View Full Version : Vampire

This being done for a college class with Photoshop. I'd like some critique on proportions, and perhaps where to go from here as far as coloring goes. I'm just roughing out the color and then going in to refine it. Critiques and comments please.

I do enjoy the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver games a lot. I think it was a subconscious influence.
An update. I changed the colors around a bit to make him a bit more bluish. Still very rough.

Here is another update. I'm curious, how would I achieve a good watery hightlight, like when light is bounced of the tongue. And aren't there some tutorials for how to do hair in PS?

Another update. Got started on the pants and boots. The boots are supposed to have some chrome on them, but I'm not sure what's a good technique for painting them. Any suggestions? Also, the pants are supposed to like a shiny leather.

Here is pretty much the final product. I'm not too happy with the artifact on his chest, nor the background. Is there an easy way to make a circular object in PS with out resorting to vectors, or using Illustrator? Any tips on how to make an effective background? I'm really lacking in that area.

This looks pretty cool but I have some suggestions.
First of all: For a great hair tutorial, check this link http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=259468&highlight=hair+tutorial
Chrome is highly refelctive. So try to imagine an enviroment and paint that in. www.google.com (http://www.google.com/) is your friend :) just type "chrome" in the image search.
To make a circular object in photoshop you can for example use the elliptical marquee tool, hold in shift, then drag. Then just apply a stroke. Iīm not sure I understand what kind of circular object you want to create.
I think you should take some time and add a proper background because the filtered bg you have right now doesnīt look that good. Think about why he is doing what he is doing and where would he do this :D Im sure you will come up with something interesting. Even a rough bg will look better than the one you have now I think.
I looks like your character is falling backwards, I would probably have put the weight on his right leg (look at my attached image). Also why is the victims body in an that position, as he is dead his body should be lying flat on the floor. There are also some problems with anatomy and proportions.
-The head of the victim is very small and both of the characters should have the eyes placed in the middle of the head (again, use reference when you are not sure).
-The evil guys left arm and hand are too large and his right arm and hand is too small.
-his right leg is too short
It always helps to make atleast a stick figure first to check proportions. I also think you should add more shadows and define a lightsourse as it it very flat right now. The blood should also be a bit darker.
Hope this helps and that you donīt take it in the wrong way. Wow, this became a pretty lenghty critique :) but thatīs because I like the imge and if you see to these suggestions I think it could turn out really great!
Keep it up!

Wow fantastic! Hey thanks for the critique, seriously! I enjoy having a fresh eye look at this because I get too close to the work and miss mistakes. I'll definitely take these critiques to heart, as I know my girlfriend wants a vampire drawing similar to this, though done without CG coloring.
