04 April 2006, 07:07 PM

here is mine "samurai" :) , 30min, photoshop

I'm very intrested in how you achieve those incredible effects within that time.
Guess I'm not that experienced yet but I think I will go on with this daily sketch thing. Its rather joyful and quite easy to come up with one sketch per day. One sure will develop I guess.

04 April 2006, 09:23 PM
I don't know why I thought this... but... funny cartoon, may be I will modelise it in 3D soon and anime it :-) . Ps 15min

Rawwad-> fantastic sketch. ( oups I start to repeat myself ! )

04 April 2006, 09:31 PM
Very nice everyone. Lots of great sketches lately!!!:applause:

25 minutes or so. Corel PSP X

Inspired by, "The Boondocks". (cartoon on cartoon network.)

04 April 2006, 09:43 PM
I hope to color this in somewhat and update it in a little while, but this is what I have after about 54 minutes of work.

04 April 2006, 10:16 PM
OpenCanvas for sketching; Finished in ArtRage2; Stopped painting at the 58 minute mark, even though armor needs (much) more detail and shading. Title and sig added after.

This was originally entitled "Can you hear me now?", but at the last minute I refrained.

I used a Japanese woodblock print called "Catching A Demon" by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) as a reference. I pulled most of the colors from the print, as well as the style of the face. Some references from the movie The Last Samurai were also used as help for the armor.

UrbanKanoichi - great work so far... I think this is worthy of finishing up!
Wiggin - nice layout and use of color (red sun/flag tie is nice too)
DeeVad - fun character, and in only 15 minutes!
Werd - welcome! Strong pose and evocative background.
rawwad - excellent interpretation of the subject. Depth of Field effect is nice
karakterisera - Is that done in artrage? I like the ninja pose of the rightmost character
ptMAe - The sparkle effect on the outline is subtle, but adds to the piece. Very good silhoutte, it reads well.
coCoKNIght - action packed!

GauntMan- Thanks for the crit. I didn't think thisk sketch through like i should've, case in point, the flag should've been white and red. But since I sketched the samurai first, I had to use grey. Also, I used a "Ninja" sword, instead of the traditional cuved "Samurai" sword.

04 April 2006, 10:37 PM

rawwad, thats awesome

04 April 2006, 10:53 PM

04 April 2006, 02:18 AM
Great job everyone! I love the brush work and the final image of your piece, the facial expression looks really meaningful. I have yet to figure out how to do that. ;_;

Here's an update on my piece. OMG so much work... I've been painting for many hours straight (don't remember how many though) and when I look at the current piece I don't know where all of those hours have gone because it doesn't look like much, though I had originally painted a different version but hated the colors so started another one. It looks so bad right now :( I have to smooth it out and tweek the details even more. Definitely disobeying the KISS policy... I am far too perfectionist (and yet lazy..)

Sorry, I have a tendency to rant.

You know, it looks really good if you make it this size and then squint. Lol.

04 April 2006, 03:46 AM

Fridayeve: I'm like'n your style...yesterdays were great to

wow, really nice style alfonso!

04 April 2006, 08:42 PM
there are a few very good entries, considering the technique.

but only rawwad and MikeTheHunter have shown us real art. Both are the only which thought about the topic, yes many of you drawn real good samurai but they ported their samurai into our time.

the idea with demonstration forces of the police is awesome, samurai protected mighty kingdoms, and the police protects modern kingdoms, our staates...and sometimes as brutal as the samurai did :scream:

The meditating guy is also a kind of samurai, they lived in harmony with their environment and meditation was one way to get around, and still it is the best way.

so they are my favorites, and i would prefer mikes contribution, because i like the mood very much

04 April 2006, 08:56 PM
Seebaer - for really making my day. Thanks for appreciation, your words made a bit of a crappy day a good one at the end .

As for other entries - there are a few good ones, indeed. Keep it up, guys! Alfonso, Sankri, Bumskee - great style, guys :)
