View Full Version : Character: JinRoh........ (My first post of the board)

12 December 2002, 06:23 AM
Hi everyone, I am a new member, this place is great cause I really need some feedback for my model... :D

I used Maya 4.5, and this model is done by both Poly and NURBS, one good thing about 4.5 is that now u can convert NURBS to Poly, and it really save me a lot of time cause I like to use more NURBS on my model....... BTW, the wireframe is on next page :D

I spend about 2 month so far and this is my first full body character with accessary, I just start using Poly and learned a lot of technique from this piece. For rendering, I used dome light to fake GI...... thx for looking and all the feedbacks :p

Whoa! You are good! :))) Pants looks little bit odd or is it just me, but definetly it is very good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What software did you use by the way?

12 December 2002, 06:36 AM
Wow... That... looks... AMAZING and ACCURATE!
I have no c/cs for you because its not necessary.
Please post the wireframe... and texture that crazy s.o.b!

I worked on a jin-roh project just in my spare time awhile back,
but I never bothered to actually model the soldiers... The backdrop was inspired by a painting by Michael Whelan.

Have a peek.

NemesisFIN, I use Maya, Pants is a little odd to me too, I will find more reference, thx for the feedback

Very nice! I agree about the pants, and the arms too... the folds just don't look quite right to me. But everything else sure does.

12 December 2002, 07:16 AM
bored alien, the folds didn't take me too long to sculpt, but it takes a lot of time to get it correct, and still just don't look quite right to me :)

12 December 2002, 07:30 AM
Spot on. Those guys are awesome. Very nice work, now lets see textures! And guns!

12 December 2002, 04:19 PM

12 December 2002, 05:07 PM

12 December 2002, 05:10 PM

Woah! That looks amazing! Great detail!

I love the linked ammo being fed into his chest plate! Where does it come out? MG42 you say? Well this should look awsome! I can't wait!

12 December 2002, 12:38 AM
Awesome

Just one thing on the back of the pants...geez why do I always have to be the one to say things like this....make a small slightly visible crease along the ...ya know, crack. Makes it more realistic.

Great job though!

12 December 2002, 01:28 AM
dis model jus caused my jaw to drop.... fantastic!!

12 December 2002, 01:41 AM

i'll keep my eyes on yr MG42 and of course the finished textured piece!

12 December 2002, 08:43 AM

I know I can not post any more pic for one thread, so here is the link for wireframe:

Great looking model!! I think though that either his upper body is too large for his lower body or his legs need to be longer and his hips a bit wider... No other complaints though. Keep up the good work!

12 December 2002, 11:51 AM
nice model!

Are you going to academy of art also?

12 December 2002, 07:32 PM
Ali, I go to the grad school now, are u a modeler too? do u stay in the 3rd floor all the time?

oxygen_77, I place the camera a little higher, do u think it might be the camera angle problem? the proportion looks fine in front and side window... just a thought

12 December 2002, 08:29 PM
i am in the animation course.

I dont go to the third floor much , my home computer blows the lab computers away :)

Drop me a PM , lets keep in touch.

12 December 2002, 08:50 PM
I like to work at home too (can't talk about more, otherwise people would ask the source of the softwar....... :p ), anyway..... I try to go to 3rd floor more cuase u could meet other people and see their works, are u a Maya user? do u join any club in the school?

we might run into each other someday, feel free to email me at

12 December 2002, 01:52 AM
Wooooooow, Cool, man. Perfect model work. Keepost up:D

12 December 2002, 03:08 AM
Cool looking model. Although why does ammo feed to the chest? That doesn't seem to make any sense. I know its fiction, but that seems just plain wrong. Anyone else think so?

12 December 2002, 03:45 AM
all the ammo are stored in the backpack and feed to the chest, this is just for temporary, combat soldiers usually carry extra ammo, once the ammo run out, they could replace the ammo very quickly, I saw this in the movie, good question

12 December 2002, 04:18 AM
nice detail..really great model

12 December 2002, 05:32 AM
An impressive first piece!:buttrock:

12 December 2002, 07:42 AM
grandmother, what good modeling skills you have.

i loved the movie, at first i was a little skeptical, but man the ending really comes together!

12 December 2002, 12:26 PM
i really like the movie but I wish JinRoh could have more action in the movie. BTW, I just saw Patlabor 3, story is a little weak, but art direction is really great :bounce:

12 December 2002, 03:07 PM
exceptional! all it now needs is a texture and your off! im giving you 5/5 for this thread!

12 December 2002, 02:51 AM

Great work on the "Protect Gear". Did you use the Kaiyoyo figure as your primary reference?

Also, if you liked Jin-Roh, you might want to see if you can find the LDs for "Red Spectacle" and "Panzer Dogs: Kerberos".

I can't wait to see this textured. I just got my Kaiyodo figs (one to keep in the box and one to model from) so I can attempt this in Lightwave.

Have you tried making the EXTL from Pat Labor 2?

Great work.

12 December 2002, 11:17 AM

Nice work. Some time ago, I was thinking, hey why dont build this guy in 3D. But now u did the job and u did i really well!
And i like that u r paying much attention to details. :)

K, hope we see more of this guy...

12 December 2002, 09:57 PM
PotatoHead, ok give me a few days to model the MG42, been very busy laterly, for texture, I might need month...ccc... still learning

3danim8d, I used the original art work and Medicom 12" JinRoh as my references, tried to use Kaiyado figure but it is too small for me to see the detail. BTW, where can u find the LDs for "Red Spectacle" and "Panzer Dogs: Kerberos"? I really wanna see the original live action JinRoh, I heard they shot the film in Taiwan & that's where I come from. I will be very interested model some PatLabor, but i think someone already did that....

Migibutt, thx for the feedback, it makes me feel really good when people like my stuff, I will still need to a lot of of thing to keep up the good work :)

Awesome model man, i have only one crit i think Oxygen mentioned it, his lower body i think is a little out of porportion, mostly his feet but still a sweet model.

12 December 2002, 03:33 AM

Wow, the 12" Medicom figure. I wish I had that kind of spare $$ at the moment.

I wish I new where to find the LDs. I've been looking for a long time and haven't been able to find them.

I know someone in Denver who imported an LD boxed set of the movies a few years ago, but it took months for the importer to find the boxed set.

Post some more images when you get the gear textured.
