03 March 2006, 05:02 PM
Thanks for the welcome and encouraging words:) Still playing around with ideas, meanwhile I'm not getting any of my real work done at all
But oh well! :)
03 March 2006, 07:30 PM
I like the expression you got on the turtle. My 3yr loves the concept. (note she doesn't normal like anything thats black and white) We are looking forward to seeing anything you do.
03 March 2006, 07:36 PM
the turtle is :applause: his expression is perfect
03 March 2006, 07:53 PM
haha, that turtle looks absolutely petrified. Just describes me in this challenge. :P
03 March 2006, 08:22 PM
Ripples: Give your daughter a hug from me! She's obviously a very well tourned out young lady :wavey: :p
Ego: me n'all!
03 March 2006, 08:29 PM
Sweet sketch, I loved the character too. Good luck.
03 March 2006, 09:35 PM
Interesting and sympathetic turtle... so curious to discover more... best wishes in your challenge Carina
03 March 2006, 07:23 AM
Great start. I personally like the quest idea more then the race idea. Although I like the turtle more then the mouse.
03 March 2006, 08:07 AM
as mona said the turtle's expression is everything looking att her reflection on the water :D great concept Carina
03 March 2006, 09:32 AM
More doodling. Walking the dog this morning had me playing with this.
03 March 2006, 09:36 AM
LOL! That's hilarious! :D
03 March 2006, 09:50 AM
Heh, glad you like it Martin:)
Here is my little monster:
(and no, please don't comment on the quality of that photo.. heh)
alancamara, Lemog, Agamemnwn: thank you:)
zem: actually, that's what I felt as well. Not sure the race quite goes with the journey begins theme particularly well... *keeps doodling*
Should really be programming right now, but this is so much more fun;)
03 March 2006, 10:21 AM
Maby you could have a couple of mice traveling on the turtle's shell, like you would on an elephant, a carrier basket(Don't know what it's called)
Cute dog. Looks like a bit of a wild one with the ears flapping. Energetic, right?:)
03 March 2006, 10:51 AM
Glad to meet "the monster" :scream: hahaha... I prefer this new idea... but maybe an another composition... and another pose for "your" dog... with his effort and the way more visible... more clear, more evident...
03 March 2006, 11:03 AM
Poor dog... a long way to drag that giant stick.
03 March 2006, 11:07 AM
Hi Carina !
Some hilarious characters here !
The turtle is just priceless :scream: !!
Keep it up , and best wishes for the challenge with a lots of fun !
03 March 2006, 12:29 PM
I like the humorous approach to the subject, the chese one maybe more, but the others as well. Depends how you'll proceed with their compositions.
Maybe in the dog one, use a Yorkshire or shrink him and upscale the bark to make seem impossible...
I'll be watching your journey
03 March 2006, 12:39 PM
the dog sketch is funny...and cute :)
you can put the turle in there too, as he looks at the dog and sighs... what is he doing? moving around in speed like that?.. when you can sit here and watch the day goes by :p
03 March 2006, 05:52 PM
GO with no2
03 March 2006, 07:44 PM
Another concept with the turtle! (Mk.. I can't draw a palm tree to save my life..)
03 March 2006, 07:51 PM
hehehe that poor turtle. Interesting characters Carina.
03 March 2006, 09:01 PM
Aww thats cute stuff :)! Ive been trying to do cute stuff for this challenge, never done it before.. :p Its loads of fun! Looking good so far..
Good luck and have lots of fun!
03 March 2006, 09:07 PM
Great concepts. I particularly like the turtle.
Good luck with the challenge :)
03 March 2006, 09:49 PM
hey nice idea, I'd work on the composition a bit if I was you. It's kinda separated in half at the moment, one side has the swimming turtles, the other has the.. hesitant.. turtle. It also seems like the hesitant one is gonna set off to another direction than the others are.
Well I know it's just a sketch but I'm anyway throwing things at you.. start dealing with color in your next sketch!
03 March 2006, 10:00 PM
I like the turtle idea. Maybe you shold try something with the birth of a sea turtle. You know... that little turtles trying to reach the sea.
I see you enjoy the cartoon look. Very nice.
03 March 2006, 10:10 PM
The turtle that is afraid of water is great, just looking at the character tells a story and you could jump from there :)
03 March 2006, 10:14 PM
Thanks so much for the encouraging words!:)
FrozZT: Weeeeellll.. am going for cute as "serious and aiming for photorealism" is far too daunting;)
Ranath: Definitely need to work on composition. I haven't really though much about it yet. Just concentrating on getting the idea across at the moment, will work on the composition once I settle for the one idea.
rodrigoessinger: Might give that a go, still can't quite settle for the one idea;)
Lemog: If I go for the dog concept you're right, I'd have to change the composition, and the angle etc. See I.. er.. that angle was the only way I managed to actually draw anything dog-like. WHY can I draw a turtle but not a dog, when I spend most my time with one.
zem: no kidding. I take him for a two hour walk and hope he'll be tired enough to go right to sleep when we get back home, that way I might get some work done. But of course, he's still packed full of energy by the time we get back, and I'm the one needing a nap;)
03 March 2006, 08:00 AM
great job on the turtle Carina , i love the way his leg trumbles scared to get in :D
03 March 2006, 04:48 PM
hey carina, the last concept is great. the only thing i worry about is that it may be too simple in the execution. you'll really have to do a tremendous job on his expression and the overall cartoony quality of it (which i'm certain you can). all the best.
03 March 2006, 05:33 PM
u have some great ideas here keep rocking
03 March 2006, 06:16 AM
Dog or Turtle ? this new little pretty cutty turtle seem very funny and interesting... btu I must agree with Cleveland... maybe that can give a too poor composition...
...the dog is always my prefered... with this pet, you really can give a story... and while seeing this picture, we can imagine all his many possible adventure, and his effort with this piece of wood... just waiting for your decision... :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
03 March 2006, 12:07 PM
You've got some knack for cute critters Carina! Hey, if you do the turtle you can throw some pirates in! Yarrrr.:D
03 March 2006, 07:04 PM
LOL, the turtleís first swim, awesome. Iíll be checking back to see how it goes
03 March 2006, 07:21 PM
Arr! pirates.. now that's a great idea! heh..
Thanks again for the encouragement. Afraid I've been madly busy over weekend and the beginning of this week and it's not likely to let up in the next few days (marking courseworks.. weeee.........). Have to say I'm probably moving away from the turtle idea for this challenge (tho I will probably mess around with it at some other time). I do reckon, like you say, that it might be difficult to get a great composition, and the turtle itself might be too simple a character to warrant any great amount of time spent on it.
Sort of leaning towards the dog atm, but the fact that i still can't sketch one from a sane angle is a bit off putting:p
SO! Will hopefully have some sort of update by the end of the week.. maybe.. possibly. I need more hours in my day:)
03 March 2006, 07:34 PM
.. possibly. I need more hours in my day:)
Don't we all chickie, dont we all. But dont sweat it. I know you'll get the composition that'll work. Afterall you have a real live model in the house. Just dont let him out of your sight without a camera!
03 March 2006, 05:13 AM
very cute :) brings me to ideas like dogs on a turtleshaped pirateship that brings me to the idea of dogs building a huge trojan turtle... erm. hehe, just keep on going, its refreshing to see a fun approach on the topic :)
03 March 2006, 01:57 PM
how concep you will make?
I like of the turtle run!
03 March 2006, 12:22 AM
hehe cool concepts, i like the turtle one(s) the best, especially the last one. Cute little animal hehe ^^
Good luck ! ;)
03 March 2006, 07:34 AM
Thanks for the encouragement guys. Not looking as tho I will have time for any updates anytime soon, what with random work deadlines looming, being in the middle of buying a house, and spending hours on end on the phone to the insurance company to get a new car after some thieving ******** stole ours
Hoping to have some time over the easter holidays, but may be a bit over optimistic there;)
04 April 2006, 09:03 PM
