04 April 2006, 12:16 AM
a try at getting the concept working:)
will start modelling soon.
GL to every1 who's participating!
04 April 2006, 12:22 AM
Nice technical shading there ;)
What's the story behind your concept?
04 April 2006, 12:34 AM
Well the story is pretty straightforward(aparently:) )
at this time i was thinking of a epic journey from another point of view.As its pretty late ill just make it short :D.When some1 starts reading a book ,lets say with all kinds of adventures, and entertaining ,captivating things ,that person, doesnt matter if its a child or a grown up, enters the books universe and reading it he leaves the real world for an imaginary world, passes from non-fictional to fictional..profan to sacred and so on.I will be macking a boy embarcking on this epic quest, which can be seen as a journey from childhood to growing up:).
thats all going to sleep:)
04 April 2006, 05:12 PM
started working and this is what i got so far of the "environment".alot more to be detailed, will try getting something nice:).will start macking the little boy and the plant-vine that will be growing out of the book:)
04 April 2006, 05:59 PM
I like the concept a lot and I think it has the potential to be great  (http://forums.cgsociety.org/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#)
From the samples I can only imagine how the final image will turn up
Looking forward to it!!
All the best!!
04 April 2006, 07:20 PM

04 April 2006, 04:29 PM

Hei all, back from the holidays with a quick conept of my boy^^and some accesories.
05 May 2006, 10:44 AM

btw sry for the low quality..i didnt see it when i saved:S(and didnt want to render it again:) )
More updates coming v soon.
05 May 2006, 01:04 PM
Another update on the boys face(still need some tweaking at the mouth),his boots and backback, kinda raw,but adding the details as i go.
currently finishing the clothes, and working on the plant.
will post some textured and lit pics soon.
crits and comments welcome.
05 May 2006, 06:46 PM
nice modeling man.hope the textures will match it:)
looking forward to the finished img!
05 May 2006, 08:45 PM
Hey Ioan! Great work...really like the expansive feel to your scene. The details, twists, and turns of the surfaces on your character's boots are great, very organic and real. Good luck!
05 May 2006, 12:59 PM
small update on the plant, been busy finishing the boy...now trying to get best proportions for him:S
Suggestions,crits,comments are welcome:)
05 May 2006, 05:40 PM
Vady,Ocean, Thanks guys:)
05 May 2006, 07:26 PM
Hey Ioan! Really cool concept you have going here...looking forward to seeing the boy placed within the scene. Hope you have enough time to finish (and that you are going to join the next challenge when it starts so you'll be able to continue to exhibit your creative concepts)...will the vines interact with the boy in any way? Really like the effort you've made to detail everything, especially his boots and the books. Great drawing skills too. Good luck!
05 May 2006, 04:06 PM
hei again ocean!Thx for the nice comments mate,i appreciate it.
i hope ill finish it aswell:)
havent decided if the vines will interact with the kid,but probl wont(dont want to transform my img in to a clise hehe).I am almost happy with his pose and will post some updates soon:)
05 May 2006, 07:10 PM
I ve worked on the pose, wasnt very satisfyed and remade the whole thing:coat, arms, legs(which ill post soon)today(nice saturday i had:) )
So i think ill stay on this 1...the char walks along his universe with his backpack over his shoulder,admireing,thinking....
Did alot of scetching in PS to give me a better idea about the colors, atmosphere, composition.
Still thinking on what to do with the floor(what should it be..) and pilar(what textures to use)
Anyway, ill try posting more ,but kinda slow comp and i prefer modeling instead of waiting for a render hehe.
Crits,comment,suggestions are welcome!
05 May 2006, 06:59 PM
back with a quick update...for now i think im gonna stick to this pose.
Still not sure about the light.
Crits,comments,suggestions are welcome!

05 May 2006, 07:31 PM
update on the pillar.
School is macking it harder to do much atm:(
05 May 2006, 03:33 PM

Very nice updates! Almost there.
05 May 2006, 06:09 PM
MT Cup: Thanks alot for the encouregment, means alot:D cheers
05 May 2006, 06:35 AM
But only one suggestion and it's only my personal opinion. Maybe you should make those books and woods so clean, oyu should put more dust there.
05 May 2006, 09:25 AM
thx for the crit, but the final scene is going to be at night so its gonna be hard to notice dust and things on the books ,but will do some details and things with it,somewhere more noticable.
keep the crits coming!
05 May 2006, 04:07 PM
hope it turns out how u want to,and that u finish:D
05 May 2006, 02:36 PM

Great Idea and sketches, you are a grate drawer.
best regards and Good Luck
05 May 2006, 10:02 AM
hei all, back after getting my programming degree(woooot:D),eyes hurt ,so i just had some rough lighting tests.kinda decided on what it will be.couldnt let it have a nice render..would have taken to long, and i intend to finish this,so had to make it quick:)
05 May 2006, 12:45 PM
tredistudio: heia thx for stoping by,and thx for the nice words:)
GL with your image aswell, its great!
05 May 2006, 06:20 PM
Oh l like this dark moody lighting. Might be just a bit too dark, hard to tell without the character there, but I really do like it.
05 May 2006, 07:53 PM
another rough render(no gi,no postprod),just to get an better idea of whats needed.
C&C most welcome
P.S: turntable up
05 May 2006, 08:06 PM
You do need to light your character a little better. You've got a very dramatic and moody feel, but we're losing the wonderful details you have put in here. Perhaps you'd consider a small soft light from the foreground?
05 May 2006, 08:17 PM
MT Cup : heia ,first wanna thnak you for the constant support and encouregment:).cheers!
yeah i am thinking of how to make some details appear, and did some region tests with GI and most of them do show up,but i will for sure put an extra light on the char and ajust the others so he doesnt seem out of place or that its the only thing receiving light.
Keep the crits coming pls!:D
P.S: turntable up
05 May 2006, 07:28 AM
still alot to be textured, and need something to fill the back.
C&C most welcomed!
P.S turntable up
05 May 2006, 11:24 AM
You could put another bookcase in the back to close it off. Personally, the way it is currently gives the illusion of an endless corridor of shelves. I really think that's in keeping with your image, unless you want to put a very faint outline of a door with light behind it in the very distant back. I like the feel of it as is. Just a bit more tweaking of the light. I'd say you are very close to finished.
05 May 2006, 11:35 AM
MT Cup : yeah,i think im gonna keep that endless corrdor, but will put some small lights in the bookcases to give some interesting tints on the books
yes im working as im writing this ,on the light on the char(want the folds and some details to show up more).
Thanks alot for the crits!keep them coming ,they are helping me alot!cheers
05 May 2006, 01:41 PM
working at full speed to have time to render:)
did the face texture today.
05 May 2006, 01:45 PM
 Keep going!
05 May 2006, 04:22 PM
and now im on the last 50m:scream:
started rendering..now i wait:):bounce:
MT Cup :thx man for standing around my thread!(u ve been really helpfull!,both moraly and with the crits:) cheers!)
05 May 2006, 04:37 PM
Glad I could help at least a little. ;) It'll be great to see you wrap this up!
05 May 2006, 07:51 PM
hei guys, wanted to say there wont be any final pic:(
comp couldnt handle the render, max crashed twice about a quarter way,and im sure even if i try rendering again it wont finish it before the deadline:(but atleast the parts i saw were looking as i wanted and had the right feel and most fited into the scene.Im sry i couldnt get it done earlyer but RL was as always a bitch, and it was pretty hard to study for my exams(last highschool year:S) and finish this, even tho i believed i would ,till the 2 max crash. It was great participating on this journey, learned alot!Anyway ill try my luck next competition, and till then ill try working more on my texturing, rendering, lighting skills(in the holiday to come:) )
Thanks alot to the ppl that were constantly supporting me with ideas, crits, encoureging p.m's
THANKS GUYS!,sry if i ve let u down, hard for me aswell, really liked how it was turning out in the last render:(
Special thx to MT Cup,and oceanbluesky. /bow
CYA all take care:)
05 May 2006, 01:41 PM
Sorry to hear that. I was so looking forward to seeing this completed. Have you tried just rendering it in sections and then compositing in something like photoshop or gimp?
Either way, best of luck to you! I really enjoyed this scene.
05 May 2006, 06:16 PM
i did try ,but those 2 crashes took alot of valuable time, and there was none left for a other try:(
After im done with my exams,im getting a new comp, will refine my image render it out,and post it on cgtalk along with some other work:)
take care MT,i hope u will also be in the next challange:D and come up with something great!
05 May 2006, 09:37 PM
Thanks and good luck with the new computer. I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.
05 May 2006, 02:20 AM
