Wondering if the background is to much to handle ..If it takes away from the bug?

the first one kicks ass.
The second one is just too bright...

i like the dark background, but try and lighten the mosquito a bit (more like the second) just to give some contrast between the two

Makin it a water skeeter? with surface tension around the feet, some slimy green stuff in the water,...

Nice creature!

Man I like the bug. Is it supossed to only have 5 legs? If so is that how many legs a mosquito has, I have never looked?

I like the first image....though I will ask one thing -

Did you use a specularity map to control the difference in specular levels on the peeled paint?

Also - check out these tutorials:

looks good! the one thing to crit is that when a bug pumps its wings slowley they go slow in one direction and fast in the other...i'm just not sure if it's a quick jerk up or down with the slow motion in the other direction.

but anyway it looks great!

yeah that did look odd your saying the wings should pump like hed to tail not back to belly ??

03 March 2002, 11:27 PM
I do think they should pump back to belly...I'm just recalling bees that i've seen and the wings would move slowly down then jerk up and then slowly down's a distinctive memory i have...

i remember the thought that it was almost like they were pushing something into their bodies with their wings then grabbing more.

then again mabye bees are weird like that!

anyway the movement looked strange to me after watching a few diffenent winged insects.

The lighter image is much better. you lose the bug in the darker image. The second one looks much more realistic than the first. it all looks great though!
