i know the major differences between the two and i have used smooth bind in the past to bind a complex horse character. i'm just curious which is considered to be the "best" binding method. i'm under the impression rigid binding is more popular. is that true? it seems like you can get the same results with both, just in different ways. is one faster than the other in terms of evaluation speed when one is animating the rig? thanks. :)

With smoothbind you can do rigid style binding if you please. Just wieght the verts you want rigid to 1. Overall I think smooth bind is more flexible and therefore superior to rigid bind.
