03 March 2006, 03:20 AM
come to pay my respects Sacha :) Have a fun journey.

03 March 2006, 03:39 AM
Just beautiful light and layout and metallics in that picture, Sacha! ('though it looks more like the middle of a Journey and not the start.) But hey, keep the concepts coming! :)

03 March 2006, 05:48 AM
I think I would zoom out a bit. Seems a bit crowded visually and compositionally.
Like to see more atmosphere and environment.

03 March 2006, 06:56 AM
great start, like always , dude

03 March 2006, 07:03 AM
Wow, excellent sketch/concept..
Some lovely ladies in there I hope.. (I know)
I know it's very earlie in this challenge but can't to see some more :D

03 March 2006, 04:45 PM
I really like the thing on the ground...I'm not sure what it is but it looks cool, keep it!
Tell us more about the background,, possibly show us what's going on with the journey and where they're going and suchlike.

Great anatomy on your woman, as always. :)

More sketches...please...

03 March 2006, 05:18 PM
Ah there you go, great start dude! keep em coming bro!!!

03 March 2006, 05:28 PM
hey, cool sketch
nice to see you again ,
hope this time u can complete the challenge
best luck to u dude

03 March 2006, 05:37 PM (

Played around with the composition, since the scene didnt have enough things in it to be descibing the scenary, i went for what i love most, a coverart/cinema poster-type of composition to show a bit of the whole story, as well as having the possebilety to play my strenght, painting faces. so here's the sketch, still very rough, i'll keep working on it for a while still, but it shows well the direction i am heading into now.
Hope you like the sketch so far, let me know what u think :)

03 March 2006, 05:44 PM
thanks all for the great attention to my first approach. Yeah, i hope too i can finnish this time, but i feel way more comfortable with the topic since i can twist it into what i love most, doin classic fantasy stuff.
I wanted to take care it doesnt end up being a "you must rally the horde and..." "aw snap why they always pick the fat green ones to send em on a shitty journey...." type a piece too much so the crystal mainly builds the center.
The 4 heros are the fun part, the paladin, the sorceress, the dwarf and elvish archer ar all characters i love to paint, so this will be lots of fun.

someone earlier mentioned Adriana Lima... well all i can say, of course i like her look, most men do :) but i wouldnt say i have a specific woman i paint, i just paint straight ahead and the type of girl comes out with the feelings i get while painting.

now i wish everyone an inspired and great evening, I'll be back here later but now back off to squeeze my wacom :) keep on rockin' mates and rock it ruff :buttrock:

03 March 2006, 05:53 PM
yes.. since it is a compotition i would say stick with what you are comfortable off... but isnt that the smae girl from your master and servant thread son?

i am not too keen on teh composition at the moment.... i actuall love the very bottom of the image with the whole group walking out... it is excellent... but rest seems to pile in on it.. mayeb make that the focal point and the heads a bit smaller.. anyways exceited about seeing you progress. really love your work

03 March 2006, 06:01 PM
Oooh, i spotted some of your kitties, hehehe. Okay, i'll bite. I am a big fan of your movie posters, so cant see anything wrong with that :D Plus you have a good scene going down there that looks like its showing them leaving for a journey. for this sketch

Man, between you and Nebz, i feel like i'm slow and have to catch up, HAHAHA.
will try and do that tonight

Let see some magic crazy bro :buttrock:

03 March 2006, 08:51 PM
veerrry fantasy! I like it a lot ;) Good luck Sasha!

03 March 2006, 09:57 PM
Looking good so far Sacha! Do you know the work of DREW STRUZAN? He did many of the classic movie posters, like Star Wars. Have a look at some of his stuff online and see how he positions characters for emphasis. Sorry if you know his stuff already! :)

03 March 2006, 02:09 AM
tonsa thanks Aly :) knew him but old me and names, i love his works and now i shall remember his name at least ctrl&d helped a lot :)

W!L Will relook the composition then :) and the sorc as ruogh as she is, shall get a massive work out next post

Xilion: fantasy..? yep thats what i love painting most :)

Archie: hiya, burst your nitros then fire it up bro!

03 March 2006, 02:24 AM
I am loving your concepts. You have such a vivid imagination and your art is always so full of life. I will enjoy your "journey" with this one :)

03 March 2006, 03:15 AM
What no PINKY??? :p Looking good so far, I'll wait with my comments till you flesh it out a little more :D

So far nice closed compo....

03 March 2006, 03:17 AM
Welcome back I always like the work you do. Good luck

03 March 2006, 03:46 AM

03 March 2006, 03:52 AM
hey this kind of looks like master servant entry :P keep it up man good work.

03 March 2006, 04:17 AM
Killer concept, I'm looking forward to this.

03 March 2006, 04:34 AM
I really enjoyed your second concept however i think it appears to be more of a movie poster then someone or someones about to depart on an epic journy.
In my own personal opinion i think the first concept sketch of the two is your better one.

But hey its all up to the artist. I loved your other challenge works so i will be sure to keep a watchfull eye on this thread.

Good luck

03 March 2006, 06:42 AM
Hello there Buddy! nice to see u around, cool sketch, I 'll bring my chair to watch your thread!

03 March 2006, 07:24 AM
Nice work sir! Pray continue! :D

03 March 2006, 08:50 AM
aahh...those eyes...that nose ... that mouth ..mhhhm nice the girl is back hooraay :D

the poster style is cool. i just vote that you ditch the classic human-dwarf-girl party and make an all-girl-party ! :bounce:

03 March 2006, 09:34 AM
i love the movie poster composition, givs you a real feel for all of teh characters on the image. i especially like the design of teh dwarf so far!

03 March 2006, 09:59 AM
i love the movie poster composition, givs you a real feel for all of teh characters on the image. i especially like the design of teh dwarf so far!
thats true... the dwarf looks neat! I like the girl a lot too! the idea of the movie poster composition is very useful, since you can give a lot more information about the whole plot in a single image... congrats man! nice work!

03 March 2006, 04:46 PM
HaHa! Fantastic, your typical great style attack again! :D Good luck my friend, I look foward to see another great work

03 March 2006, 04:50 PM (

went for a more "babe" typa a sorc now to completely get away from my master and servant, slighly snooty, cocky ans a bit more perky, i so far liked the actual look of my new sorc, so i thought i'd post a screenshot of what i'm painting at the moment :)

03 March 2006, 05:03 PM
Looking good!

03 March 2006, 05:03 PM
slav: took u py word and painted a better sorc :p

Slickgreekgeo: thanks a lot mate :)

Kahlan: well the poster layout allows me to spotlight the characters much better, ech personality gets the attention it deserves that way, at least its much fun for me to paint that way :)

Climax: great to have u here too bro, lets rock it all the way :)

Erilaz: thanks mate

enialadam: thanks a lot :)

Vahn: jup button nose cateye kissingfriendly mouth, thats my sorc :p
and noooooooo, no pure babes piece, i'd never got away from the burden "that all he can make are babes" that way. lol.

StoryForge & LIOI: thanks a lot mates. Yeah all characters are very fun for me to create, the dwarf as well as the blessed worrior, the pally, as well as the elvish archer, and of course, the sorceress, and all the tyny characters i planed for the framing scenes, the dragon, the army of evil, its the greatest fun for me to create a world in one piece, and so far a nice and rich journey of developing i much enjoy :)

Rawad: yay my crazy bro and supernuts photoshoprocker is back here too! glad to be on this journey with u :)

best of luck to you all and thanks for your comments and helpfull sugestions. keep on rrrrocking!

03 March 2006, 05:29 PM
it's so funny how you only know that one babe face, but
it never matters cause u paint it so cool

03 March 2006, 05:31 PM
Nice chick! Similar to last challenge's gladiators... Maybe there's a weird obsession for an unknown chick... maybe another life's girl? :D

03 March 2006, 05:40 PM
What a fantastic face!! I have to look back through your thread and see what the whole scene is......

03 March 2006, 07:24 PM
Yeah crazy bro. Its looking good. i like that you're giving her more attitude. It definately shows a good sense of character. Cant wait to see the details of her outfit.
Hey, just a thought, how about giving her a nice esoteric tattoo... i dont know, just thinking out loud here :argh:

03 March 2006, 07:43 PM
Looking really nice :)
This shall be intresting

03 March 2006, 07:46 PM
Nice face and a good beginning on the coloring phase

03 March 2006, 08:25 PM
Vahn: jup button nose cateye kissingfriendly mouth, thats my sorc :p

03 March 2006, 09:42 PM
your pics have the same problem than Aly Fell (Poshspice) - your characters look good but I have the feeling I have seen them before....... :D

anyway that's a very well drawn face. I can't wait to see what's happening in your pic

03 March 2006, 12:11 AM

03 March 2006, 03:18 PM
Stunning Sacha  Those lips are...just fabulous! Loving it :D

03 March 2006, 06:50 PM
Wow Sacha, you seem to have some brilliant ideas yet! :scream: I think presenting your concept as a kinda movieposter is highly original: everybody else seems to avoid that kind of 'articifial compositions', but that might also be the reason that you jump out of 'the crowd'.

Your 'babe' is really freakin' awesome (again!)! You seem to get it done every time again: a very sexy and attractive, but still realistic babe! :D

Have fun & find luck! :)

03 March 2006, 07:41 AM
hey Sacha....awesome update as usual.i love ur character.the latest portrait is really nice feeling.u rock mate:buttrock: :applause: :buttrock:

03 March 2006, 10:05 PM
Mmmm, lips. Great start, good luck

03 March 2006, 09:59 AM
your pics have the same problem than Aly Fell (Poshspice) - your characters look good but I have the feeling I have seen them before....... :D

They look like you have seen them before because Sacha has such a destinct and unique style, and I love it.

Was meaning to post sooner Sacha, didn't really follow anyones work in 'Spectacular' but I remember from M&S your one to watch out for. All the best once again ;)

03 March 2006, 11:54 AM

your girls are as always wonderful to look at... :scream:

good luck !!

03 March 2006, 11:58 AM
your pics have the same problem than Aly Fell (Poshspice) - your characters look good but I have the feeling I have seen them before....... :D

03 March 2006, 01:31 PM
you draw amazing women : ) its looking great - massive luck dude.
just curious , do you use a model ?

03 March 2006, 08:29 PM
your pics have the same problem than Aly Fell (Poshspice) - your characters look good but I have the feeling I have seen them before....... :D

I thought my ears were burning... hmmm... all my characters look the same huh! Oh dear! Well, when I draw for myself maybe there is some similarity, but strictly speaking, I don't think they do. If I do something to a brief, I follow the brief. My personal work is mine so I'll draw what I like. I daresay Sacha does the same thing. It's individual styling. Sorry to hijack your thread Sacha :)

03 March 2006, 08:55 PM
Fight Fight Fight!

03 March 2006, 10:25 PM
No fight u nuts ...not here..take it to the arena... :arteest: ( i hate this reminds of someone in this forum....he used it in every sentence.. :D )

03 March 2006, 09:13 PM
very nicely drawn face, which is always challenging for me.

03 March 2006, 08:31 AM
Well a good to see you back in the challenge. Hope the crash was just a minor setback. Well you have one advantage now....fresh xp runs faster :D

03 March 2006, 03:10 AM
actually working on the faces themself, hile my pc was forcing me into sketching on paper, i so far had the time to sketch the characters details a bit more precise, so they slowly apear on my canvas and hapiness returns :) paladin elf and dwarf slightly flesh into the scene and the darklord, on the back of his beast, commanding the army of darkness has his first apearance.
here we go :)

03 March 2006, 03:11 AM
Nice painting dude! This almost is reminant of a book illustration!

03 March 2006, 04:58 AM (

like this wip:s, and I learning a lot to see your image progress... how to handle shadow/light, and use of opacaity... thanks:bowdown:

do I look like a big "fan-girl" now... :p

03 March 2006, 07:05 AM
Excellent stuff again Sacha ! THis character is really expressive ! Nice !

03 March 2006, 12:50 PM
those are some ugly heroes and heroines.. but nice painting .. keep it coming mate

03 March 2006, 04:27 PM
your pics have the same problem than Aly Fell (Poshspice) - your characters look good but I have the feeling I have seen them before.......

anyway that's a very well drawn face. I can't wait to see what's happening in your pic Ranath, wapy:

.. hehe, i explained it to mosco before and Aly Ssaid it all. its a fun piece and so i paint things freely and just for fun, the way i like em including girls.

Tilite, Noob, Aly: thanks, u got the point :p

Sypherr: no in the next 2 weeks, lots of things to catch up with

anostudio, Elsie, xric, kmesty, Mike, Benita, Simon: thankees mates :)

Dutchman: thanks a lot, this is part of what i loved since my childhood, and u see it all over in the industry, imagine t was a game, a book cover, a poster, there's no better way to tell a whole story into 1 single pece than a posterlayout

Toni: dw not much done here, but the journey goes on

Neubuis: Depends on the job, if so, its a specific person. if not, i use refs sometimes for parts i'm unsure with when rendering materials. usually i work free and see wher my pen leads me. thats where my tonsa flaws and mistakes come from

Dimi: :arteest: pwahahaha. nuts royale. glad to have u here too

Slav: lol, i wish. in the other hand, its not a good idea to upset a sorceress, you don't wanna endup as a frog

Poor sacha must of been drawing girls day in and day out?
is there a job where i can do that? lol

Sloth, Juniorlucky: thanks mates

Mona: lol coochy coochy, purrrrrrrr nah, i do that while painting usually ;)

Toni, Walrus, Jason: jup, glad about it, its so far doing what i hoped to, it lets me work

kevin: thanks mate. faces are for me what is most fun, so happy u that your fun starts where my challanging part begins

3draven: yes and more important: stabile

Beelow: yeah sort of supposed to be that kinda piece, its something i love to do.

Shake: hehe thanks, he's still rough but i paint on all 4 faces, so still a bit to go and yeah, this time i have enough time to have an equal level of details i hope

Mona: thankees, welcome to the club i'm a "fan-boy" too and its a rich playfied here, so much to discover so much to enjoy... errr so little time... sigh

Gilles: Thanks mate

W!LLie: arrr grrr lol come here, if i find time hahahaha glad u dont like em bit less thna 75 days and we can make this official i'll meet u next avatar war or in a little battle after this... erm, if i find time

03 March 2006, 04:37 PM
ha... just read what i wrote.. sounds harsher than i ment it son... i really like you caracters and they got kick ass personality... i love the girls face.. looks like she is hard as nails. they just not attractive in my eyes... but that dont have naythign to do with anything. just an observation.. keep it coming

03 March 2006, 05:18 PM
great progressing man! love the way ur character r beeing painted, u defenitely have very unique style known all around the CGtalk coz when I saw the little thumb in the forum I didnt need to look the name to know whos thread is that :) I must say that I found the colors a bit too brightned, maybe coz u probably started painting on a white canvas.. but nevermind that, just my 2 cents. keep up the great work!

03 March 2006, 06:59 PM
i found the first pally i painted not rough enough, so in my offlinetime i done a few quick sketches and here goes my new pally, bigger, a bit tuffer, tell me what u think...

03 March 2006, 07:15 PM
gr8 character design and colouring doode ! keep it this way !

Good luck ! i'll keep an eye on ya ! :D

03 March 2006, 07:19 PM
Oooo awsome work! I really like the composition

03 March 2006, 07:21 PM
lol coochy coochy, purrrrrrrr nah, i do that while painting usually ;)

haha... :p and this new one looks bad.. I mean evil... or I mean... continue with this evil one´s face. goes well the her expression.. she would like a nasty warrior, not a handsome... I think...
or? hmmm yup, I`m done thinking... she would chosen the latest... :bounce:

03 March 2006, 08:49 PM
well yeah way more better but just one crit his eyes makes him look innocent I think he will look better if his look was alittle sharper

03 March 2006, 08:58 PM
Great working friend, characters looks great  I must say that I like more old pally, new is good too, but old one is very original, great atipic face. Or you can combine old with new, :D It is only my suggestion, waiting for more updates

03 March 2006, 06:31 AM
colors, composition and a framing test, nothing huge but a slight update and the new pally by far not finnished but at least a bit of progress.
I'm not really happy with the composition but i'll best relook it with a fresh pair of eyes i guess...

ahrgh, slightly unsatisfied atm... :banghead:

03 March 2006, 06:39 AM
I don't know what to crit at the moment, I hope to see something soon! good luck!

03 March 2006, 06:46 AM
hey man, just one suggestion regarding the theme, emotion, sadly the faces of the characters aren't showing enough i think... they seem to be in a state of trance. i hope you will do something with the illustration at the bottom. always a nice relief to see your work here.

03 March 2006, 06:50 AM
You simply nailed the faces, great great work. I like your painting style, looking forward to updates. Great work so far.

03 March 2006, 01:21 PM
great concept.

i really like the "comic book cover" composition. looking forward to updates!

03 March 2006, 02:03 PM
Hey, Sacha, looking good! I think the instinct to make your paladin "tougher" looking is a good one, and I like the new sketch... but it's not fitting inot the composition as well as the old one did. It's the angle of the camera on that one hear: The original was this nice dramatic under-shot, and this new one is positioned int he same way, but some of the features don't look like they're matching the camera angle quite right. For example, the nose in v1.0 was a lovely shot from below, fit great, but v2.0's nose doesn't look like it's taken from the same low camera, more of a level 3-quarters camera and forced into place. Same could be said for the lips and the chin too.

As for the composition, you mentioned not being happy with it. I have to confess, while you do a great job with it, I've never been a huge fan of the "movie-poster style" composition with lots of heads and small scenes. Nothing personal, it's just not my thing. I think that one pivotal scene pulled out showing a pivotal point in a story has the potential to be a lot more powerful. Because of that, I really loved the piece you were working on last challenge. This one here: I like it because I love watching you render characters and I love your art, but it doesn't speak to me other than that.

Hope you don't mind my saying that. The important part in there is still the 'I love your art' part! :) And I know that you'll do a rocking piece no matter what. Anyhow, hope the top notes were vaguely useful... Good luck with it, and catch you 'round!

03 March 2006, 06:11 PM
Looking good so far bro. Thats definately a trademark style. Sorry been abscent for a while

I see you're unhappy with the composition. hmm, you know i dont have a problem with the movie poster idea, but i like the suggestion of WALRUS. Maybe just focus on a scene. You have it going on at the bottom area. Maybe just extend that part so you can show more of that kingdom you have there.

i dont know... at least you're not like me... i need to make a back up plan just in case i pull the last minuite changes again :banghead:

be back again crazy bro. Hope everything is going well over at Zurich.

cheers :p

03 March 2006, 09:26 PM
keep going :applause:

03 March 2006, 09:37 PM
Great progress so far. Those faces are full of character. The guy on the left could do with a slightly squarer jaw, however, and the one on the right - his helmet is on crooked ;) (the bits around his cheeks) On the composition front, I'd have at least two of the towers climbing out of sight behind the character scene, instead of ending just before.

03 March 2006, 04:11 AM
Hey Sacha, sorry for not visiting your thread for a while.
Your character design skills are truly superb and lovely to behold (as such, I really have no critiques on that area). As for the composition, I kinda agree with the others about shifting from a "movie-poster" style to a more "individual-scene" illustration. The scene you currently have in the bottom of the comp. is really appealling (with the characters bathed in gold sunlight and the blue-violet walls surrounding them), so I would suggest maybe making that your main illustration. If you're really set on the illustration being a movie poster like what you have know, I'd focus more attention on the scene by making that the main element of the comp., with the characters profiles further up in the comp. and decreased in size (in constrast to the characters of the main scene).

All the best, mate. :)

03 March 2006, 08:03 PM
Good Work angel:thumbsup:

03 March 2006, 08:25 PM
great character design. also like the "movie poster"-type composition. wonderful colors, too....

03 March 2006, 11:26 PM
nice update!!i love the concept, looks great!!and the message is clear! keep it up!:D

03 March 2006, 09:18 PM
this is realy realy good sacha...sehr gut......:applause:

03 March 2006, 03:28 AM
it looks very epic and cool!

I really like the face of the little girl uper left.

plz go on iam licking forward to the finished pice! :bounce:

::: the journey begins ::: (

03 March 2006, 05:02 AM
I don't think I can recall any of your characters having that macho chiseled look, but even without that typical feature you still can produce great characters. Looks like you have an awesome story developing about these guys, more than what you have lead on?

And one day you might have to explain what is with the closeups just floating in your images?

03 March 2006, 02:45 PM (
As for the dark lord turns the tear of earthgodess, the holy stone who's light can grand life against nature itself, an army of undead scum, ogres and beasts so evil each living beings blood who faces that would chill to the bone - starts marching towards the worlds of the light. A green fog of living dead and unspeakable horror a wave of terror - the army of doom.

lol, having fun painting ugly things, this is the paintbase, starting the renderings now. this will be the left part of the framing

03 March 2006, 03:34 PM
Darth wil: lol, nooooooooooooooo i am NOT your son, as far as i know. and yes, i find weathered heros much more fun to paint than things that could have popped outa mens health or vogue for men... as for the sorceress, would u place a fawn in middle of that buncha ruffnecks? tried to find a mix between an attractive woman anda worriorchik that kicks evvery guys butt easily in that fellowship. hehe, prolly goin to smove her a bit to at least have 1 cute character in the whole piece :)

Blaz: that I found the colors a bit too brightned, maybe coz u probably started painting on a white canvas..
yes thats true, but things start ballance in, already working on darker values. lots of things changed. my new machine is slow and does not have 1/4 of speed and memory of what my actually broken machine has. so i make progress a bit slower and paint in segments to handle the piece, since the full image is around 7500x5800px and my machine has problems to handle my paintspeed on such a big canvas. i am painting elements drop them on the pice and tweak the lumminace before i drop it into the canvas.

Kidster: thanks mate

Enialadam: glad u like it. I still am not 100% concinced or satisfied with it nut i'm working on the details now to see how it works together.

mona, thesuper gp: thought so as well, u can see it in the main part, they already have a flirt running in a rain of petals when leaving town. probably something that turns out to be complicated but could be a beginning of a journey itself as well, wouldn't it?

Toni: I'll work on that, thanks :)

Rawad: I gave it a try already but he somehow didnt look mighty enough for my taste. well, wait until i am done renderign with him, he's supposed to become the champion of humanity's fighters.

Beelow: lol, i'm taking it slow this time since i settled on a concept fast and i think there's MUCH you could crit on the whole thing, in the other hand its wip and still very early.

Slav: you probably are right as usual. i hope when further rendered, the expressions will match the idea of each character i have in my mind. the bottom part will take most of the time, since this is the main scene itself.

Slickgreekgeo: thanks mate. far from being nailed but wanted to see how they work together to fint correct values before i start detailing them too much.

Marcom: thanks mate

Walrus: Thanks alot mate. your crits always are a great help. I also took in perspective to go for the "mainscene" only, but sadly, i dont have the option to play my joker there, painting faces, wich means the most fun part of character design for me.

about the shading mistakes and the not matching nose, yeah after u metioned that, it kept bothering me any time i look at him and i will probably shade him from the scratch again, since the linearts looked way more promising than what the prerendered version turned out and since there are too many mistakes in it, it goes as easy as tweakig to go for another overpaint of him. the composition lacks of dephg atm, and a simple scene is fun too but: as i said, this is a way for me to having fun with painting faces detailed enough.
hehe, to be honest, i found i really done a shite piece in spectacular, i wasnt very comfortable with the topic itself and i couldnt find much motivation for it over all. this one is way more fun and well... i might go for a single pov compo another piece. :)

Archie: Same here mate dont u worry. my pc died, lost tons a data, 2 weeks of work lost and then much work to do so i didn't have much time for the challenge at all. its thinkable i will give the kingdom a bigger range, since the composition acually lacks of a main focal point. hope nyc is fun too, once my cashflow replenishes, things get back to normal life again, and the next 2 month will be invested to make that sure.

Simon: hey mate, thanks for that. the city will be more in front when i render them, forgot that and thanks for the overview. as for the other points, thanks, a lot, putem all on my to fix list too.

Jason: As for the composition, I kinda agree with the others about shifting from a "movie-poster" style to a more "individual-scene" illustration. The scene you currently have in the bottom of the comp. is really appealling (with the characters bathed in gold sunlight and the blue-violet walls surrounding them), so I would suggest maybe making that your main illustration. If you're really set on the illustration being a movie poster like what you have know, I'd focus more attention on the scene by making that the main element of the comp., with the characters profiles further up in the comp. and decreased in size (in constrast to the characters of the main scene).
thanks for that ugestion. thats mainly what i intended to, but since i haven had much time to work on this piece, it probably will take a bit more time to get it right.

Tolga: thanks a lot mate :)

Jeviant: thanks a lot

Calisto: thank you so much linda :)

KMest: thanks mate!

Fray: yeah, the girly makes 5% of the piece this time :) wheee not a girly piece, hehe.

Tilite: the closeups floating are maybe the something like inner pictures blending into each other, the defocused visions that give me multiple povs of a character and grant me to show what a character is affecting on me... erm, i might find a better explainatin for it...:D as for now, i simply have fun with it :)

03 March 2006, 03:48 PM
looking good mate.. like your verse to go with it...

03 March 2006, 05:32 PM
Wow! I like the porgress so far.

03 March 2006, 06:04 PM (

lol, ugly things take shape :)

03 March 2006, 06:07 PM
W!L & pushav: thanks mates :) yeah this is not particulary the cutest part of the piece but never the less much fun, thought i post some more steps to show ppl the weird way i work :p

03 March 2006, 06:17 PM
scary ugly dudes you got here...

03 March 2006, 06:38 PM
Here comes the army of darkness, now where did I leave that boomstick :scream:

Nice updates Sacha. Hope you've fixed all your electrical probs by now :)

03 March 2006, 06:49 PM
wow .. scary decoration you pulled out of your hat there

03 March 2006, 06:51 PM
Smart Birdy:Nice updates Sacha. Hope you've fixed all your electrical probs by now :)
lol, it was the ricecookers wires end that was laying in the sink and... who would have thought that lets half of the house go dark...
and, no, still not having nuff power to have all things on my usbhub at the same time, if only i remember where i put the damn net adapter, i plug anything in, windows goes bye bye :p

Mona & Adrian: aren't they cute? fredie rotten, rob zombie and friends decieded to go shopping in town, with em their french gueststudent Jean Renogre, and of course Lumpy's beloved pet "Stinky", what a nice crew :scream:

03 March 2006, 10:40 PM
Now this is very interesting. me like the composition a lot   really like the dark creatures as well. Yeah, keep going with this one, looks awesome :D

be back for more spamming crazy bro :buttrock:

03 March 2006, 12:51 AM (

and the moon shines bright, in this beautifull night. lalala.

had a lil break and wohooo here's the next step, moooovin on :)

the little story again: fredie rotten, rob zombie and friends decieded to go shopping in town, with em their french gueststudent Jean Renogre, and of course Lumpy's beloved pet "Stinky", what a nice crew. The three were quiet upset when Jean halfway to town admited that he forgot to lock the tomb. :scream: ...

03 March 2006, 12:54 AM
i guess everyone must be confused, this is NOT a new piece, its just part of the frame :) and paiting ugly things after a stressful day is sort of relaxing :)

03 March 2006, 01:14 AM
just the full piece to show what the rotten crew is about :)

03 March 2006, 04:47 AM
cool updates keep going

03 March 2006, 05:11 AM
shit...

'nuff said.

03 March 2006, 05:56 AM (
in short, he somehow misses her eyes while talking, she somehow notices that, babydragon, can't take it anymore... :p

jk. started coloring the mainscene, copied a 200% view of it into the piece (dont worry u wont see floating faces in the next step, just put em there to show the view i am paintig at, and i am prbably goin to change his eyes but found it very funny when i noticed that. since i actually atemp to paint a tad bit more realistic, i will tweak the main faces to give em a bit a more realistic look. of course, its just an experiment. the renderings are by far not finnished but i liked the faces and thought i'd post em like they are. :)

03 March 2006, 06:34 AM
Toni: thx mate i will. had a painting day today and lots of fun with it :)

anzibon: lol u know u rock do you? thanks a lot mate wish i had your creativety in concepting, i simpy was lazy and painted the first that came into my mind, a fantasy piece. lazy me :p

03 March 2006, 07:40 AM
It's very well done, your final should be killer! Looking forward to more updates. Now, spam!

03 March 2006, 07:54 AM
Yeah, impressive rendering on those characters.
IN FACT, i like them even more than those big heads you already did. You should definately go for a bit more realism, seems to suit you and your way to work very well.

Thanks for the helpful comment on my thread. Very much appreciated.

03 March 2006, 07:59 AM
of course he won´t look her in the eyes.. with that body and outfit that she has on.. no man would... :p ;)

and you been workinghard, keep it up, and thanks for showing it :bounce:

03 March 2006, 09:49 AM
excellent! the figure/ pose is superb !
also , love the bad guy designs : ) reminds me a little of the dream sequence in american werewolf in London- eek!

great work man.

03 March 2006, 09:57 AM
wow man! whole lot of work going on here, i can tell this is a detail pusher! i cant wait to see the final aspect!!!

03 March 2006, 10:02 AM
That characters aren't stranger, that will be good ...
waiting for upgrates.

03 March 2006, 10:25 AM
wow nice work m8

Actually i think its cool hes not looking at her ... its like hes thinking about something in the middle of a sentence and his eyes drift down for a sec :applause:

03 March 2006, 03:29 PM

its really comming along nicely :)
its got a real old school D&D book cover/ poster feel going...

i think its really going to be a challange to get the blending of all the elements going together...any ideas on how you are going to do it?

anyway i like the action going on here...lots to look at...sorta like a whole story in one picture...

yay!! :)

03 March 2006, 03:33 PM
absolutely. when's the film out ? ;)

03 March 2006, 04:08 PM
Hi Sacha, may I ask you a question? No offense intended, but why do your characters never change? The same costumes, the same faces, the same woman :D . I almost couldn't tell all your challenge entries apart. I really hope to see something new and refreshing from you.

03 March 2006, 04:33 PM

why do your characters never change? The same costumes, the same faces, the same woman :D . I almost couldn't tell all your challenge entries apart. I really hope to see something new and refreshing from you.

that really was very polite and helpfull

Same costumes, same girl? look, letme explain you something. if i have to paint something i get paid for i paint someone's wife the way she looks, or an old woman, a certain person, then its simply work. i do this cuz its fun and i think i cover a large banwith of styles and techniques if i am asked to, but what i do for fun and olnly fun is my own personal way how i like to paint girls when i do so. And appart from that i dont think they all look the same.
I hope this wont turn out to be the general discussion in my thread now, but i posted this to answer that once annd for all, cuz i cant hear it anymore.

...and yes the sorceress in the bottom is looking the same way she looks in the headerpart, cuz she is supposed to be the same woman.

03 March 2006, 04:44 PM
as long as you keep them coming man.

its all good

03 March 2006, 04:58 PM
i love the throne image picture, totally reminds me of the Mummy-theme, and thats good :D

03 March 2006, 05:06 PM
I love your women (and men). And I think they each look unique but with a Sacha style.

jeromoo, there is a difference between criticism and constructive criticism (now where have I heard that before ( Constructive criticism is used to help someone with their art, criticism is used to attack someone personally. You may have thought you were being polite but you didn't help Sacha make this painting any better. Actually, maybe you should bring it up again so Sacha can post more of his gorgeous women.

03 March 2006, 05:45 PM
you know what, i dont think the clothes are the same at all. the faces might look similar but come on thats not the way to say stuff, especially when its realy enjoyable to look at.

i actually like sasha's style, dont mind seeing the same face, but most of those faces have simple similarities they are not truly the same.

03 March 2006, 07:05 PM
Well I've noticed most of Sacha's last pics are changing quite a bit.

Sure he does tend to make his galls with full lips and small noses but I wouldn't go as far as to say they're all the same. Every girl does have her own stare, different eyes, hair. I don't recall characters with the same clothes unless he was doing a series of pics

Come on guys everyone deep down inside paints his dream girl most of the time, I guess the subconscious sometimes slips in features we'd like to see...

The girl by the fan looks great, finish her if you get a moment

03 March 2006, 07:34 PM
Wow! Man this is looking great.

Wish you the best for your entry.

03 March 2006, 07:56 PM
jeromoo - many illustrators search all their lives for an individual style. You wouldn't ask Linda B to do something more cartoony would you? :)

Great stuff Angel! I dig your style

03 March 2006, 09:13 PM
jeromoo- Be careful what u say next time around, I think u upset Angel man! An apology would work well, man, take care, why u not in this contest???

I like the latest update dude. It has alot of narrative in it! There is something there between the man and the woman that seems to work well together, as the previous one, that had more of a Lord of the Rings feel to it! Keep rocking it!

03 March 2006, 04:58 AM
Hey Sacha, first things first! A big SORRY to you! I kept my word to you to send you a note here for all to see! What I mean is that I knew you can do a variety of costumes, and such but those are outside of all cgchallenges, but for every challenge we have, I see almost the same character in a way, if not in its essence. But now I realised I have been rude and I hope you don't see me that way. Your characters are very disctinctive and that's your trademark. I'm sure if I saw anyone who painted girls like yours I would have immediately thought that that person is inspired by you. I hope you accept my apology, Sacha.

JTD, warpy, 3dRaven, digital_bobert, beelow: I understood. Sorry if I offended you as well. By the way, digital_bobert, Linda B did some 'cartoons' like the zombie concepts (you can find those in her cgportfolio), but strangely those are my favourites of all the works she ever did.

03 March 2006, 05:54 AM
waiting for updates

03 March 2006, 07:53 AM
great stuff sasha., jsut keeps gettig better .. i do have one small crit though.. the girls jaw looks like it goes bakc slightly too far... the anatomy seems a bit off... maybe if you brung the jaw toward her facial features just a bit more. just seems like her profile would be too long.. hope that makes sense?

03 March 2006, 08:17 AM
first of all i apologize for my over reaction. i simply was reading this as the first thing of my free day this week and was overtired and oversensual, then, i heard that crit before and i said those thing before. In fact i felt personally attacked i was so sad and upset i didnt make it to paint a single stroke for my own bad.
I appreciate who you, my friends, cheered me up and also suported me and defended my point of view.

Still i think my callenge girls do not look the same, letme explain what i tried to create.

My master and servant girl was a sensul vulverable personality. She protects what lives in her and lives freedom trough what she is doing in her dancing in a life she didnt choose...
I tried to illustrate her desire for a better life as well as her being in her own world when she is dancing, but also the aspect of her masters might that is useless when it comes to feelings.

The 2 girls in the spectacular entry both were very selfconfident fighters born in an era around AD400-600 where romans tried to take down britains tribes, shotly before the end of the great celtic era where northeurope had matriachal structures. Warriors had been taugt in the arts of combat by women, it is only natural the princess was a proud and strong very selfconfident woman and educated in martial arts and swordfight by the best.
As for the lioness, i focused on the fact her father was a leader, a centurion or very high military rank that more than all wihshed himself a son. Growing up in that time and wanting to please her father, her only way as a female to become a fighter were romes galdiator schools and her way led the ambitious young woman to the top. It was said that rome was pleased by fights between female gladiators, a main attraction that - when christianity took over the social structures - was stopped by the senat, since they judged them to be too cruel.

The actual girl, the only female of 5 main characters and over 30 clearly visable characters in the piece is a sorceress. In the very young age, some ppl already show talents for abileties some would describe to be overnatural. These are things like the foresight, telepathy, telekinetic abileties, the mastery of elemental magic, wich i strongly believe were abieleties some humans could have had when they were able to focus on spritual strenghts.
Such a woman must have a very strong personality, she also might apear cocky but basically she is a lady who grew up learning to use he spritual powers and went trough the hard school of magic in the very young age wich lets her look at small problems or simple desires with a certain sarcasm.
Sorceresses - the formerly holy women, healers, Women of nature, once, when mankind believed nature was the bearing mother, might also have been spritual leaders. Another aspect of her is the fact she is a combat sorceress, a spellsword who has the abileties to enchant the steel with the power of natures elements by will, make her, despite her tender and sweet visual apearance, at least as fearsome and dangerous in combat like the paladin to her side who is a tank of a man.

Each fraction of the light sent their champoin to bring back the jewel of life "the tear of the godess" wich was stolen and abused to raise an army of dead flesh. The fire of life is streaming trough the dead bodies of long fallen warriors now and the dark lord summons horrible beings for the otherworld, ogres, trolls, and whatever is attracted by evil powers. A wave of undead terror is about to overrun the lands of the living. A woman brave enough to face such horrors and willing to do all takes, at all price, stop that wave and send back those things to the hell they were coming from is a heroine - worth that her story shall be told here too, partitially, where their journey - to the biggest quest, a quest of quests - begins...

Yes, he has silverwhite hair, and the Snakedancer had that too. But thats mainly all simularities i can discover between the two. And the Celtic and the Roman fightresses were two totally different concepts. If their personality doesnt come trough enough, i am sad to hear that.
Each character i create has a certain story to tell, some, silent, some with thunders and crys, some sweet and vulverable and some drinking a drooling boar beautifull when drunken in the wilderness, its lonely out there...(lol thats what my roomate said about the orcs) who might know that. But each empty canvas is a challange for me, each person i create shall have her own personality and each piece i attemp to paint is part of me and i try to bring to life with all my effort. Yes, i have my style to create characters and i have certain features i find attractive on a young woman.

About simularities, history showed beauty ideals were also a reflection of time eras. Noone particulary would find attractive, what was jugded to be attractive 500 years ago if they'd see that person like it was painted, today on the street. If you look at what painters been seeking in ideals, you can make out clear simularities in optics, typical features in every era, beauty ideals strongly are reflected in classic art. Style of painting, for me, means personal interpretation. It's impossible to recreate a new type of human being or a beauty ideal. Evolution and time will do that. My time formed my feeling for beauty and my so called taste and i will keep painting what i find beautifull or what i have fun with, in my sparetime.

The best: i will come up with an update tomorrow, if i get one ready.

Jeremoo: I never intended to start a flaming here but it hit me and i am glad this has ended in peace. I said it before, i am sorry for having overreacted.
as for lindas toons, i think i remember, one of her sweetest works was glimpse of summer or so, a sweet piece of her riding trough the forest on azrael and her Kitty comics are really entertaining as well. great stuff. that, i think was not Bobbys point i think, what he was to say is to crit a piece not an indiviual style. since can see now you didnt mean to crit my style and work, it would be pointless to warm it up again.
Thanks again for the appology, it takes much to do that and you gained my respect, i hope you accept mine as well.

Beelow: hey mate, thanks. its almost impossible not being compared on LotR or Warcraft or any of the classics when doing fantasy themes. i tried to build a little story about a holy stone that grants the power to create new life, wich might not be new as well but at least if a scary necromancing overlord has, it it makes sense to send out a small group of elite warriors to bring it back. The paladin, a blessed warrior and holy man himself and her, a master of elemental magic sure have a level together, but as it seems, he's still a man and has not so holy or spiritual interrests for what she is as well, a beautifull woman :)

Bobby: thank you very much. You are a wonderfull person and one of my fav artists, stay as you are and thanks for your statement.

Lagutrop: thanks man

Greg Warpy and Jdt: thanx my friends Yep, i actually am experimenting with the amount of realism in my character design since i try always to give my design as much personality as possible. and i try to find out where attemps to paint a tad bit more realistic will lead me. this also should separate the females stronger from each other. as for constructive crits and sugestions, i always was open to that and asked for it. thats what wip is about and brings you further, in any meaning, this is what makes this community this great. great environment of great talents that help each other to grow and a great spirit between friends.

i'm off to bed and now back to what cgtalk means to me, lets have fun and do great works, best of luck to you all have an insired and creative day, hope i can come up with a nice update later. keep on rocking!

03 March 2006, 08:55 AM
thanks wil, i 'll relook that.

03 March 2006, 09:15 AM
thanks for such a thourough explaining, Sacha. I understand you better now. I'm glad this matter has been sorted out! Keep in touch at MSN!

03 March 2006, 03:58 PM

hehe :)

little drunk :)

03 March 2006, 04:31 AM (

started sketching out the city, basically not too happy with the actualy stage but i thought its time for a little post :)

03 March 2006, 04:48 AM
Jeremoo: aight cool i will :)
Cyperone: lol sheeersh! :wip:

...ble had a slow day and the last 2 hours all i done was making it worse, but at least i have found more or less the palette and main values now, Drawf and the Elf have their first apearance too.

bout colors and contrasts, i got a major problem to see what i do cuz my lcd is overcontrasted and my normal screen has not a very good contrast, wich lets me work more or less blind. need to calibrate em as soon as i can.

03 March 2006, 08:51 AM
Oo...thats a grand departure....Fellowship scale....I dont mind for the your challenge girls to all appear the same or not...they are all sexy!:scream: :D

Keep it up Sacha....

03 March 2006, 08:58 AM
I am glad you are back to your old spirit Sacha :)
You know - something I keep saying to myself: without being overly sensitive we couldn't create the art we do, it's somehow a curse and a blessing the same time.

03 March 2006, 09:08 AM
Nice Explanation, I am glad to see that u and jeromoo have worked things out, back to painting!

Are u gonna still have those faces arbitrarily placed in the painting or are u gonna go with this as it is now? If u are going with this without the faces maybe u should consider a closer shot of those characters, only personal preference though Sacha good luck!

03 March 2006, 09:27 AM
Cool! I love composition and color atmosphere. Castle starting looks great :) I waiting for next updates :D

03 March 2006, 09:29 AM
Oooo I've missed quite a bit haven't I.

Anyways...WOW! Sascha this is really coming along. You have so many wonderful characters, I love that you have to look up close to find some of them. Really nice composition you have going on.

Great work! I'm really looking forward to seeing the final result of this, keep it going!

03 March 2006, 11:06 AM
nice sacha keep it up dude

03 March 2006, 12:26 PM
hey sacha sorry for postng tooo late, actualuy i was on a long vacation......

sooooooooo...i see the progress all the same time and it looks perfetc....the dark sides and the dragon are very well painted...just as i expected from you...the heroes and specialy the heroin are very intresting and well shaped....specialy the GIRL(i repeat THE GIRL:) )....
the city:well not the best of you..i think you have to do something about the look of the towers,mmmm....maybe they're too normal

the composition is great as usual......but dont you think it will be better to have no crowed around the heroes???it will make some sence that even when they're going to save the city,no one cares for them much...or they're alone as before...instead of the HOPE sence...just a thought:thumbsup:

Rock&roll buddy:thumbsup:

03 March 2006, 12:37 PM
one suggestion: cut of the towers over the gate and focus and the upper parts of the city in the back :)

03 March 2006, 01:11 PM
lol too much to read, dont apologize too much. there are so many girls out there, from time to time they all seem the same :P

03 March 2006, 08:34 PM (

i decieded to give the dwarf more of a normannic kinda armor, wich was a fairly stupid idea, took me the half of the afternoon to get the chainmail right. looking at em, i activated "show subtiles"... ;)

03 March 2006, 09:20 PM (

and here's a closeup screenshot

03 March 2006, 09:54 PM
that dwarf looks so cute... almost hugable... :bounce: and he laffs a lot to I see... haha

03 March 2006, 10:31 PM
ROFL, that's cool! I think they look ttheir part, the dwarf looks like a fun guy to be drinking with

03 March 2006, 11:50 PM
The woman turned out really well, congrats on her! Your speciality, isn't it? :D

The dwarf is indeed a cool fella, but his proportions are a bit :curious: . I mean, if you look at it and think where his waist is..his knees....the size of the head...ya know?
Aside from that, this is turning out marvellously. Ich liebe es, sehr toll!

03 March 2006, 02:44 AM
theresa: so you are not into dwarfen anatomy? maybe its because you are not a local, at home he's quit often seen as covermodel, the crowd goes wild about him.

lol, sorry aly, couldn't resist :p

03 March 2006, 03:24 AM
^ROFLMAO :D:buttrock::applause: Ha haaa!!!

03 March 2006, 06:35 AM
Hi your style, seems this is gonna be a huge work to do, cant wait to see it finished

03 March 2006, 06:46 AM
coool keep going

03 March 2006, 06:46 AM
is the drawf swedish... or is just the flag? .. hehe... he sure is a funny one...

03 March 2006, 09:29 AM
Hi Fellow-Swiss,

Cool illustration. Why not making the characters a bit rougher, exegerated in terms of their behaviours and origins? Like knight having a big blond mane, the dwarf being terribly ugly, and the elve(is it one?) looking kind of slighlty gay.. I know it's a weird idea but with your skills, i believe you could push those characters even further.
Just a thought from your neighbor:)

Best regards and big respect

Good point, Chupacabra. I second this. Along with the opinion of paperclip that u should give the dwarf´s proprortions a second look. It simply doesn´t look right.
If you manage to render all parts like this wonderful heroine, this will be mindblowing.

03 March 2006, 10:41 AM
Man I've been away for to long again, I'm missing everything here...

Anywho, I think this is turning out great Sacha, I really can't think of anything usefull to say, just wanted to drop by and let you know I'm not planning on dropping out this time hahaha, in case you were wondering... :p
I'll keep watching ya! :buttrock:

03 March 2006, 12:01 PM
Can't wait to see the dwarf evolve..maybe add some slight motion blur to his hands to show that he's busy chatting away :)

03 March 2006, 12:17 PM
Dear Lord Sacha, it looks like you're right!

A few minutes with Google reveals this book....'rugnar the sex bomb!'
who woulda thunk...

03 March 2006, 12:18 PM
Heya hun... forgive me for not getting here earlier.. I can't believe I've missed the fact that there's a challenge going for the past month! I personally think it's great to see the Sacha style back in action, and also great to see you giving more attention to your men! The sorceress will be the main focus, I don't doubt, simply because of the gorgeous girls you paint, but it's great to see some real fantastical stuff going on. I'm boggling over that chain mail... painting a row of chainlinks is hard enough, but a whole armor set, wow!

And rofl at the subtitles... though I'm dying to know what the anagrams the paladin has mean...

Keep up the good work hun, and I'll finish this time if you do... *grin*

03 March 2006, 05:11 PM
nice compostions sacha, u did a great job all way.... :applause:
sorry i missed out on the beginning... but i am glad i am here now... thanks for dropping by at my thread .. thanq for ur kind words... :)
Deep the great work going on..

03 March 2006, 07:54 PM
Dear Lord Sacha, it looks like you're right!

A few minutes with Google reveals this book....'rugnar the sex bomb!'
who woulda thunk...

omg lmao rofl i die pwahahahahahahaha simpy too good! hahahahaha u made my day! hahaha rurgnar is da bomb. looool! madem fall out my chair of laughing, thanks thanks thanks, love u for that!:scream:

Tony: thanks mate

Makaron: Yes Mona, when i started to work on the detailing, first the howns of his helmet led me to viking design, then i fount the horns annoying so i got rid of em, then i had normanic worriors in my head for the style of gadgets, then i started researching for normanic, viking, saxon huns, to get me a full historical accurate cicture of a possible dwarven world. hehe, and if so, yes, of course he is swedish.

Chupacrabra: Hi Khan, hehe, great to meet another fellow zurich guy, its been lonely for years in here i can tell ;) as for the designs, first, i am painting the way you do, i build up the characters straight in the canvas itself to get the details wich grants me a certain spontanious way , lets say i virtually set a cous sharp, 2nd, yes, they all are unfunnished. to tell a bit about the characters themself:
Paladin: A holy man, a blessed warrior who has charged countless times in the name of the light against the forces of darkness, a crusader who brings civilisation and redeems primitive tribes from misbelieves... lol, my roommate xactly defined his character, in the first shot he said, cool, he's an asshole, when i went for the resign , he said, wheee, now he looks like an asshole from italy.
He's a fanatic, selfconvinced and shouting his mightiy words against the hordes, "In the NAME OF THE LIGHT - (long, artificial pause) I SHALLL ..." lol, wich makes me laugh, picture him like that.
I look at what Vatican Corporation Ldt. Inc. has done in a wonderfull period of more than 1000 years of holy wars, Inquisition, crusades... with a certain critisism. Of course, the christian believe for me is absolutely a good thing, since i am a christian myself, i think the core idea itself is good. What they made of it is another topic.
The paladin is for me is the representer of what happened in that time. It is clear, he thinks his own believe is the only right way to believe. As for the sorceress, she is part of a high culture who worships nature herself. There might be other points they argue about for a whole journey, but when it comes to fight the army of dooms leader, such things as religions or even smaller terms wont be important anymore.

Dwarf: I think if i recall myself on the Edda, the nordic mythology with ragnarök, walhalla, thor, loki.. i have a rich cultural background for all the dwarven aspects as well and if there is one thing i am convinced about what dwarfs really done, they drank many horns of met and were rumbling, behaving recently rough, laughed, smoked pipes. And had legendary treasures, were masters in smithing - vikings come close to what i picture the dwarven culture to have been like.

Elf: The elven archer is supposed to have a slightly androgynous look, dunno if that was what you were supposed to say with "slightly gay" - still i plan to make him more male than of what i LOTR's Orlando bloom looked like. The challenge itself for creating him will be to create an interesting handsome man, i usually avoid painting cute men cuz i find that boring. to create him and find a ballance between goodluking and a believable warrior, the elven champion, will take me much time.
I have a very high culture if elves in my head form stories been told all over europe, whenever it came to contact between elves and humans, humans reminded it as a miracle. the idea they are an elder race works best for me and to design him will grant me to create the most elegant armors of the 4 fellows. The high art of elven silversmithing is the perfection beween esthetics and functionality.

Since those are just closeups of the mainscene and the characters will be barely visable in the final piece, this is very much time i invest to get me the best possible rough out of them for the header, since i was tuck with it a bit. the mainfocus of the developement is the definition of them, good enough to be painting portraits of each of them after and being 100% sure about their looks and props. about the dwarfs anatomy, he is the smallest of em all and the overlong chainmail even lets his upper torso apear longer, but ince i finnished dhading his clothy, i think that should have solved, so stay tuned

Thorsten: thanks for pointing it out. well the unfinnished pars should solve that and if not i tweak whats off. thats what WIP is about.

Zephyri: dear god I missed ya here Luv! Hunny, you were off way too long and its really isnt the same without you. Yes, I actually focus on my all over paiting, first its practicing what i usually cant do cuz of the lack of time such as large complex environments on an ultrahigh level of detail, second, males, if i am not asked to paint them, i usully paint em girls, cuz they simply are more attractive to paint.
The chainmail was a 3 steps work, i first paintes a sloid metal layer to get methe base values, then painted the rings wich i used as cutmask, then, in a 3rd step, painted highlights and shadows for every single ring and i have to say now, i really really do NOT envy the guys who had to make thousands of them, the work was huge and this was just 1 single chanmail, dressing an army would be a pain in the butt, i can tell.
Bout the subtitles. Lol, yeah he's a nerd, and of course he likes the sorc. its been a true herowork to upset her already 50 meters in front of the towngate, is it? lol
I hope i can finnish this time, i settled on a base layout and on the characters very fast so i have enough time to knock out all the details. I terribly failed in Spec*/&*lar and feel way more comfortable now. probably sould have done the same i do now, choose something i feel comfortable with and just let it grow. Welcome Back my sweet, glad you are back to cgtalk hun!

Triumphant: thanks a lot Victoria. no problem, my pleasure, and i really can see already a great piece in your sketch, so get your machine busy

Warpy:thanks mate

Vahn: good point had doubts too about the outer 2 of the 4 towngate towers. i probably get rid of them.

Kmest:so we been in vacation. lol, green of envy. hehe. yeah of course the girl. lol. the citiy is just sketched roughly yet, my maininspirations are venice and mont sint michel de la mer, i actually will, as soon as mainvalues are nailed, start with detailing on them. there wont be a too huge crowd, just a bit, of townfolk and some petalspreading virgins. :)

Madalaine: thanks a lot!

Rawwad: thanks mate, lots of work still to get done on the town, but slowly getting the idea.

Beelow: its still going to be the poster layout, since i am painting on over 7500x5000 somthing, this will endup as a poster for printing as well. thats why i started on an allover level of detail that is very high.

Kyena: True, 100% ând sometimes there are days critisism, as nice as they are meant to be and as much as i appreciate them, i cant handle them on cetain days

Nazuril: lol, glad u find em sexy. they love to hear that

as for now, i go back to paiting, thanks for the crits sugestions and support. happy brushing and pixelburning to you all!:)

03 March 2006, 08:04 PM
lol Paperclip - that is totally cool :)

03 March 2006, 08:09 PM
*My eyes, my eyes!!!* LOL paperclip :p

Hey Sacha wow! quick updates, awsome characters!

03 March 2006, 09:26 PM
LMAO, Sacha, you're a bad man! Bless ya! Thanks for the heads up, I've been a bit absent haven't I? You've done Daisy proud! ;)

03 March 2006, 08:31 PM
What a fun and beautiful thread you got here! And I really like where you're going with this - the colors in the last updates are wonderful.

03 March 2006, 03:31 AM (

not really progressing, just roughly painted the little girl that spreads the petals on the left side. bigger update tomorrow :)

03 March 2006, 03:35 AM
Madaleine: he, yep i will. lacked of sleep a bit so i got slow :p

Aly: yeah missed you round mate, hope the stress calms for you too, so we see more of your work in here ;)

Gunilla: thanks mate! the mitey Gunilla here, wheeee :) your 3d thread is too good! lovem petz

well have a good nite all, was too tired to paint so i stopped here and will take it up again tomorrow :)

03 March 2006, 03:40 AM
i really enjoy seeing your updates, it's great fun to see how loose you start and then watch it take shape!

i think this image will turn out awesome!

03 March 2006, 05:17 AM
keep going :bounce: keep going :bounce: keep going :bounce:

03 March 2006, 08:06 AM
Hi Sacha,

All it takes is a thumb to know it´s your work. A very well developed personal style.
Your characters are good and I like the idea and environment aswell.
The composition however... You have put so much attention to the characters and then you make them that small and place them in the lower half. I´d like to see them brought much closer so that their facialexpressions are clear even in low res.
Keep up the good work!

03 March 2006, 08:16 AM
I like that addition of the flower girl. This is starting to get better Sacha!

03 March 2006, 09:46 AM
Ohhh.... nice update - dammit, you're good! :scream:

thanks for the nice refs - much appreciated.

I hope for the next challenge we all be in the same area - I'm so frustrated about forgetting to check out the 2d- section... and it's all about images anyway.

thanks again, you made my day ;)

03 March 2006, 10:04 AM
im digging the castle design, feels like Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings to me, and I love that feel! good work man!

03 March 2006, 10:09 AM
Hey Sacha!
your (drawn) women are beautiful as always.. Pretty cool dwarf, haha.. :D
Lovin' the characterdesigns.. very good.

03 March 2006, 06:04 PM
gigatron: thanks mate. well my way to work is a bit confuse but if i do it this way, its the most fun. glad u like it

Tony: thanx bro!

Norberg: you might be right, going to give it a try, thanks mate.

Adhonios. Thanks a lot man! Yes the town is supposed to be very high, i love to work fractal, first give it a rough shape, then use that as base to add minor shapes that are the hhouses and then move in to paint the houses themself, that way, i gain sum nice dimensions.

Michael Motion: Hhahaha, glad you like the dwarf. Well the elf and the paladin are not finnished yet, its possible the piece will look slightly different in a few mins, i am about to tweak the full piece now and once i see whats going to be visable and what not, i continue the detailing. problem is since my new pc isnt that strong, i cant paint on the full piece, the paiting is lagging. its only a 1gz p2 with 500mb ram. what would i give for a box. pwahaaha.
everything got a bit slower never the less i am happy i can work, having fun and thats what i wish you all as well.

03 March 2006, 08:01 PM
Hi there Sacha , just droppin' by to drool a little !

And I do , I do... eww .... azqswexdcrfvgtbhynjk <-- *wipes keyboard* :D

Gorgeous work mate !! I do wait for that bigger update !

cheers ,

03 March 2006, 09:13 PM
Hey, Sacha, sorry I haven't been dropping by more frequently. Things are loking great (well, except fo that shot on the beach! ;-) ) I like the expression on the Dwarf's face. Well, all of their faces, really. It's coming along nicely, and I wish I had something more intelligent to add than all that. Oh, well.. just keep it coming!

03 March 2006, 02:07 AM (

more details resized heros, towers over the gate reduced to 2. a few more houses sketched up, tweaks on values anf approaching 1 step further the look i want for the town, also, rougly continued the define the costumes. of course this still is far from being finished, but i think i made a few more steps towards the direction where the mainscene is supposed to end.

03 March 2006, 03:56 AM
WoW! there's many story line, meaning and detail in this piece.
Good work as always, keep it up CHEERS!

03 March 2006, 04:53 AM
like the flowergirl... and think that the gate is really taking shape... and I really getting found of the dwarf... :p but so far, no fur... hmmm

you go Sacha... let you little ol´computer work... :bounce:

03 March 2006, 07:40 AM
Wow, this is coming along nicely. Beautiful work!

03 March 2006, 08:35 AM
Nice update sacha! U still gonna put these characters faces at the top of the compo? Or u gonna do away with them, Still strong image without them!

03 March 2006, 09:25 AM
Hey Sacha,

Thanks so much for your kind words on both my entries... I've been sleeping on updates but there will be more soon.

BTW, really nice camera angle you got going on your last update. Im heavy into scenematic composition and the angle you chose is absolutely perfect. It looks like youre still coming along with your sketching but even at this stage it looks pretty solid. Nice job overall, and I have to say that your image is one I would also agree as one of the strongest Ive seen so far. Keep at it - J
