Max ships with some very basic tutorials concerning rigging.
www.maxtd.com is a great source, www.3dtotal.com has a few tutorials about rigging too.

Do u want to learn character animation or the software?I think animation skill is not related to any software, its ur ability only, all 3D animation softwares are more or less alike.if u want to learn animation then just grab a copy of The Animators Survival kit by richard williams(u wont regret it) or join some character animation school(if u can afford it i.e).u can check out this

max has a great help u can always read that

well this isn't a tutorial, but animation mentor offers a year and a half program that focuses solely on 3d character animation. it was started by and taught by pixar animators and others who're still working in the industry. www.animationmentor.com . i haven't taken it yet but i signed up for hopefully this summer.

On my site www.robertellisonimaging.com - in the links section - I have a lot of links to animation sites and tutorials as well as much more that are free. Among them you will find most of what you need to understand to animate and most everything else.

Good luck,
