16 minutes.

03 March 2006, 06:18 PM

03 March 2006, 06:45 PM
I'm surprised no one else has had a hack at the flyng purple people eater yet :

PS + 35 min

03 March 2006, 08:42 PM
I usually associate 'purple' with mages, so here is some magic glowing purple orb.

phew, hard to post with the servers all busy with the portfolio stuff today. :D

03 March 2006, 08:53 PM
I like everyone's so far, its hard for me to get good color comps. With purple, so it was nice to see some of you guys' stuff first. I probably should have more purple in my cloud-scape, but I planned to have some foreground stuff and ran out of time. I'll think about adding to it later.

Tell me what you think, and maybe what I could add.

03 March 2006, 09:13 PM
We just dl Corel Paint Shop Pro at work, thought I'd try something in that.
about 30 min on and off (customers bothering me) pencil & Corel Paint Shop Pro

03 March 2006, 09:48 PM
Photoshop - 32 min

03 March 2006, 10:54 PM
Kinda cheating since I used reference, could be more purple - I always use the dsf to get my creativity going - I'll try and do another just from the mind later.

daw - I love it man, very cool idea

03 March 2006, 11:10 PM

There are some great entries! Especially Daw - That's great dude!!

Here's mine for this topic...

03 March 2006, 11:25 PM
GSmiley - spectacular cloud view! I like it very much. Also very subtle and successful integration of the topic at hand

daw - errr.. huaARGH! it's freaking fantastic!

phew! Had to get that off my chest.

03 March 2006, 12:36 AM
Woo, daw! Such a dramatic sketch!

Here's mine: purple dress: 35 mins. :)

03 March 2006, 12:45 AM
Okay, after my firt 35 minutes, I added some foreground to make it look a little more finished. I spent about another hour on this, so 1.5 hrs total.

Everyone's work looks great for having these time constraints.
daw - I like the simple background in yours, it makes everything look like its moving so quickly.

03 March 2006, 12:53 AM
Had time to do a second one today! I saw a matinee of Ultraviolet the other day, all I can say is I am glad I didn't pay full price. What a shame, it had such great potential. Anywho... I think that was my inspiration for this one.

GSmiley - I'm amazed man!

03 March 2006, 01:08 AM

Here's mine
PhotoshopCS2+Wacom+Brother's Hands for reference+20 mins

I went over 10 more minutes and ended up with this

03 March 2006, 02:18 AM
Not sure how long it took, kept getting interrupted, but it was around 35-40 minutes. Not great, but it's my 2'nd w/ Corel Paint Shop Pro.

In case some don't know, It's the Wal-Mart smiley, killed by a purple vampire smiley. Wanted to add bite marks or something, maybe I'll add them later.

03 March 2006, 11:57 AM
Hello everyone, this is my first post here! I just got my wacom tablet last weekend. I found this forum and thought "what a perfect way play with my new toy". This is my second attempt at making something with my tablet (my eye avitar was my first). It's kind of funny how I've worked as a graphic designer for 5 years and never had to draw anything freehand.

In any case, I think you all do fantastic work, especially concidering that there is a time constraint (Boy, does the time sure fly).

So, without further adieu:

Photoshop: 30 mins.

03 March 2006, 12:52 PM

Competing for the crappiest entry in this thread... 1 mn was all it took.

03 March 2006, 02:50 PM
always thought of purple as a color of despair and jealousy

painter, ref used

03 March 2006, 03:59 PM

Photosho 32 minutes..ahhhgg nearly there

03 March 2006, 06:04 PM
There is some very fine work in this thread; these are just some of the names that spring to mind.. Hagarun, KDW (amazing colours!), daw, GSmiley (even though I personally find the second composition a bit too crowded.. Maybe it's the blue?), Friday Eve, barbapapa (nice expression).. Really nice work everyone.

Here's my addition, took roughly 25 minutes. Paper scetch with quick photoshop colours.
I'm not sure whether the guy is helping the kid get his balloon, or he is letting it fly away? Works either way I suppose.

03 March 2006, 07:01 PM
Back to the sketch group after long time:bounce:

20 min >PS >Wacom

03 March 2006, 10:03 PM
I've read that purple is, among others, the color of yeah...meh

03 March 2006, 11:31 PM
man those timilimits sure are tough >_<

well more time wouldn't have saved this one anyway I guess. :>
OC1 :: within limit

03 March 2006, 05:18 PM
Great work again folks!

Of extra special "way kewlness" are:
daw - WOW! that is great
CarlWahl - again, excellence my friend...pure excellence!
GSmiley - outstanding...and I don't think it really needed the foreground, but I love it both ways! Great job!
Zyrinx - LOVE and cute and extremely well done!
twistercash - really love that second one - fantastic work!
KDW - an ethereal, fragile beauty to that one - OUTSTANDING!!
itsGuido - really nice attitude to him - LOVE IT!
FridayEve - I grapey and yet in B&W! Fantastic!!
hagarun - very moody - and gorgeous! Good job.
tizianoadmirer - don't knock yourself - I really like that one, Its interesting...almost looks like tons of "post-it notes" stuck in the shape of a person. Good work, man!

Thanks Robinayles! :D

03 March 2006, 12:07 AM
Springs in the air... Purple's always seemed like the color of passion, so playing on those this is where I ended up.

Photoshop CS on Cintiq, about 33 minutes. Keeping an eye on the clock keeps you on your toes! A lot of, "Welll... I guess no highlights on this one!" Good idea, though... kinda keeping the playing field a little more similar.

And, KDW, that's an amazing image!

03 March 2006, 05:37 AM
The color purple - like WOW - I think someone should make a movie about it!

03 March 2006, 06:31 AM
26 min ps

been a while!

03 March 2006, 02:30 PM
That looks so neat aaraaf. bravo

03 March 2006, 07:32 AM
Sorry for a terrible late entry! All thanks to the stupid ISP; I have been cut off from cgtalk for two days  And, because of that, I got nothing to do, thus I spent more time on this piece.
To be honest, I disqualified myself for this entry.

It is done in pencil sketch on paper and color in ps. 19 mins for pencil, and 50 mins in ps
I got the inspiration from the mixture of Memoir of Geisha cum Mermaid.

Here is the onTime piece, about 33 mins.

03 March 2006, 04:56 AM
pure fun...
(looks to me like a very distraught Little Richard)
around 30 min

03 March 2006, 05:04 AM
