Here is my idea for the Jouney.

Is a Cockroach in a ballon made of junk, leaving his old home, looking for new horizons :)

03-03-2006, 08:13 PM
lol........ this is just sooooooooooooooo nice. good work on the concept. there is only one thing that bothers me at the moment in the concept sketch and that is the way the string is tied to the ballon. maybe just have a little more thought on that................

all the best.............

03-03-2006, 08:39 PM
great job man !!!

- se você conseguir botar no 3D o que está no papel, vai ser das melhorer !

Hi Jr! how are you ! nice to see you again ! good concept so far! but I like the depth of concept from your spectacular ! I know you have something to show! wait for more man!

03-04-2006, 02:15 PM
Hey Jr ! It is a great idea ! It is going to be great :) But as said before, i would come up with some new ideas to tie better this baloon, the strings are kind of funny here.

Cya !

03-04-2006, 02:23 PM
I like the sketches, I'll be watching.

03-04-2006, 10:08 PM
Thank you guys

carlsden, thanks man. Yeah I already thinking in another way to hold the balloon

dcmoutinho, valeu

ldgree, thanks for the ideas  . I waiting for your progress in contest too .. hehe

Diogo Faim, thanks

monsitj, Hi man, Thanks for visit my topic :bounce: . Yeah in reallity I always like more deep and complex ideas, but in this contest maybe I do something more simple ... Anyway I made another concept, with a poetic and surreal scene ... but I´m afraid that could result in a poor composition ...

Storytelling Tree, Hi Forni, thanks for the suggestion. Surelly I´ll change this :)

3D_Explorer, thanks.

Hi JR. good see you here too. Good luck for u  .

03-04-2006, 11:57 PM
Hey Joao,

Nice to see you in this challenge . I like the cockroach leaving home idea better I think , it has more room to add things. Maybe have an bug exterminator guy in the background. Good luck and enjoy the challenge.

03-05-2006, 12:59 AM
I vote for the second one! And good luck to you! I'll be watching too.

03-05-2006, 03:54 AM
Hello Jr. Braz .... Nice Sketchs ... but i like more the first one ...

.... acho que nunca comentei nada do que você fizeste , mas conheço este trabalho do seu avatar e mais um sobre " Sonhos " ... bem legais por sinal ....

... bom ter gente conhecida por aqui ...

Abraços !!!

03-05-2006, 06:25 AM
okay..nice start..i will be watching you ,more power to you:thumbsup:

03-05-2006, 12:02 PM
Hey Jr., well i guess that this decision is up to you, but here is what i think. The first idea is a funny and popular idea, "popular idea"? yeah, it is an art that will bring more popularity, people prefer seen the first idea them the second idea, because the second idea is more personal, it is the artist vision and it is a poetical language, not everybody likes this kind of art, but it is a good one to.

The first one gives more room to crits, sugestions. The second one has more artistic range and maybe it will make it difficult to crit or sugest anything.

Well, choose wisely :) Because it will take some time !! :D

03-05-2006, 12:19 PM
Those are some great ideas. The second one looks more interesting, though. Gives a feeling of an epic journey better than the first one. :)

03-05-2006, 07:48 PM
I like the first idea, as it' s funny(great sketch!), but I guess the second is more moving and emotional.
I'd go for the cockroach!

03-06-2006, 01:26 PM
Hi, man!

Nice to see you again in a challenge.

My vote goes for the first sketch. It is funny, very original, with lots of possibilities, and definetly the beginning of an epic journey from the point of view of the bug! In fact, I like your character already...

03-07-2006, 01:14 PM
first sketch is better!

aae braz! passando aqui pra te desejar boa sorte cara!

Thanks everybody. All you really help me to decide. So I choose the cockroach idea :D

And here is the firsts steps

And here is a non textured render

03-07-2006, 09:53 PM
hi mann.. mto bom cara.. bem carismatico o personagem..

parabens.. boa sorte.. abraço!

03-08-2006, 03:04 AM
nice , very nice man ! can't comment anything!

03-08-2006, 12:33 PM
Haha, nice modell! Great concept, I like the balloon! The cockroach's legs looks a bit strange in the ends...more like octopus or something, to soft...A cockroach's legs are really hard...Maybe that would make it easier to see what it is:)
Keep it up, great work!

03-09-2006, 06:24 AM
That is so cool. I really like it.

Hi Guys,

Here is a render now with textures :)

I change the head, to detach the eyes, that I think is more important

03-09-2006, 11:09 PM
eeuheuheuh nice man.. curti o copo de danone !
uehuehe best luck.. cya!

03-09-2006, 11:12 PM

03-09-2006, 11:17 PM
hahaha, the "danone" basket is great
you're doing a very good job, though I agree with jonason, the legs look a bit strange...
good luck!

03-10-2006, 12:09 AM
It looks like I am a bit late here :)

You're allmost done :bounce:

Very nice cockroach! I suggest you to make a cartoon later with it
Let's see how it will look alltogether at the end... I'm really impressed!

BTW, I'd leave the legs the way they are
Maybe a realistic cockroach wouldn't be in place here :)
Why not leave some fantasy?

03-10-2006, 12:29 AM
Looks nice.

03-10-2006, 11:20 PM
Nice man, it's different!

03-12-2006, 01:45 PM

Here is a update.

Still missing a lot of details in the background!

04-11-2006, 10:27 PM
Newspaper graphics on balloon is brilliant touch!
Can´t really figure out your light time. Is it day? Or night? ´cause I have some doubts about that black right corner. Kitchen looks good but as well too dark compare to sunny light feel on window. Just my 2cents. Keep up great work :bounce:

04-12-2006, 07:58 AM
Wow. it has become very realistic since my last visit. Really interssant concept. Looks like a shot from a movie.

04-12-2006, 08:05 AM
Eh eh eh... very nice... good idea...

04-12-2006, 08:41 AM
nice and very dinamic shot, i like it, especially the baloon :)... I'm wondering if you intend to put something on that wall? dunno... windows or balcony? or smth surprising?

04-18-2006, 12:08 AM
Very funny :) idea is super!

04-18-2006, 01:09 AM
Wow, you're quick, I hadn't checked your entry for couple of weeks only and here you are . Congrats, it's looking really really awesome!

It's comming out very good, a nice concept.
Good luck.

04-20-2006, 10:15 PM
Ha ha, guess you and I must have crossed in some parallel universe when you had this idea, it reminds me of my very first sketch.. Only my ants saw the opportunity and yours seems to have taken, not only the opportunity but, all the sweety goodness from the fridge! :applause: Great job and nice to see someone with a similar sense of humour! :p

04-21-2006, 12:26 PM
Joao, this is so nice idea, it is weired i didn't see your thread before, the models and textures and lighting all looks awsome, keep it up this will be great.

04-22-2006, 09:02 PM

Joao.. hello! Very nice image man, I really like the overall mood, and its very funny too, looks like the journey for this character is going to be full of funny stories, and wherever he goes is definetly going to be an interesting journey, I like how you got this done even whitout showing where he is projected to go... very nice.. PARABEM CARA..

Good luck man...!

04-23-2006, 03:20 AM
Looks like fun, wish I was 3 inches tall. The cherrys at the window seem a little out of place

05-15-2006, 02:30 PM
Hi Joao :D

This is wonderfull

The light and the textures are just right
And I specially like that your window (the whole picture) is a bit inclined, that gives it a different mood, just like from point of view of a small creature

05-15-2006, 03:44 PM
I have been watching this. Glad to see it coming together so nicely.Love the idea of newspaper strips to stripe the hot air balloon.
All the best.

my apocalyptical journey:

05-15-2006, 03:58 PM
Newspaper graphics on balloon is brilliant touch!
Can´t really figure out your light time. Is it day? Or night? ´cause I have some doubts about that black right corner. Kitchen looks good but as well too dark compare to sunny light feel on window. Just my 2cents. Keep up great work :bounce:

I agree with Oweron on that - light is a bit confusing.

05-15-2006, 05:43 PM
Hey Joao,

Your idea is coming along great since I last saw it.  You have original and stylistic images. With the dark light on the bottom right corner, maybe you could make it the shadow of a tree or something which would be less confusing as to wether it is day or night.
Good luck finishing up.

05-24-2006, 04:04 PM

Sorry for the big delay, but I not give up :)

I´m finishing today all textures of the background, and soon I´ll post the update.

About the lights, I just want to show inside the house, like a cold and sad place, not a good place to stay ... and outside more warm and positive local, in other words, outside represent the future, a hopefull future with a lot of new adventures .. :p

Hi guys,

Here is a TEST of the final version .. still missing some details, like the texture of the window ... I will try to finalize all the textures and the render today :)

05-25-2006, 03:54 AM

05-25-2006, 06:45 AM

Hey that's fun ! Makes me think of my picture with an insect and a montgolfiere !
A cool picture with a good rendering and the story is really easy to understand !
I think there's a bit of awkwardness (?) in the maps inside the kitchen with too much bump on the table and the chair for exemple, and a wallpaper with huge flowers that reminds me my grandmother's. Maybe a bit of DOF could correct that, but be carefull to keep the refrigerator visible ! Good choice of colors too ! Good luck

Here is the final version.

In the end of 60´s, a great challenge will begin. A big race in 80 days, around the world.
Bugleas Fogg, accept the challenge, and as soon he catch some provisions and construct his junk balloon, he is ready. Ready for the Jouney that Begins.

very well done!!

05-28-2006, 01:11 AM

This is more of the type of image I wished I'd aimed for. Terrific composition, modeling and color harmony. Your use of text in the scene is also well designed and understated. Really adds to the storytelling. Extremely dynamic work. I must read your Challenge page and hopefully pick up some advice. Congratulations on the scene, and may your bug navigate to the top of a judge's head.
