Hello and good luck everyone!

i'm still trying to find a good idea for story and composition..
i was thinking about a large aircraft migration, with a main character taking off to begin his journey (or maybe escaping from something like war)
but i still cant find the element to make everything special, to give a strong and clear feeling to the reader..

well, more infos and maybe some sketches coming soon
stay tuned! :D

These are the very first ideas that came to my mind:
a young boy with his small airplane who joins a great formation. They're escaping from their home city, escaping from war, with an unknown destination (so I put the camera in front of them).
I like everithing of this concept, except that it's more about escape than about an epic journey
I did also a small sketch of the airplane, it fits this composition very well, with the pilot arms in the same position of the wings (or the opposite? :D)

This is always the same idea, with some little improvements..
I decided to draw the scene just before the takeoff, when our little boy is watching his love for the last time before the journey. It's sad scene, and I like it :) it has more emotions..
by the way I still have to adjust the story a little (for example, why is the girl keeping an old book close to her heart? I still don't know, but it's so romantic :P )
talking about composition, i decidet to put the camera towards the path, to give a sense of a long journey, but i dont like it very much, i feel like it's unbalanced.

03 March 2006, 11:16 AM (

(i had problems with my scanner so i'm posting everithing now)

Another composition test..
In this composition i like the sense of depth, with the canyon of skycrapers and the desert far away..but also i feel that more can be done to improve it (i want to try to take the best things from the last two images and put them together)

I did also a color test (oh well..the green light on the left is ugly, i know)

Comments, critics and suggestions are welcome! :)

hey, i like your last composition -cant wait to see it finished.:)

Great work, I think you are getting more and more near your goal. That last sketch is very good. Keep it up.

The latest concept works pretty well for me, and the idea is good. I even like the green statue ;) Keep it up. More constructive critiques on your next update my friend.

ps.: I like your airplane designs, maybe you could help me design my rocket ? ;)

Thanks for the comments..
oh..well, xillion..that is not a statue :D she's a girl! :p

more sketches coming soon!

03 March 2006, 12:11 PM
great stuffi'm guessin the confusion comes from the statue of liberty greeness of the girl hehe.

03 March 2006, 11:06 AM (

these are some other airplane concepts..
I like the first one, i'm pretty sure i'll use this one for the final image.
I tried also other compositions, but without success :P
next step will be the pencil lineart
Stay tuned!

Very nice concept man! I like more the "high wing" one (numeber one) as it fits nicely with the original composition.

03 March 2006, 06:57 PM (

As promised, i began with the lineart ;D
I also changed some small things in composition:
the girl is now closer to the camera and there are other small airplanes taking off (i think is more dynamic in this way)

oh! the book the girl is keepig is a photo book :) I want to put some pictures flying away in the wind, but i dont know where to put 'em :\

I began detailing the palace on the left, it's one of the most "dense" areas of the image (the other one is the airplane with the boy).
I use pencil and a ball pen to make some lines stronger :)

ps: Sorry for the quality of the "scan"..i used my digital camera 'cause my scanner is dead :\ (and also is boring to scan an A3 paper with an A4 scanner :P)

03 March 2006, 07:09 PM
Hi, I like your concept. Your line art promises a lot, the quality of the details on the building are amazing. Keep it up. Buona fortuna!

03 March 2006, 09:58 PM
thanks! :D
it's just me or the right side of the building seems longer than the right side?
*sigh* ...after all those details

03 March 2006, 09:41 PM (

Hi all!
new lineart update, I finished the buildings on the background...I'm pretty happy how they came out :D
A whole bunch of rusty metal :P I think that the difficult task is to give the feel of abandoned buildings: all lights off, no smoke coming out of chimneys, a lot of dust everywhere and stuff like that..
I also begun detailing the airplane but i got tired and I left a lot of errors :P

sorry again for the poor quality of the picture, the perspective seems off because of a strong eye-fish effect, sorry!

05 May 2006, 08:40 PM (

Hello! few comments since now :(
never mind, i'll continue! :D

I finished the pencil lineart, scanned everything, and just begun the color phase..
this should be the final mood, I'm quite happy with this
now it's time to detail, detail to death :P

nice! love the architecture...referenced? like the lighting scheme too. sunrise launch. in many ways you and i are painting the same picture.

keep on.

Hi Pala, I lke the story and the perspective on the buildings is great. Nice work.

Just a few comments... That runway is pretty short. How about adding a launching mechaism to shoot the plane off the building?

If you just have only the one plane in the pic it'll make the journey more lonely and daunting for the boy. I like the girl but I'd like to see more of her face and the emotion/sadness she is feeling.

Hope this helps.

Bello! Mi piace come le posture dei personaggi rendano la storia interessante ed evocativa.
I cant wait to see more pics.

Good luck

The elements of your composition are very harmonic. I am quite sure it will become a picture of great impact ^^ Please, continue painting it. I am curious to see it finished.

wow i loved colors and composition, architechture is great also and a wonderful depth within the picture

but i have a suggestion if you dont mind:
when i first looked at your picture i thought there was only one figure going to the plane and it seemed better than i realized that there was another figure.

i think using only figure looking to the plane up from the stairs gives the feeling of journey enough and in a more heroic way. makes you think: now she is going to take the plane and face whatever whatever stands in front of her and survive. other way it seems more ordinary to me.

good luck

I really like how it looks, specially the design and pencil line. Great style.
Maybe some comments from individium and EdP-Art can help you. I think the image have more elements in the left side (or just bigger elements like the building and the women) and maybe don't looks with balance.
Keep going!
