View Full Version : Please help me! (lighting through windows)

Ok. I've done this before. But it's driving me nuts! All I had to do was create a window, and then I wanted to put some sunlight through it and cast some shadows from the window. But it just won't do it! Before you ask, I have cast shadows on for everything that's supposed to, everything has recieve shadows, and the light is using raytrace shadows. I can't figure out if it's the modeling that did it, or the light. The light gives no indication that there is a window there, and it just shines light all over the place, instead of just through the window. When I put depth map shadows on instead it does cast shadows, but not in the shape of the window. Please help!

Here's a few pictures to explain further.

Maybe you didn't turn on raytracing in your render settings?

I will admit I did forget that... :D but the light still goes through the whole wall. The shadows are there for the table and chairs, and even the cross in the window, but it still looks like this rounded light with no hard edges.

did you accidently turn off cast shadows for the wall? or do any light linking? If you wanna send me the file Ill be glad to take a look real quick . - Ben

No like I said I had them turned on, and I haven't done any light linking. As of this point, I need to move on for my animation so I cut my losses and took the window out.
