. Take the boy and make him turn 360°; make a shoot 120 frame long, but you don't have to make a movie file; just render the frames, zip all the 120 rendered frames and upload your turntable. You can fin more information in the FAQ section. Good luck my friend!
05 May 2006, 07:18 PM
This looks really good! Very nice lighting too on the alien space scene. The lighting on him could be a tad bit more bluish or even better yet, the image of the alien scene is the lights texture!
05 May 2006, 02:52 PM
I will put some dynamics at the laser and the craters.
I am worried perhaps about the scene, maybe it is a little confused.
05 May 2006, 04:44 PM
This is my final image. Unfortunely I will not have time to improve it this week, but anyway it was really great to participate of this challenge and good luck for all! =D
Here is the background:
“For a boy his journey begins in the front of a videogame. When pressing START everything happens, a new full world of challenges and responsibilities. Who know how many of us have started in interesting for computer graphics in the front of the videogame?”
05 May 2006, 11:23 PM
Um me! This came out great and the subject matter hits home. I like how the tentacle looks like its about to attack the kid.
05 May 2006, 11:30 PM
Thanks Womball! =D
Your first tip for the NES Controller was very very important!
