View Full Version : Character: Sunfish

12 December 2002, 06:01 PM
People, here goes another fish, also just for fun...I already did a shark and it was a lot easier. This one is a sunfish ( Mola mola ) and he has a very strange shape. I hope i got the thing right.

the pic lost some of its quality (if it had any...) because of the compression...40kbs!!!

Waiting for crits...

sorry Sheep Factory!

I knew the posting rules, but it seems they have changed. Now I know the new posting rules. It will not happen again.

hmm i got crits too .. i reeealy like the modell but u 'll never ever get that bright and direct lightning under water ! it looks as if this fish is right under a biig lamp ? make some shadows and refraction from the water on it ... yea and i think too the water needs attention too

which Software do u use ?

again very great modelling job !

How did you brake the rules??.. should it be called something else.. cause it is a character. What have you done wrong?

12 December 2002, 12:37 AM
McSpirit : I didn't saw the new rules and in the field subject of the post I entered just Sunfish and should have Character: you can't see it because it was corrected by Sheep Factory .

I agree with all u guys and it really needs some touches..I'll see what I'll do if I have the time.

Tx for the crits, people.

Yep.. very cool modelling texturing and lighting on the model.. but the water is kinda weird.. the sunfish itself is way cool .

12 December 2002, 02:46 AM
Sweet dilly yo =)

Thats an awsome sun fish, and the atmosphere in the water is great but I think the upper surface of the water might be a little bit... fuzzy, not blurred but a little hairy so to speak.

Very good work! I'm impressed, it's great to see people evolve in the craft, and I'm watching you Wazowski, allways watching... (I had to say it...)

Now I understand what their saying about the water and other details, but time is something we can't by, and this is like a radiosity render, with 95% percent of the energy renered you have a great picture, but it takes the other 5% and about twice the time to get close to perfection, it's not that it can't be done or that we don't know how, but most of the time we just have to do the best we can with the time we got!

Keep up the good work, it's getting better...

Oi Maluca! :p

Great work. Love the model. Never saw that fish. very cool. LOVE the texturing. But the water and bubbles. need a bit of work. I dont know if it is about the perspective or the lightning. But It kills the model and texturing that are so good. I would give 5 stars to modeling and texturing. 2 to final render. I dont know if u understand what I'm trying to say. but anyway. good work. :D

update to the sunfish (Mola mola) using the environment of my Black Tip Reef Shark ( ...

01 January 2003, 11:36 AM
I have an idea, why don't you put the mola fish runing away form the big bad shark???!?:bounce:

01 January 2003, 10:25 AM
okey dokey nunoalex, u have it!

01 January 2003, 12:13 PM
The sunfish (funnily called "moonfish" in Dutch) model is great!! It captures the looks of this weird beast excellently!! Textures are spot on!
The final attack render looks a bit static. I assume the shark is circling his prey? :) Can't wait to see the final attack pic! ;)

I really like your work. It's not too often you see realistic 3D fish renderings :)

01 January 2003, 12:58 PM
Skyraider3D: the sunfish here in portugal is also called moonfish...go figure.

01 January 2003, 09:44 PM
just a small composition...

01 January 2003, 10:26 PM
See? It's a MOON fish! ;)

Strange ..... but good looking ;)

Funny, I think in Danish this fish is called a klumpfisk. And one recently died when an aquarium burned down... Weird...

01 January 2004, 12:14 PM
great work:thumbsup:

Burning aquariums... hmm... weird indeed!
I'm sorry about the fish... :(
