Also, I will add a new voting category, called THE FASTEST DRAW

hahahahah! That's quite a topic, I don't think it's suites me, could be a challenge, isn't it? :D

03-29-2006, 03:10 PM
Ana - I agree...I HATE when I have to research a topic to be able to sketch it. But as you say, it's a challenge!

03-29-2006, 03:19 PM
AH-AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! He'll save everyone of us!

I am so in.

03-29-2006, 03:49 PM
Flash! Ahh! He's the savior of the universe!

*que corny graphics and bad acting*

LOL! I've seen the movie, and it is so bad, but it's hilarious. I may have to do a sketch for this.

03-29-2006, 04:38 PM
huh? this topic was last year too. meh, going to give it a try now.

03-29-2006, 05:20 PM
All I could think of was the Queen title song from that '80-s movie. Never read any Flash Gordon comics.

So here's my Freddy Mercury sketch in 20 minutes (from crappy ref). No time to black in the background, but maybe I prefer it this way. Looks sketchier...

03-29-2006, 05:44 PM
really no idea...

jeroentje: nice one, thats him

03-29-2006, 05:46 PM
Here's mine

03-29-2006, 05:58 PM
Aww come on. Don't any of you guys remember the Cheesey movie from 1980. Remember "Flash..ahh ah, he'll save every one of us."
It had Timothy Dalton in it also.

03-29-2006, 06:03 PM
Flash goes back a little bit further than 1980. Clicky (

Really nice sketches so far...

ok, this time I tried to paint without reference. I rember I had a poster of Ming the Emperor. I tried to remember but was not sure about the gun and face. So I added a mustache and a gun. Thatīs why it took about 26 min. Painter

Thanks to Gsmiley and Cocoknight for observations...

03-29-2006, 07:31 PM
I totally misread the time limit on this one I thought we had a nother 55min sketch! But I want to post it anyways, disqualify me! Do whatever you have to do!

I'll post one later that is within the time Limit - Promise

Love this topic

I just went ahead and posted both flash drawings. The single shot is the one i did today at work. The group is from a past post.

03-29-2006, 11:09 PM
Really nice drawings, Gary. :) I'm guessing they took more than 20 minutes?

03-29-2006, 11:19 PM
I didn't even try to meet the time limit today, because I just got this animation program that came with Paint Shop Pro 5 andI really wanted to try it out. Paintshop Pro is new to me, so expect wierd things from me as I get used to it.

GaryBedell, tha bottom one didn't take you only 25 min., did it? Nice style.

Animation Shop + Wacom + 45 min.

I TRIED to stay within the time limit this time, but I still went over - oh well.

Animation Shop + Wacom + 30 min.

EDIT: I knew something was a bit off - the speed lines are going the wrong way!!!

03-30-2006, 01:29 AM
Drone2222 , WOW!

03-30-2006, 02:01 AM
Daw: hahahahahahah
Gary: Those look great. I like your style. You should post more often. :)
Drone222: I like the second one. And I wouldn't worry about the time limit looks like alot of people went over... He can't punish everyone...:D

Whoops, 30 mins. I'm really going to have to start setting an alarm...

Photoshop. Temporarily using photobucket as my normal hosting is having issues.

Edit: oh, and I used an image from the comics as reference.

03-30-2006, 01:58 PM

25min, ps, wacom, inspired by danielh68's pic (i don't know nothin 'bout mister gordon) :)

03-30-2006, 06:28 PM
Pencil then transfer to PS, 30 mins.

Alright! I give up. This is the 1st time i heard of flash gordon. And the movie was out way before i was born. I did google about it and manage to know more about it....I would concluded it is a very difficult subject :p

The odd scimitar kind of sword which I see through a still shot from the movie sparks me to draw something different. The sword he carries make me imagine him more like a Arabic space warrior. From there, I modify his costume a little bit by adding a hood as like those sandman (<---too much influence from star wars), and changed the sword.

Below is a color sketch i did in PS for another 45 mins extra. I have made tons of anatomy mistake in the pencil sketch, and it is pointless to continue color it. Perhaps, I should rework on the pencil....

Daw :  u always the cool guy!
Danielh68 : besides I ---> , wat else i would say? All your entries make me speechless
kalorlo: Nice one, really got the comic strips feel.
Drone2222: I love the characteristic which you input for the facial animation.
GaryBedell: Love it!
Dimmur: king of pop eh! :)

03-30-2006, 11:29 PM
I remember watching the movie years ago. Also the very old black and white one on DVD. Other than that, I know very little about him.

15 minutes. Painter.

03-31-2006, 02:00 AM
Here's all I managed to get done in 20 minutes

But I spent several more hours (about 6) to come up with this.

I'm upset the resolution is so low, but one thing led to another, and before you knew it, I had a polished work, IMO.

03-31-2006, 03:54 PM
Fantastic effort, Ben!

03-31-2006, 08:08 PM
daw - HILARIOUS...and very creative!! :arteest:

Gary - WOW! great pencil work!

Chenga - really nice work. ..and I really like his "Chenga" tatoo!!

Ben - that "extra time" one is FANTASTIC!

04-01-2006, 04:31 AM
BenJohnson: Wow. really nice polished work! It really worth for the extra time which you pump-in.
robinayles: Thanks. (lets hav Gin-ale for the breakfast)
