View Full Version : free rig for LW.

12 December 2002, 08:50 PM

Posting my new LW rig for you to pick apart and enjoy :)

I've been going for the least amount of bones, controllers needed without loosing any of the control.

Skinning is not perfect, but that was not what I was going for.
This is the result of me and collegues at work discussing the way we want to animate. Less controls, but at no loss of control. Less controls = less keys to worry about.

well.. Try it out.. and remember.. Try moving the chest controller aswell as rotating it.. Scale the foot controller aswell as move and rotate.. And my favourite.. Use the arm controllers from shoulder to elbow as FK, but just grab the hand and move it with IK :)

And do I really have to mention it.. Don't use the character for anything else but personal use. Commercial use it not in any way ok..

back from the christmas holliday!

Will not be a 3ds version I am afraid as I don't know that program at all.. There is a Maya version on its way though, that behaves exactly the same way!

is there anything I'm doing wrong ... settings and such, I can see the model in the modeler fine but I can't see the rig at all in the LW scene file. the nulls are huge and the head is in the stomach. anyone else run into this problem?

07 July 2003, 01:02 PM
I've opened the rig many times while reverse engineering the setup and I've never had that happen. Which version of LW are you using?

07 July 2003, 10:14 PM
I'm using LW 7.0 and this has happened to me every time I've dl something from here.

07 July 2003, 02:58 AM
I don't have any ideas why that would happen. Maybe the scene needs to be opened in 7.5. You could try to DL 7.5 from Newtek's website and open the scene in there. LW will run in demo mode if you don't have a 7.5 license. Even turning off IK doesn't do that to the scene, sorry I don't have any other ideas. You are opening "dangergirl3.lws"?

07 July 2003, 07:58 PM
yea .. I'm opening the scene file but the nulls are huge and messed up thanks though

One more idea: Do you have the follower plugin installed? Go to Layout>Plugins>Edit Plugins. In the edit-plugins panel, look under "Channel Filter" and see if the "Channel Follower" plugin is installed. If it isn't, that may be your problem.

07 July 2003, 08:04 AM
hehe ... I shrunk the nulls only to find the head in the stomach creepy like something out of total recall ... but yea the plugin is installed

07 July 2003, 05:59 AM
OK dude:

Try this:

Move the null labelled "head" on the Z axis. It is parented to a null labelled "head-null". You might need to unlock the Z axis in order to move it. You can also move Girl.main if the figure is not standing correctly.

Hopefully this will help.
