HI Blaz !
I welcome you on new Challenge!
03-01-2006, 03:59 PM
many thnx to all of u ppl, for such a warm welcome! :)
And now to the first concept... I was thinking about fairytale characters migrating from our world/imagination, coz we (adults) stoped believing in them.. so they r looking for a differnt place to live.. maybe they r leaving from an adult person, and r searching a child to settle in his mind/beliefs.
Donno exactly how would this concept look like, but what do u think of a story???
03-01-2006, 04:03 PM
yo bla wasuup..where is da concept??? :bounce:
03-01-2006, 04:16 PM
welcome, blaz! glad to see you joining :)

best luck Blaz, nice to challenge side of you and your work!
03-12-2006, 07:16 PM
this is how will I start this challenge.. kids right after the school went to the nearest stream and put into the water their small boat they made. and the journey begins down the stream..
03-12-2006, 07:17 PM
nothing wrong wit that at all.. love it. unique idea and nice style... coud be a line art!
03-12-2006, 07:25 PM
Ahhh...I love this...so cute and I can just imagine it wonderfully detailed with great colors and all. Please do this one!
03-12-2006, 07:34 PM
So it begins  I love the idea, sooo adorable and lovely, hope you'll stick with this one :D
very nice sketch! i like it
03-12-2006, 08:54 PM
ahh finally some progress from the ninja!
will be keeping track!
03-12-2006, 08:56 PM
Hey! Nice to see you've started something... You could put an ant or something on the boat. I remember doing stuff like that as the cruel child i was :p haha! Its fun to see your doing something with a more stylized approach than before, it'll be interesting... Hope to see more soon! Later..
03-12-2006, 10:05 PM
W!L: it could be lineart as well, but as its just a first idea let it be a sketch :) I think I'll develop this a bit further and also try to get some other ideas for this theme.. after all the challenge just started. thnx for stoping by!
paperclip: Im glad u like it! thnx, and if I'll go with this one there will sure be lots of details.
elgrozni: hi buddy! and thnx, I'll see about sticking to this one, coz there is soooo much time :) but its nice to see ppl like the idea.
Vahn: thnx man!
ragdoll: hehe, finally yea! Im glad I started doing something as well. thnx!
FrozZT: I was thinking of puting a small animal into the boat as well (a mouse, an ant...) but later than I realized that everybody in this challenge r drawing small cudly animals so I didnt want to blend into the croud. If I'll stick with this theme I'll leave the boat emty and a main "character" of the pic as it is. thnx for stoping by!
03-12-2006, 10:21 PM
Nice idea! I like faces a lot :)
03-13-2006, 01:43 AM
Hey, nice idea ,and there is a brand new style that u made so far, nice characters as well
keep it up mate
03-13-2006, 02:32 AM
u've started at last~pretty cool for the 1st idea~i see ur going with a different approach here~awaiting for more:thumbsup:
03-13-2006, 05:57 AM
Good to see you work again Blaz. I always enjoy watching you develop an image. Good luck. I like this concept.
03-13-2006, 09:50 AM
03-13-2006, 09:59 AM
very original idea and lovely characters design, have fun
03-14-2006, 06:59 AM
Man, this one is great concept! Itīs kinda dreamy (donīt know if the word exists, hehe...)!
What i mean is, there is poetry on this one. I know itīs a first idea, but a great idea in deed. Think well about using this one for the final image!
03-14-2006, 08:38 AM
nice sketch dude
03-14-2006, 11:04 AM
If you do decide to give the boat a passenger, perhaps they could be looking concerned at the 'rapids' ahead!. Nice to see you Blaz. I'll come and see your thread again - once you've taken off your xmas hat :)
03-14-2006, 02:15 PM
Hi, Blaz! Looking good! I like the concept: It's original, and having been a little boy once I can totally relate! :) And I don't think you need anyone/thing on the boat: It's making its own voyage. If you're still concepting, it would be nice to see more ways to show that the boys just released the boat: Hands spread apart? Waving goodbye? Dusting the mud off of the hands? Just to show that they're not just innocent bystanders who happen to be watching this pass by...
Anyhow, good luck with it!
03-14-2006, 02:41 PM
Very nice concept! Can't wait for the coloring wip!
[OT] Maybe 'cause I knew I'm going to become an aunt for the first time,
I love a bit more everything about kids! :D :D [OT]

03-30-2006, 03:48 PM
my new concept about a flea going to a sea side for a holidays, hitchhiking a dog :) and sorry for not stoping by for such a long time here or in ur threads.. its been a really busy time :/
03-30-2006, 03:50 PM
haha, what a cute concept
only crit is that i would really like to see the flea's face, because he could be such a great character
03-30-2006, 05:56 PM
mwahahah! The dog is coool!!:D Perhaps Iīd increase the angle and size of the main flea but itīs an excellent idea Blaz =)
03-30-2006, 06:06 PM
priceless :scream: ! hahaha, love the sketch!
03-31-2006, 08:39 AM
Yep, Nice idea Blaz, It will be interesting to see this get taken to final!
03-31-2006, 01:06 PM

03-31-2006, 02:11 PM
Has really made laugh:) it is class! - continue!!

04-01-2006, 10:04 AM

very nice scetches..the DOG one is soooo funny and soo clever....good idea....hope to see more of you ....keep uploading:thumbsup:
04-01-2006, 10:11 AM
Excellent idea Blaz
Perspective is great and the look on the dog is priceless.
I think that this also show the large proportions of the landscape and dog against small bug which is the whole point of the challenge..
Good luck keep it up :)
04-05-2006, 01:19 PM
so....long time no update....lol
just dropping in to check the progress :)
i still vote for the dog :)
looking forward to more....
04-05-2006, 07:02 PM
This is my next step... for now Im sticking to the hitchhiking concept, so here is a start to develop a characters.. a dog, a flea, and a fleas pet. Replies to u great ppl that r sticking at my thread, r coming very soon! Thnx so far!
04-05-2006, 07:40 PM
It's such a funny dog!! :applause: And I like that flea to, it looks alot more like a flea now  Can't wait to see more!
04-05-2006, 09:01 PM
in your line art, (which is just awesome) , the flea looks really sweet, kind of like a flea with an evil temper , or something . real nice shading as well !
04-05-2006, 09:23 PM
What a beautiful line! And what a funny flea! Congratulations, you hit the spot with this one.
I want to see colours.
04-05-2006, 10:07 PM
Great sketch Blaz
Love the flea character- really unusual idea and love the latest developments.
keep up the great work :)
04-05-2006, 10:33 PM
gigantron2999: the crit about the fleas face being seen has been granted :) I'll change a bit its position, so the flea will be rotated to the viewer. thnx for a suggestion!
GonzaloGolpe: thnx buddy! I'll see what I'll do with the size of the flea in the final composition. I'll have in mind to bigger its size.
Cyberone: thank u :) I'll try keep it up!
LexLe: Im working on that flea to be more recognazible.. I hope that the latest concept looks better? thnx for stopping by mate!
kmest: thank u for such a warm welcome! I'll most probably stay with that dog concept, coz it seems everybody likes it :)
Falcor_: thnx buddy! Is the dogs face still ok now that its more caroon like? I hope I didnt loose that expression u mentioned it?
hexrex: thnx! Im quite satisfied with the flea concwpt as well.. kind of says what I wanted it to say.. it was a hard job though.
Nigio: Im most happy that u like it :) thnx!
MrFreeman: hi buddy! thnx for the support!
TheFirstAngel, beelow, elgrozni: and thnx very much for ur kind words as well.. they mean a lot to me :) stay in touch!
04-05-2006, 11:01 PM
Great sketch, Blaz. That face is wonderful. The body still feels imaciated to me, lacking muscles... Kind of like a real head stuck on a stick-figure body. I guess the blood-sucking fleas have taken this particular ride before! :D
Good luck with it!
04-05-2006, 11:53 PM
crazy amazing work Blaz!! funny and impressive!! :bounce: congrats!
04-06-2006, 05:32 AM
Concept has very much liked, it is visible character of the character-dog :)
Drawing at the big level.. I Look forward to continuation!
I still in searches of idea
04-07-2006, 03:50 PM
Now that you made the dog cartoony and eyes different sizes it feels crazier :) Works fine though. Its up to you if you want to use more realistic dog from the previous one or this one.
Realism |or| Cartoony take your pick
04-07-2006, 08:00 PM
:) Super dog ,such unique but such homely. Also with temperament :)
Amazing scetch ! :)
04-08-2006, 11:01 AM
A new lineart, this time for a Flea and its Pet in the pose that will probably be in the finnal composition. This way the face is seen, so its more personal and we can see emotions of the main characters.
ahahahha! 1 word "awesome"
04-08-2006, 08:07 PM
Wicked man!!! Just bloddy wicked  Great style as well :D
04-08-2006, 10:27 PM
I really like the color temperature in this one, the flea-pet ( :D ) and I must :applause: your great sketching style. I wish I could sketch like that!
04-09-2006, 12:12 PM
What's up dude!! Nice stuff so far! :arteest:
04-10-2006, 11:43 AM
very cool your idea of the fleaīs holiday!! good humoured and great style up to now! good luck!
04-11-2006, 03:54 PM
Wow Blaz, how'd I miss your thread?? What a fantastic idea, and very well executed... i love the perspective on the dog. And oh my, that flea's pet is just beyond adorable... amazing how cute a blob with feelers and two diddy eyes can be! Gorgeous stuff all round, can't wait to see it in progress!
04-12-2006, 01:25 AM
Funny good sketch the little pet. Well I haven't see you from a long time and I'm going to crit !! Damn.. I think you are too close of the banner of this challenge with this last one, no ?
04-13-2006, 09:01 AM
Very good sketch!
Character of a flea is transferred very well! :)
Very much it is pleasant to me.... wait impatience Lineart
Yours faithfully LexLe
04-13-2006, 02:32 PM
ooops ! I haven't see all your sketches, only the last one, damn me, shame on me, damn damn ..sorry blaz.
Well now I have to say you've got a great concept, and very good sketches, the camera focus is very interesting, go on friend ;)
04-20-2006, 06:40 PM
Very good idea! Very cheerfully! Bravo!
And sketches are magnificent!
04-20-2006, 09:07 PM
Hi there, buddy,
Needless to say, I like your basic concept and the character development. Wish you luck (I doubt you'd need it, though, as the illustration is obviously going to end up great). I'll be back later - maybe with a more useful comment or two.
04-26-2006, 07:53 PM
error post.. sorry
04-26-2006, 07:55 PM
I posted same pic as before by mistake :/ this time is the right update..
I didnt update my thread for a long long time now. I wasnt replying to ur threads neither, for which Im very sorry and I hope I'll be fully back in game soon. This is an update I did in last couple of hours.. A black and white tone scheme, to make sure everything will work fine in the pic. And some element changes in the composition (bigger flea and its little pet in the first plan, a bit different dogs head position, and a traffic behind the dog for some action and dynamic). More to come soon. Best regards to everyone!
04-26-2006, 10:36 PM
the flea and its pet r finished as well.. and now im going to search for some mistakes to correct before i go to the real color stage. good night ppl :)
04-27-2006, 07:02 AM
Really nice perspective! Nice tones aswell, good luck!
04-27-2006, 10:06 AM
Very nice concept and realisation, good pic, i wait the next update:thumbsup:
04-27-2006, 10:59 AM
cool! keep it up!
04-27-2006, 12:22 PM
first color scheme test.. I also put some new elements in the pic (mountains, smoke...) but I have that strange feeling that something is still missing.. thnx for all the comments folx! :)
04-27-2006, 12:47 PM
Nice work Blaz,
Funny concept, well drawn and I really like the scewed perspective.
You might need to balance the composition a bit though. Itīs very empty in the top half, left of the dog. You just need something to break off that big bright area.
Great work this far, good luck!
04-27-2006, 12:53 PM
Norberg: u r right. Im thinking now about adding some clouds there (maybe just more interesting clouds), a plane maybe (right now its just a line that plane left), some leafs that were blown up by the wind that rushing cars r making.. thnx for pointing that out :)
04-27-2006, 02:42 PM
Hey dude, maybe a forest on the left could do the job
04-27-2006, 03:15 PM
Hi there Ninja!
Really nice perspective and excellent idea!!ha,ha
yehh,or maybe some kind of little roadhotel for this kind of insects(dont know their name in english)on the left(the motel he just has left) could be fun to fill up the halftop left...
Sunflowers, for some color or a picknick table like you see sometimes along the road,...
04-27-2006, 03:30 PM
Wahahaha, I love this! The dog looks so clueless yet adorable! Very good job on that! By the way, I agree with the others that the top of the bug looks empty and needs some suitable filling. How about a dustbin full to the brim with rubbish? In the far distance, some suburban houses? A plane and love birds flying overhead? The fish eye perspective is a nice touch. Is the passing vehicle (in motion blur) a lorry?
The highlights at the underside of the Bug, I think it shouldn't be there because the sun is at the top not directly in front of it..
Keep it up, Blaz and looking forward to your next update!
04-27-2006, 05:58 PM
Fast progress, man! I like the motion-bloured cars - they realy emphasize the feeling of being trapped in a moment. Agree with others - add something in the top left... what do you say about a storm clouds... ?
04-27-2006, 06:24 PM
I love this :) Keep it up man. No crits, except for what's been mentioned by Norberg.
04-27-2006, 06:54 PM
awesome man! i love the dogs expression so far =) looks grea,t totally your style too. if you think something is missing, id say behind the bug it seems a little empty, why not add like a little "bug bus stop" or some little buildings in the back,. more mountians etc?
but anyways, awesome!
04-28-2006, 03:24 PM
taz23: thnx for suggestion.. But I dont wanna to fill that space too much. Trees in the back as some dark silhuette could destroy some of details in the front. I guess.
OKMER: nice idea with sunflowers.. they r thin but tall.. I'll have that in mind :) thnx!
jeromoo: its not a lorry, but its not defined what it is yet also. There will be some cars with luggage boxes on their roofs. But they will stay blury as they r now, coz they r not so much impoortant for the whole image.. just to give an impression of a rush hour. planes and birds will probably appear in the image yes, dustbin or even dustbin bag is a great idea as well. I'll see what fits best into that place. And thnx for pointing out about the light under the bug... its just that looks so fine :D thnx for stopping by!
elgrozni: yea, the time is coming to an end, so I better be fast :) I dont wanna paint storm clouds, even if they would be a good element to fill the sky with, but this is a trip to the sea, so it must be sunny weather. thnx for poping into my thread again!
ahbeejieh: thnx man! :)
adonihs: that blue dog sign behind the flea is a bug station sign :) I was thinking about all that.. buildings, mountains, but everything fills too much that space and make it hard to read, so I'll put there something for sure, Im just not so sure what will that be. But I have some ideas. Thnx for stopping by!
Some ideas to put behind the bug, to fill that space:
04-28-2006, 04:38 PM
Very good painting, the angle of vision is terrible, good work
04-28-2006, 06:23 PM
I think I figured out what might be your problem- the dog, when you look at him, appears to be the subject of a fisheye lens, which is great and fine in itself, but when you look at the rest of the landscape, parts are in fisheye and parts aren't distorted, so the whole thing is sort of thrown off....if you get my meaning?
Great colors though!
04-28-2006, 06:39 PM
ooo dude some flowers would look nice! try that man, maybe even if theyre not fully engrossed by us, but it does add some nature elements to it, none the less a kick asss image!
05-02-2006, 07:36 PM
A really unexpected style from your part. At least one that I wouldn't expect!
Can't really bring up any idea at this moment for your BG fill-up...
But as I saw your subject... I thought you may have some use with these (If nothing as for influences for his little pet :) );
You can find much more of this kind of material on a fantastic site dedicated to
(Even has an English version! )
For this particular specimen you would have to browse through to the Sphonapetra which is under Insects that you should be able to find under Zoology.
I thought that with the scale you are looking at things... these can influence some aditional ideas.
The whole composition is VERY cute!
05-02-2006, 08:50 PM
It looks really nice, I look forward to the next step. Good luck.
05-02-2006, 10:12 PM
I like this concept a lot ! Very funny and the style is great. Go on in this way !
wow... nice coloring... you're progressing fast :)
I think telegraph poles would fill the emptyness on the left just fine!
keep it up
05-03-2006, 09:26 AM
Hi Blaz, this is look fab! I love your colour choices so far, the sky and the left hand side of the image look touchably real, and the hitch hiker is adorable! It's kinda hard to tell whats going on on the right behind the dog right now, but I'm guessing it will be streams of traffic!
The dog is coming together nicely, though, even for the distorted fish eye lens effect, his back legs make him look like he's about to topple over. Just shifting the back right leg (as we look) might help stabilise him. But he's fantasticaly well done, I admire the fact you've got to grips with the camera distortion so well and still having him recognisable as a dog, and one that's full of character at that.
Can't wait to see how this progresses!

this is looking great. Is that a head from another bug in the bottom left? Maybe it to too close the the edge of the composition? Looks a bit cut off. anyway, other than that tiny nit pick, this is brilliant. Good luck

I'd suggest to adjust the look of the sky elements as they don't follow the fish-eye look and feel of the other elements of the scene. Take a look at some fish-eye photographs featuring large areas of partly cloudy sky: you'd probably notice that sun appears as a tiny point or even just a star-shaped flare with slightly curved longer rays, instead of a large circle/globe - and the clouds are usually sharp and well defined (as opposed to using a normal or a telephoto lens). I know you're not aiming at some ultra-high-photorealism here - but the skies as they are now are partly ruining the otherwise excellent fish-eye effect.
Also, a much darker blue tone of the high skies, with much more contrast between the sky and the white clouds might add to the "fish-eye" feeling and would definitily increase the dramatic sensation in an observer.
Can't wait to see the next step(s).

maybe the main character could be a little closer to the camera - so he's a bit more prommenant in the composition ?
other than that absolutely wicked! excellent characters and theme.

First of all, once again thnx a lot for all ur great comments and critiques. Some of suggestions u pointed out would really help! But Im not sure anymore if I can finish this piece in time :/ Im really short on time, I have to finish the school and all the other payed projects, so Im just not sure anymore how to continuing here. I think I still have a week or so of work on the image and thats a lot comparing the time I have left till the deadline. Ok, enough of whining... I wish to all of u good time and lots of luck and great final images. If I dont make it in time, I'll finish it later than and submit it to the finished image gallery.
hey blaz to redeem myself from the inevitable title of being the worst visitor of all time i decided to stop by and check out your thread fully. nothing to crit but to let you know that you should finish. soon :wip:.
