View Full Version : CgTalk Daily Sketch 645 THE 45 MINUTE SKETCH: "Wild West"

03 March 2006, 03:55 PM
OK we are going to do AN EXPERIMENT for the next few days...

You have 45, (count them 45!) minutes to do your sketch. The idea is that at the end of those 45 minutes you have to post your sketch in whatever form it is.
So bring out your sketcbook, and your watch, ill be watching you!

The idea of this exercise is to build up speed m so you may post as many DIFFERENT sketches as you want.

And by the way, to keep people in their toes, I will vary the LENGHT of time.

"Wild West"

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

What a great exercise! 43 minutes later...

03 March 2006, 06:47 PM
Well I have realised that i need a LOT more practise on drawing faces :hmm: , But anyways - stopped after 40 minutes as i wasn't going to be able to resuce it anyway

Well this is 45 minutes worth of work - I just wish I could have added more/cleaned it up a bit more. Ah well, that's what everybody wants. But I really love these speed threads!

ProCreate Painter Classic + Wacom + uhh, 45 min.

digital-bobert: Love the style, it's very vibrant and dynamic.

CarlWahl: Beautiful transitions between colors, nice palate for sky and water, Great job.

carlwhal: Nice sketch! I love the colors and the composition...

Here's mine.... Those green things are water guns (in case it's not clear, which I don't think it is at the moment) :)

03 March 2006, 06:10 AM
Overchord please tell me thats not Chuck Norris... hehehe... I kind of thought the same thing.... lol

Well, this didn't quite work out. The anatomy is off, hind end too big or front end too small, but since we had a time limit on this one it is what it is... a mustang out west, with a big butt... hehehehe

03 March 2006, 08:20 AM
Overchord please tell me thats not Chuck Norris...

Lol, No its not
It was supposed to be Clint Eastwood, but i screwed the face up something rotten, so after about 10 minutes I went "freestyle" on the face instead. But it does not have any resemblence at all.....

Gord! that is way cooler than western... it is western3000:scream: They look a bit like 3D meshes

mybutterflyiris - what a beautiful piece! Captures this great western feeling of wilderness and freedom perfectly and I will light a candle in a holy place when I can paint horses that good without ref, so don't be nitpicky about proportions.
