Latest Update: Coloring WIP: some lightning... (

02 February 2006, 09:22 PM
Hi all, and welcome to my battle thread ;)

I don't have any concrete idea for the challenge. I've tried to "invent" sth, but I don't have any interesting thing that I could paint. For now I've got three conceptions for the Challenge theme explication:

1) Space-shuttle start (hmm... too normal? )
2) Pirate ship loading
3) Moment of death - woman laying dead on a bed ( :D ), and a spirit leaving the body. Prapobly side-wiev.

I'd really like to make sth wicked, so I'll try to think about other idea.

Wish me luck ;)

Hi Pawel :)

Nice conceptions

I am looking forward to seeing more of your work
Good luck and have fun:thumbsup:
(trzecia moze byc porazajaca, hehe, tez o tym myslalem - powodzenia)

First Line art. I've changed my conception to a snail looking for some food. Few centimeters is not a big distance for human, but it means some hours of "walking" for a snail.

Hope you'll like it ;)

03 March 2006, 06:25 PM (

Some color. I'm not happy of the effect at all, so I'll try to change perspective soon. Especially foreground will change.

03 March 2006, 06:28 PM
nice. different from rest.. will watch your progress

03 March 2006, 05:01 AM
luv it.

i want to see more of what's catching his eye. until i saw the diagram i took it as a more wistful staring into space thing. is this his untimate destination or a goal on the way?

great idea for a character,

03 March 2006, 05:25 AM
Nice concept!
My snails are happy that they are not alone!
Snails race start :)
Good luck with your idea:thumbsup:

03 March 2006, 01:00 PM (

Another camera view. I think that I will stay on this. I've used some referals found on google and, but many things will change at all.

anzibon - propably it is the ultimate destination. But, who knows? maybe snail is hungrier than he looks ? :D

03 March 2006, 02:04 PM (

And some colors. Final image will look like this, but it will have muuuuuuuch more details 8)

Hope you like it ;)

03 March 2006, 02:41 PM
:D I love the lighting...

he looks evil :D

03 March 2006, 05:58 PM
Great light and warm atmosphere. Keep us updated. I'll be watching You. ;)

03 March 2006, 03:20 PM (

I've decided to not paint branch. Everything will be placed on the ground. Snail will leave tasty grass to find out how mushrooms taste. Maybe I'll add some snail-opponent on the mushroom, or a mushroom-picker hand going to pick up snails dinner.

comments are welcome.

hah, second challenge, and a mushroom! again! :D

03 March 2006, 04:52 PM
Just remember sticking to the topic ;)

03 March 2006, 05:01 PM

03 March 2006, 08:09 PM

great sketches , good luck :)

03 March 2006, 12:32 PM
Nice to see you, mate. Love colours- great palette (as always should I say). Good luck and two thubs up.

03 March 2006, 03:22 PM (

I've added some foliage and initial lightning. Soon I'll start to texture snail 8)

03 March 2006, 01:44 AM
snail power!
Good start, keep the great work going on. Good luck

03 March 2006, 02:13 PM (

I've decided, that a snail doesn't fit to the "journey begin" conception at all.

I've got new idea - little girl looks into the mirror and sees other world (just like Alice :D ) - she is so fascinated with the colours, that she decides to visit this weird place.

nothing special, but I'll try to redress it with colours and details.

03 March 2006, 03:23 PM (

and some more detailed work 8)

comments are welcome.

03 March 2006, 04:10 PM (

I've added some initial color. I'd like to finish this painting as soon as it's possible, because I don't have much free time :/

looking for comments ;)

03 March 2006, 04:20 PM
cool idea...

i hope you keep the mossy and damp feel...

cant wait to see how it progresses

03 March 2006, 06:57 PM (

Some details and lights added (especially on the trees) :)

03 March 2006, 12:05 PM (

I' still fighting with trees. Bark is the most haten forest/foliage thing for me :D I think that whole image will take more work that I tought :/

Hope that next update will give much more changes :) Keep thumbs for me ;)

03 March 2006, 09:17 AM
Hehe, another mirror concept! :D. This looks great man, I like you'r textures - what kind of brush are you using?

03 March 2006, 01:19 PM
This is not only a brush. It's some kind of technique, which gives me a textured-brush effect. How I did it? It's quite simple ;)

1) I made a "foliage brush". Just like this:

2) In use of this brush I made some mossy texture (it was made for underwater plants at all, but it seems that it's universal ;))

(it's only a piece of a whole testure. It looks better when you will colorize and brighten it)

3) I've defined this texture as a pattern. Then I've made a textured layer (pattern overlay in layer style).

4) Whole effect is taken by painting in use of this brush:

5) Example effect:

nothing special ;)

03 March 2006, 06:06 PM (

Additional details :> I've also changed contrast. I think it's more realistic now.

Soon more updates ;)

03 March 2006, 07:48 PM
Thanks for the "how-to". :) Your forest is superbly detailed.

03 March 2006, 12:21 PM

mhmmm it's very similar and I don't know if it's a matter of chance, but well I hope you didn't dare copying the original one

03 March 2006, 01:08 PM
lol, you're trying to disqualificate me, or what ?

It is similar to Mime's picture, because I'm using it as a ref. I really want to get similar mood, but I'm not copying it. LoL, how could you think like that ? :D

My image will be done in the same style, with similar mood and lightning - but just because I love this picture. Don't forget, that I'm going to make sth like a forest in the "Alice in the wonderworld", so there will be some flowers also.

I really don't know what were you trying to reach by this post ;)

03 March 2006, 01:56 PM
dont worry Drakula i think its doesnt look anything like the other picture...its like 100% problems!

and by the way im loving the new details in the back of the picture...its given it a little more depth...a little for for your guy to explore...great work on the textures too...

its really turing into a great painting!!

03 March 2006, 03:51 PM (

And some dirty planning.

I decided to change tree placement. Hope it will be better ;)

Red ribbon added for a test. I think it will make this picture more mysterious and bouncing. Red firm fits to everything ;)

03 March 2006, 08:30 PM
It starts looking interesting to me. Powodzenia!

03 March 2006, 07:15 AM
nice background

03 March 2006, 05:12 PM (

Hmm.. I decided to change camera view. I promise this will be the last change of view in this challenge ;)

hope you'll like it. Comments are welcome.

03 March 2006, 05:55 PM
very impressing the way you use textures.

IŽd like to see the two last concepts combined. I like the rocks but you loose much of the depth and atmosphere with a wall covering the whole canvas.

Good luck

03 March 2006, 06:56 PM
I'm diggin' the rock dark, yet so accurate! Awesome work...can hardly wait to see it finished.

04 April 2006, 08:52 AM (

Some lightning added. Kid based on a reference taken from google.

04 April 2006, 09:56 AM
Nice I like this alot more than the previous concept keep rocking it!

04 April 2006, 01:08 PM
i like them both but the second its i have to admit alot more dynamic and interesting :)
the rocks were a really good idea to add some interest to the picture and as everybody is saying the textures are really cool :0

the new lighting is also a really good start :)

cant wait to see more on this version.
