Well, here is my first sketch, I am not happy with its lack of "epic proportions", but it's just the beginning.

03-02-2006, 03:37 PM
Super fun idea! Why didn't I think of it?
Anxious to see it developed and flushed!
Good luck!

Cool sketch ! The idea is nice !
Can't stand to see more !

03-02-2006, 05:10 PM
Great concept and really cool sketch! Epic enough, I'd say

03-02-2006, 10:07 PM
Hehe I like it alot. Definately my favourite so far :D I look forward to seeing your progress.

03-03-2006, 09:06 PM
Outstanding concept man, really nice idea.
Keep them coming.

03-03-2006, 09:12 PM

i like the concepts

03-03-2006, 09:24 PM
Nice sketch! I like the white rats, great work!

"...Coming this summer from Walt Disney Pictures..."
"Adventuras del Inodoro"
No se si yo tendria interes participando en esta jornada.
Nah, just kiddin'. Looks funny.

I like your thought process. Trying to show a vast background with this concept might be tough though. Maybe you could show the plumbing running off into the distance or something to that effect.
Good sketch.

Just had a thought. Maybe you could show one of the mice in an old diving suit being lowered by rope into the bowl.

03-03-2006, 10:44 PM
Haha nice idea, but I wonder where the journey ends >>!

It'll be a nice challenge to show it in epic proportions, but who knows!

Good luck!

03-04-2006, 04:23 AM
hahahaha, cool, to tell you the true one of my first ideas was making something very similar, but with a very diferent character, one that fits in the place, but i thought it would be kind of unaceptable, so i gave up, The rats are great I'd say you go ahead!

03-04-2006, 04:55 AM
Funny idea, but a little drastic ;)

03-04-2006, 05:46 AM

good luck

Poor rats, but we all know, they will come back!

hi!, I've been working on a big project, and didn't have time to work on the challenge until a week ago. It was a little rushed, but I think I made it. Here are the images: this one is the rat, as you see, it's very low poly.

well, here is the composition of the shot, based on the concept sketch, I choosed a dutch angle to give it a feel of disorientation. and put the rats in some kind of a radial composition inwards the vortex.

here is the shaded scene, used regular lights to lit the image and simulate bouncing light, no cast shadows, only the rectangular direct light on the front.

here are the passes I used:
Diffuse + Raytrace + Linghtning + Shadows
ZDepth for tweak the lightning and add Depth of Field
Spherical mapped reflections to fake detail in reflections
Ambient Occlusion
Reflective Occlusion to mask faked reflections
Faked Caustics
And Object ID for additional tweaking

I added Fur, DOF in photoshop. I did some fur test with 3DStudio's Hair and Fur, but didn't get satisfied with the quality of very thin fur. Also the render times at 640x480 were very high, now imagine at 4k!. So I decided to do it in photoshop, and I kind of like the results.

05-27-2006, 05:16 AM
Ahaha, funny idea! and good realisation, waiting to see final.

Well, At some point I seriously doubted I'll finish. I got a lot of work and had very little time to work on the project, but at the end it was possible!.

This image was conceived to be in a Challenge where lots of people of different cultures will see it, so I decided to put elements that most people could know, like the rats and the toilet. That will remove any cultural barrier when getting the message. The next important thing was to achieve the idea in an interesting way. I decided to do it using something funny, when it's time to communicate something massively, fun is always good. I am satisfied with the results, because I think the image represents very good the spirit of the Challenge, it's clear and "globalized". Well, I'm very nervous, let's see what happens

05-27-2006, 05:41 AM
!Jajaja really funny...i can't belive that i miss this one....good job!:scream:

05-27-2006, 06:49 AM
great final ,

05-27-2006, 01:22 PM
I haven't seen this one in a long time. I'm glad to see that you were able to finish it. The modeling and texturing is very good, especially the water in the toilet bowl ( I wish mine were as sparkling clean....).

05-27-2006, 02:47 PM
Cha cha great idea and realisation. I relly like it :scream: ... And the water looks very beautiful, so are the rats actually, congratulations ! :)

Ha! Tremendous concept and final entry. Reading your challenge thread, I've found a new way to render water (rather than relying on some cheesy plugins). Thanks for this thread and congratulations on a professional looking scene.

Hopefully the judges are able to reach the rats in the plumbing to give them their treat. :applause: :bounce: :buttrock:

05-30-2006, 12:47 AM
I really like this idea, it is completely different from the other entries i have seen so far : it may not be an epic journey for a human, but let me tell you that for a rat, it is!. Technically it is the most interesting among the other entries mainly because of the great and elaborated compositing job. This image demostrates you dont have the end up with an over saturated image to achive a very interesting result.

Good job!!

05-30-2006, 11:24 AM
The poor small mice... :-(

06-13-2006, 10:29 PM
