I love your background texture. Can we expect more of this kind of brushwork of yours? I hope so.

03 March 2006, 09:21 PM
Yeah sure. Thanks JTD for your opinion. :scream:
I really like that kind of ink painting so now I'm working in new backgrounds and some characters.
Comments are welcome.

03 March 2006, 09:35 PM
Hi there,

Why don't you continue? It's a beautifull start. Reminds me a bit on ancient japanese colors and brushing. Can't wait to see more...

Best regards and big respect

Thanks Tuck.
Khan: Hi Thanks, I don't have much time but I'm still drawing and working.
Check this soon.

03 March 2006, 11:27 PM (

Ok some quickly details, trying with different kinds of landscapes.

03 March 2006, 12:54 AM
i didn't think it would work until i actually saw it. but having the main character as a small silouette on the horizon really makes the landscape the main character and BLOWS MY MIND, MAN!!! it's like how "if" is the middle word in "life", man. sorry, i'm channeling dennis hopper from apocolypse now.

seriously, though. this composition is really stunning. i hope you can keep the simplicity in it and the power that it has now. even if you don't choose to make this your submission, i think you should finish it. it's a really strong piece.

03 March 2006, 07:38 PM
Anzibon: Thanks for the opinion, I really like your idea. Maybe I change the character to create a better feeling of journey but I don't know yet. I want to keep a simple image, thanks again and good luck in the challenge.

03 March 2006, 09:24 PM (

Just more details and color tests. I add a smaller character to create a "grand" landscape.
Critics are welcome.

03 March 2006, 09:53 PM
Hey snowan!!

Very interesting work... i love the feeling and the moviment of the scene
I will see this topic every upload ^^

Strong idea

03 March 2006, 02:58 AM
Looks interesting! It's up to your BG beyond that man, if ya can make it far far away this piece will be GRAND for sure!

03 March 2006, 06:50 AM
Wow such a cool idea.
This is going to be a really strong image.

03 March 2006, 07:40 PM
Thanks Idgree, FIDUCIOSE and Womgoose. Now I'm doing some changes like the color and light. I think it looks too empty, I need to add more elements. Check this soon!

03 March 2006, 08:32 PM
as others said "strong image" , i cant find a better way to describe it:scream:

it looks really cool! keep it coming i cant imagine what can you do on this one it will be hard but i think you will do a great artwork here.:D

peace and good luck

03 March 2006, 07:00 PM (

More depth and changes.
Individium: Thank you, yeah it will be complicated but lets see later.

03 March 2006, 03:49 AM (

I changed the sky color (just a little), I think it looks better.
Critics welcome, see you later.

03 March 2006, 06:30 PM (

I want to add this drawing to the principal image. I'm trying to create some kind of atmosphere. Hope you like it.

03 March 2006, 08:13 PM
I love mood and all these curves you have there. it looks realy huge and pretty full of emotions. love it, if you keep it up, it's gonna be one adorable painting

03 March 2006, 07:21 PM
Thanks elgrozni, I will try to keep that simplicity and style. Thanks again. See you...

03 March 2006, 07:30 PM
Hola Leonardo, la cosa tiene muy buena pinta. Me encantan las curvas y la fuerza que se desprende de la composición.
Keep it up, man!

03 March 2006, 03:42 AM
Really love ya piece! simply but exotic. Really love your element especially when saw in close up detail.

03 March 2006, 07:25 PM
Nigio: Gracias por tu opinion, que bien que te a gustado. Se me ha hecho un poco dificil trabajar en este dibujo pero espero terminarlo bien.

FIDUCIOSE: Thanks again for the opinion. Check this soon!

04 April 2006, 11:28 PM

04 April 2006, 01:22 AM

04 April 2006, 02:12 AM
that last update is an artwork by itself! i just want to print it on canvas and put it on my wall.

Beautiful brushwork man! simply stunning.

04 April 2006, 02:28 AM
that close up made me drool a little.

so glad you've stayed with this concept and the direction your going now is better than i had hoped. i'm definately downloading your hi res final for my viewing pleasure.

04 April 2006, 04:43 AM
Wow, thanks very much guys for the reply, :scream: I really like that comments.

Rooma: I hope you like the new advances.
Steampunk: Thanks again!
mutedOracle: That sounds great!
anzibon: hehe, I don't know if it looks like a real journey but lets see what happen next.

04 April 2006, 12:35 AM (

Just working in some details like the small mountain in the right side. What do you think??

04 April 2006, 01:23 AM (

I took a new "direction" moving the mountain from the right and taking away a part of the drawing.

04 April 2006, 01:28 PM
interesting start :)
as others have said it is a very "arty" picture...looks a little more serious that the comic/ hollywood themes that others are making...
cant wait to see where it goes :)

04 April 2006, 11:35 PM
Cyberone: Thanks for stopping here, glad you like my image. Your drawing also looks very artistic, I'll check it latter. :scream:

04 April 2006, 05:38 PM (

Now I'm working in the mountain texture and color, then I want to add some elements to the ground like stone or something like that. Critics are welcome.

04 April 2006, 06:55 AM
I'm liking your style very much! Keep it up!

04 April 2006, 08:37 PM
Hey Mason thanks for the opinion!

04 April 2006, 08:50 PM (

I couldn't send new entries these weeks but this is my last advance. I add more contrast and now I'm working in the floor texture and color. Hope you like it, critics are welcome.

04 April 2006, 09:03 PM
Wow, nice stuff  Nicely painted hill on the right and that guy in the distance.
Not sure about two things:

-this browness in the bottom-right of the picture though.. is it fog or something? Because it works kinda unfinished like this, since brushstrokes are visible. I think you should either render it in the same way as you did the hill on the right, or clear it up and make it more like fog or something.

In the very top-right corner of the painting silhuete of the hill seems a bit bloury... You should sharpen it a bit...

Nice progress.. still like the courves you have there :D

05 May 2006, 01:49 AM
Thanks elgrozni, the bottom-right of the picture is not finished yet, I want to add texture (like the other hills) and clear it up as you say. Yeah you are right about the top-right corner, I will change it.
Thanks again for your opinion, very useful. Hope you like the advances, check this soon.

05 May 2006, 07:01 PM (

Just some background details.
Check this soon.

05 May 2006, 04:09 PM
hi very nice work again yet feels like unfinished yet it looks more finished when grayish and better that way in my opinion and figure needs some work i think, maybe a better understandable stance.
your work is has the most different style around cg i dont know if it will be good for the result but i loved your style.
this picture can be great as an oilcolor, as a watercolor and as an etching also.

05 May 2006, 01:10 AM
individium: Thank you for the opinion, I now it looks unfinished and I'm working on that (I think the gray drawing looks too simple). About the figure I will try more different stances.
I'm agree with you about if it will be a good drawing for the challenge topic because don't looks like the beginning of a jouney....anyway, I just want to finish it. Thanks again!!

05 May 2006, 11:51 PM (

More details like the right hill in the corner. Now Im working in the color, the ground and the character posture.
Just 23 days, very close to the end.
Check this latter.

05 May 2006, 03:41 AM
Hey Leonardo, beautiful colors! Really, very, very much like the shapes of your clouds and mountains...especially the one reaching up into the sky on the left.

Good luck!

05 May 2006, 06:29 PM
Hey Eric thanks very much. I saw your challenge image and also looks great, specially for the clouds. See you later.

05 May 2006, 10:40 PM (

These are some quickly changes in the character, just looking for a better human figure, more distinguished.

05 May 2006, 01:44 AM (

Now I'm working in the mountain texture and color, then I want to add some elements to the ground like stone or something like that. Critics are welcome.

I think this is your best post so far. adding details into the rock is OK. but i would not loose this beautiful grey mist. and the figure of the man is just fine. go with your first instinct. he should, imho, be almost a part of the landscape. if someone wants to think that isn't a person then i'm sure they have their reasons. :)

great stuff.
hope you don't mind if i have the final printed and framed for my apartment.

rock on,

05 May 2006, 07:20 PM
Thanks very much for the comment anzibon, I'm glad you like it. Very useful opinion, I think you are right about keeping some simplicity and also the character. I will mix the last image and your selection to see what happen and more color tests. Thanks again and hope you like my final image.

05 May 2006, 07:45 PM (

More advances and changes like the ground. I think now looks better than the last drawing and the Anzibon choice but I'm not sure yet. I will add more contrast or just more "sunshine light" on the hills.
For the moment it's almost finished.
Critics are welcome. Check it soon.

05 May 2006, 08:21 PM
I really like this painting but to me it maybe looks a bit unfinished in the sky. Are you planning on leaving the pencils in there or adding any color? Looks fantastic otherwise. The foregrond is nice!

05 May 2006, 07:26 PM
anticz: Thanks for the opinion!
Probably I will keep the current sky, maybe more color but until now I think that looks "suitable" for the image. See you later.

05 May 2006, 07:41 PM (

It's almost finished, for the moment this is my final image but I will wait a few days to be sure that there is no more changes.
Hope you like it. Comments are welcome.

05 May 2006, 06:29 PM (

Ok this is my final image. Thanks to everybody and hope you like it.
Critics and comments are welcome.

06 June 2006, 09:23 AM
Hi man, i really like your illustrative/stylistic approach, i think you have a strong image and wish you good luck. I also liked your work in your portfolio:thumbsup:

06 June 2006, 11:14 AM
love it, man. i still really like the play of grey on brown from the previous one and i think it played a little more with nagative space. (pure opinion, there is no right answer) but i think what you've come up with is outstanding on all accounts.

now tell me. be honest. did you grab any of that texture out of photos or a 3D app or is that all painted? it looks great either way, but man. that's some sick texture. :applause:

congrats on the big finish,

06 June 2006, 05:23 PM
hhssuu: Thanks for the opinion. I'm glad you like it.

anzibon: Thank you again. Heh to be honest I used some photo textures for the hills, specially the right hill in the corner. This is one of my first photoshop images so I'm not very good yet.
See you later. :scream:

06 June 2006, 07:48 AM
looks outstanding to me. i bet you learned a ton doing it.
i know i did. i think your shop skills are doin just fine.

06 June 2006, 12:19 PM
wow I'm sorry I've never seen this thread before! Really nice work snowan. I love the vast landscape and that you went with the small character. It definately makes the piece feel epic. It seem like he's looking back on the landscape and thinking, very cool ^^.

I especially like the painting in the sky. Did you archive that with ink? I love the shapes of them!! Anyways man, the best of luck in the chalange :) .

06 June 2006, 07:42 PM
anzibon: Yeah this challenge was very helpful, can't wait for the next one. Now I need to work in new drawings to improve more hehe. Your challenge entry also looks great and the story is better.

Sourgrapes: Thanks very much. The sky was done with pencil and I did some color adjustments. I saw your Portfolio and it looks very good, I really like it.

06 June 2006, 10:07 AM
congratulations leonardo!

your final image is great and i dont have much to say cause i've said all before now it looks finished of course:)
you solved the only problem in the picture and made a great final image.

but i'd like to now the story too (the only missing thing)

good luck with judging

06 June 2006, 06:50 PM
Hey individium thanks, I will write the story later in this thread, for the moment this is the idea:
The story is about a man who travel without any direction and destination along strange lands that seems to be living, and the character slowly becomes part of the landscape.
Hope you like it.
