04-05-2006, 01:48 PM
Roberto here: This week we will be assisting the good folks at the FXWARS forum.
We will be doing some concept art for their next challenge (RACE CAR CRASH!)
Please feel free to draw images of ANY time period, time present or future. The race cars, can be from any sport league (nascar, f1, go kart, Vulcan desert league etc) The idea is for the good folks at the FX wars forum to try to make your drawings come to life.
Imagine that you have been contacted by an FX studio to DESING race cars. They can be from ANY era, past present or future.
* You have 25, (count them 25!) minutes to do your sketch.
IF you go beyond the assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has expired, along with the FINAL drawing
Also, I will add a new voting category, called THE FASTEST DRAW
"Race Car "
We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.
These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.
PS To submit your topic ideas and suggestions go to this thread:

I made 2,
Alias sketchbook pro: 30 min
just noticed the perspective of the wheels is off... ah well... you got the idea i guess
and photoshop dont' know how long:
I made a promise to myself that I would post whatever the outcome was if I decided to participate in a dsg topic. I kinda regret that promise with this one.

My version of sweeping shapes, 25 min
04-05-2006, 07:28 PM
I couldnt bring myself to take part in todays challenge, i preferred drawing them crash:p Still, good work everyone!
04-05-2006, 07:37 PM
I'm very sorry Roberto but I've failed... This is 45 minutes. Not 25... I forgot to back up at 25 minutes and kept painting over it.
04-05-2006, 07:59 PM
Really inspiring to participate. Here my little cutie, 11 min ps
04-05-2006, 08:03 PM
Allright! Here you are: 20 minutes sharp. I used an egg timer this time :D
04-05-2006, 09:29 PM
20 minutes for a race car - I felt very tight , but it was neat to see the design choices I had to plan knowing I only had 20 min -
I decided to go with the old school race car look - I would like to spend more time and give it a modern look
jeroentje - Yeah ! I love the monster truck
04-05-2006, 10:37 PM
Here is my first sketch
(hand made picture - foto not scan)
some mouse (no tablet yet :( ) + Photoshop
hope you like it.
04-05-2006, 10:42 PM

04-05-2006, 10:49 PM
20 minutes in openCanvas err... I never draw cars o.O sorry if I hurt your eyes haha
04-05-2006, 11:42 PM
a tad over 30 mins. :X
fiddled with the background and screwd up a few times...
04-06-2006, 12:52 AM
26 mins, photoshop, bedtime!
Edit: Not very aerodynamic, is it? :D
Add on another 15 minutes:
04-06-2006, 01:23 AM
Well, I gave up on the time thing because I designed as I went, did alot of eraseing, etc.. so my paper was probably almost blank after 25 min. and I didn't time it after that. So yeah, no idea, but i did try to do it speedily. :D
Oh and it's equipped for night racing with neon lights :)
04-06-2006, 01:28 AM
Wow, you guys are fast! I didn't even get to color mine.
04-06-2006, 02:35 AM
no colour timehttp://img142.imageshack.us/img142/4128/racecar55cb.jpg
04-06-2006, 02:45 AM
These are all good ones, especially jeroentje, twistercash, mybutterflyiris, Davey, smurph. I didn't spend much time on mine, because I figured I'd just ruin it if I went on... Well 10 mins, PSCS2.
04-06-2006, 03:01 AM
Sorry this guy is pretty large but I compressed it alot. I was too lazy to throw it into PS. Spent just under 30 on it. It didn't really turn out much like I wanted the hood to. I was trying to get more of a force perspective type of feel when I imagined it. I really should draw more.
04-06-2006, 03:07 AM
here is my crappy submission.. *sigh*
04-06-2006, 03:42 AM
FUULLLL SPEEDDDD!!! once again the car no.26 leads the other to the finish line.....BROOOOOOMM!!!
04-06-2006, 04:38 AM
here's another car, more mad max than racing I suppose, the final one is about 35
04-06-2006, 05:25 AM
Totally awesome smurf. Mind if try to make a model of that?
04-06-2006, 05:35 AM

04-06-2006, 06:00 AM
Great for 25 Minutes Smurf, just great in general.
04-06-2006, 06:15 AM
I'm not very good at mechanical/architectural objects, but I thought I'd give it a shot and just make it really organic. Looked up some shiny horses and this is what I got:
30 mins (whoops - should have been 25, eh? Sorry.):
Plus about 30 mins:
04-06-2006, 06:57 AM
Painter IX 25 minutes
04-06-2006, 07:25 AM
soory i exceeded the time it took me almost an hour for the sketch' im just tooo exited to put some details http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/1909/racecar26ar.jpg
THE VOLKSWAGEN STILL RULEZZZ! HEHEHE :P
04-06-2006, 07:41 AM
JCGA: i really like your choice of colors
paperclip: actually that's very aerodynamic in shape.. if you had more time to detail it, i think it'd be awesome :)
mybutterflyiris: very expressive strokes, cool concept
smurph: awesome design!
nards26: vibrant colors :D
this is my sewer-racing hovercar thingie from yesterday's crash sketch (before it crashed).. the surface under it is supposed to be sewer water, i ran out of time lol
30mins (lol), photoshop7
04-06-2006, 08:17 AM
thanks Michele ur design are cool' its like a f-16 falcon jet customized to a car
04-06-2006, 09:36 AM
http://img115.imageshack.us/img115/2562/racecar5yn.jpg (http://imageshack.us)i forgot to time it, but i'm cheating nonetheless, it may be 30 min's.
Alias Sketchbook 2, Wacom Graphire 3. I don't know, it probably resembles it, but i couldn't take the image of a yellow Saleen SR7 off my head :)
Went over a bit, about 30 mins for the lot +scanning/ps-ing time. The times are written next to each. Design suffered from the time limit, should've done fewer drawings with a better design.
way to go people!
jeroentje, Davey, smurph - great work!
PS/wacom about 20 min...
good work everybody!
04-06-2006, 07:12 PM
I made this one for the new thread " Race Track" But I focal too much on the car and did this one.
I use 45 min as in the " Race Track " thread. So, I have no screen of what it was at 25 min. Sorry ! I'm disqualified for this day
Great work to all !
04-06-2006, 09:33 PM
Well been a while since I posted in the DSG but I've been looking for an excuse to do a car sketch. The initial sketch was done in 20 minutes in Painter but it took 120 minutes to render in Photoshop, so I guess Im a bit over.
man! thats awesome!!! - no Maya? hehe...
nice to see you around!
04-06-2006, 10:29 PM
Wow Andrewley, that's really nice!
04-07-2006, 05:53 AM
Lets Race Andrew hehehe :bounce:
04-07-2006, 09:13 AM
Andrewley; nards: any chance of a few tips on how to do that type of rendering? :)
I was going for a semi-futuristic club racer like a Cobra or Elise which, of course, were my inspirations for this drawing.
PS7/ Intuous3/ 25 minutes to 3+ hours
04-07-2006, 07:59 PM
andrewley: nice design friend :D
here is mine:
18min - pen, markers
5min - photoshop
rawwad, yours is my favorite. Great design!
andrewley : cool design & good to see you here :D
rawwad: n1 i like it :applause:
04-07-2006, 10:54 PM
rawwad > :applause:
04-10-2006, 02:35 AM
another sketch pencil only with pilothttp://img408.imageshack.us/img408/7846/racecar42ww.jpg
25 minutes, Artrage2 + photoshop to add the '24'
No time left to do the wheels, so it's a hover racecar :)
Cool cars guys, especially Rawwads.
Another 25 minutes i Artrage2 and another racecar... :)
25 minutes is shorter than you think ... and the driver is a bit too small
04-10-2006, 12:09 PM
or it's just a big car.. hehe
or it's just a big car.. hehe
Thanks for the save :D !
04-10-2006, 12:35 PM

04-14-2006, 02:20 AM
Hi, exactly 25min!, Photoshop, Wacom Cintiq
Btw, it's inspired on a bull. I'm developing the driver, the car, the track and the crash around this concept.
04-25-2006, 10:27 AM
damit....that was my cup of tea.
04-25-2006, 10:47 PM
Wow! So many had very interesting ideas, but rawwad and andrewley are my favorites.
