This is my first challenge so wish me luck.

This is my concept. A young boy weilds a wooden shield and sword as he stands at the entrance to a giant castle. The only light in the castle comes from a room in the tallest tower.

Very nice concept, this should look very nice.
Welcome to the challenge as well :wavey:

nice concept, perhaps the light situation might turn out a bit difficult, but you'll make it, i'm sure!;) good luck to you

You enter late the contest, I wish you good luck for the continuation with your young boy.

Interesting idea, but I would change the angle of the view so the viewer can see the expression/reaction of the character and the grand castle.

04-15-2006, 03:56 PM (

Isnt he cute?

04-15-2006, 04:25 PM
awww.... yeah he's really cute. seeing this i would agree with bkeiser3d, you better not hide his face from the viewer.. perhaps you put the cam behind the castle, so we see the lil guy from the tower or something, this way you might catch both the monstrous castle and the heros expression.. anyway, keep it up!;)

04-15-2006, 04:28 PM
Thanks for the advice guys.

04-15-2006, 06:40 PM (

I do realise that I cant hold a candle to some of the other artists in this contest but I'd apreciate any feedback you could give me. Tell me I suck. Tell me how I can improve. Tell me something. Please.

04-21-2006, 07:58 AM (

I updated and enhanced the castle. It looks a lot better now.

Hey Walter, very nice perspective, cute little guy too. Like the grass you have here rather than the stone walkway... Look forward to seeing more, good luck!

looks exactly like my idea of a dragon :)

your image is looking very good Walter (and creepy), I like a lot your perspective, don't worry about the lack of replies...

Hello Walter.

Perhaps you need to work more on your textures. You must keep in mind that your final entry should be at print resolution (no less than 300 dpi). Double-check the challenge's guidelines ( As it stands now, your textures seem very low-res. Also, try creating various maps for diffuse, bump, specular, reflection, etc.

Here's a link that should help you out:

Good luck. :)

The dragon.

Our young Viking in training prepares himself to storm the castle. Though the task is daunting he resolves to fight his way through the castle and rescue the maiden at the topmost tower.

Unfortunatley my machine is not powerfull enough to render it out at full resolution.

On a personal note. I am extremely impressed by the caliber of talent in this contest. All of you have inspired me to take my art higher.

Hey Walter! Great job finishing! Your character modeling and posing is really terrific! Glad to have seen this through to completion -- hope to see more of your work in future challenges! Cheers!
