View Full Version : Apparent bug when generating displacements along UV edges?

Hi. I did some thorough reading on zbrush central and cgtalk but have not found any mention of this particular issue:

When generating a displacement map (all options give the same result/problem, including adaptive) in either 1k, 2k or even 4k, I end up with stepped, noisy kind of phenomena around the uv edges.
The model has been properly unwrapped in Maya beforehand, but some pieces are naturally seperate from the main uv chunk - therefore I end up with bumpy lines along the seams.

Check image below to see an example ... problem persists in all resolutions and file formats, including 16bit tiff and psd ... (

Why is this happening and how can it be avoided?

I have found this to be mostly eliminated at 4k resolution. Can you post an example at that size so I can see the amount of artifacting? :)

Ryan, thanks for your reply ...

Unfortunately even at 4k the problem seems identical. I realized that it does not occur around all uv edges aswell, but somehow shows up around certain, smaller uv chunks ...

Any help?
