View Full Version : CgTalk Daily Sketch 646 THE 20 MINUTE SKETCH: "Cherokee warrior"

03 March 2006, 01:56 PM
OK we are going to do AN EXPERIMENT for the next few days...

You have20, (count them 20!) minutes to do your sketch. The idea is that at the end of those 20 minutes you have to post your sketch in whatever form it is.
So bring out your sketcbook, and your watch, ill be watching you!

The idea of this exercise is to build up speed m so you may post as many DIFFERENT sketches as you want.

And by the way, to keep people in their toes, I will vary the LENGHT of time.

"Cherokee warrior"

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

Wow, 20 min. isn't long at all.

03 March 2006, 05:01 PM
That is the idea...

I promise next one will be at least twice as long.

03 March 2006, 05:13 PM
Phew 20 minutes is not long at all :bounce:
I'm not really into American native lore, so don't really know how to distinguish the tribes, so i made a generic "spaghetti western" character.
20 minutes to the dot in PS

03 March 2006, 05:16 PM
I'd prefer to use painter but I don't have that here at work so this was made in photoshop. 22 minutes on this one.. 20 min on the painting bit and another 2 for some color correction and texture overlay. I hope that's ok...

03 March 2006, 06:06 PM
That's the fastest sketch I have ever done!!! 20 mins doesn't FEEL like 20 mins does it? Phew!

Well here it is... :bounce:

I may try this series just because...but be warned: It takes me 20 minutes just to get my wacom stylus out of the pencil sharpener!

P.S. I'm joking about the pencil sharpener!

03 March 2006, 07:04 PM
Well I thought I would go for a style that was taylored for speed, so I went w/ black and white.... but I was really cutting it close at the end! Didn't count conceptual time/picture cropping time as part of the 20 mins. - that OK?

ProCreate Painter Classic + Wacom + 20 min.

03 March 2006, 07:12 PM
Pew, that was fast!

Just a portrait:

Drone2222-> That's really good. :thumbsup:

03 March 2006, 07:19 PM
Ok the references didnt exactly scream 'warrior' to me, so I just made a warrior up.

And now guys tell me why your 20 minutes last so much longer than mine. Mine usually end between 15 minutes and half an hour, so what's the trick? ;)

03 March 2006, 08:28 PM
Well, I am such a slow artist. I didn't get very far.

03 March 2006, 09:14 PM
WOW!!! 20 mins. really does go by fast. Here's my effort, 22 minutes in artrage 2. XD

Really good work everyone. Keep it up.

03 March 2006, 09:28 PM

03 March 2006, 11:54 PM
I think I will be able to participate more with these short sketches - keeping track of time really keeps me on schedule with everything else I have to get done. I hope to be more invloved with the dsg

Hey all,

Here's mine. Not too pleased. I drew it on the bus, so it was a bit tricky. (20 mins, not including the time researching proper costuming).

03 March 2006, 05:09 AM
Here is mine...

03 March 2006, 08:59 AM

This little fella really doesn't want to kill the bear....

Hey, that one is really good, Roberto!

03 March 2006, 09:32 AM
Need more time! need more time!... what? 20 minutes already?! noooooo!

After what The Ton and Digital-bobert have done - who can be a competitor?!
Anyway - here's mine.. just a head, just a head... (Photoshop 6 + mouse)

03 March 2006, 11:44 AM
Here it is, Photoshop, approx. 20 min, 2nd attempt:
It's a warrior thanking his horse before a battle he knows they most probably will die in. Yeah, it's a horse!!!:scream:

03 March 2006, 12:39 PM

Speed is not my thing. I'm lucky I got the eyes cut out of the red block, although that would have made an interesting statement.
