I'm new to the world of lighting industry. I was just wondering whats the ups and downs for a lighting artist. Are they limits or rules for lighting?. but anyways, here are some tests that I did. Rules were low poly lighting, no camera changes, no object movements, no skylights, only omni lights and diretional lights, a night, day, and a scary mood. I need some serious critiques. ( ( (

hey liting artist!

good work for a start, keep it up.

Your scary image needs work, its not raelly mysterious, but feels that color correction is needed.
u may wanna tone down the red and work with blues and blacks and may wanna change the view from the window, also to make yr room look eerie maybe u can use more of objects and some shadow play.

One of the biggest mistakes in lighting is the lack or overuse of lights. Too little lighting and you scene won't look right, like something is missing. Too much and the viewer is distracted by oversatauration. You have to find the right mix. I would recommend to check out tutorials on the net, one of my favorites is .

But I do like your work, seems you have a decent understanding of lighting and shadow. Your last image however is too red. I understand your idea, but it doesn't look natural at all, and thus defeats the purpose.

But also go on the net, and check out real pictures to get ideas. Those are the best reference materials that no book or tutorial can match.
