View Full Version : Blinck's WIP/Sketch Thread

04 April 2006, 01:25 PM
Hi there everyone.
I created this thread so that i can post here some WIP's and sketches/speed paintings, etc..
I am pretty new to digital painting so I hope you guys can give me some comments and advices :)

Right now i am trying to paint (speed paint) some animals from reference to understand their "structure", etc

Here is the first one, a bird! As i already said, i used reference!
Something like 1h30m +/-, photoshop

More to come!

Yeah! it's a good idea.
Animals are a good subject for practising ( a lot of differents materials)
On this one, I don't see the reference but my opinion is that you could intensify the joigning between the bird and the branch (with a touch of light on the branch?).
There is something strange in the perspective of the branch
And about general lighting direction, maybe I have some difficulty to see where it prioritary comes from...(i think top right?)
Hope I am not too hard on crits cause it's already good..
Keep posting!

Thank you for replying arnocob, and thank you for your critiques.
Indeed the light is a bit strange here! About the branch, i tottaly agree, the branch was the last thing i painted so it was done very fast, just to give the bird something to stand on.
Thank you very much once again.

Here is another one, 1h30m +/-, 2h max!

Used Reference too.
I will post the references later, not much time now.

Any critiques, comments or advices would be very appreciated!

These are pretty good sketches! I really like the bird. Nice feathery texture. You seem to have a good handle on digital painting already, if your still pretty new.

Hi all.
First of all, my apologies for not submitting any art. I was on vacation and didnot have much time.

Here is something i did this weekend. It is not a sketchm and it is not concept art, but it's art :P .
Both took me around 3h to complete. not posting it in the finished section since this are not really "big" works, are just for fun.
100% painted with a wacom tablet
I am getting back to speed painting soon
Sorry once again.

Hope you like these

The last one is interesting, since I'm most unclear as to what it exactly is. At first it looked kind of like a demon bursting from hell, then it sort of looked like a wizard casting some spell, and now it's mostly looking like a knight thrusting a sword into some fiery demon. Could probably interpret it a dozen different ways. Makes me wonder what you were thinking it to be.

edit: ...and you know what, now I look at your da post and see the title and just as I was hitting submit the thought of it being a phoenix totally came across my mind, since you can visualize a wingspan there, and it is fiery... but it seemed like a headless phoenix to me

TimonQ - Thank you very much for your comment :)

Here is just a little sketch about a futuristic city
Took me something like 2 hours, i don't have much experience on painting cities as you can see, so i may do some more of this stuff to practice!

Oh I really like the underwater city - but all of them are good. Pretty good birds for no reference!!

Are you more a concept artist or do you have anything more finished we can see?
