Hi Nico !

Good luck for this challenge and have fun !!!

03 March 2006, 08:15 AM
Thanks to you guys ;)
I post here my firs idea and i hope you will help me to know if it's a good idea.
The idea : we are in Alice in Wonderland. Alice meets the rabbit and decide to follow him. Then he enters in his hole. Alice follow him in the hole and the journey begins.
The image take place in the hole when alice and the rabbit fall in wonderland. The rabbit is on the bottom and he looks at his clock. Alice is in the top and she looks at the object falling with her. She has afraid but in the same time she is curious about this journey ..
I'll try to post a sketch ...
What do you think about this idea ?
Thanks for your help ;)

03 March 2006, 08:56 AM
Hi Nicolas and good luck!

I like much your idea - you can make it both sweet and dramatic, I'd say - go for it

03 March 2006, 09:51 AM
Hey "Mon Grand"... so cool to find you here for this challenge... I've just read the story... well... it's not really original... but the style of realization can make the difference...

...the most important is that you feel good with your realization... for the quality, and for the fun... then... I'm impatient to see the first sketch about a "possible" composition.

Good luck "Mon Grand"

03 March 2006, 10:43 AM
Cunilla : Thanks and i hope i do a good image with this idea ...
Laurent : yes the idea is not very original but unless it's in the subject and i think i am able to realize it. Thanks for the support ;)

03 March 2006, 10:46 AM
Goooood luck to you !! ;)

03 March 2006, 11:05 AM
Laurent : yes the idea is not very original but unless it's in the subject and i think i am able to realize it. Thanks for the support ;)
I support your choice at 100% mate :wip:

03 March 2006, 11:25 AM
I'm agree with Lemog , the way you will wover the subjet are far more important that the idea itself.
Good luck to you and post as soon as possible ;)

03 March 2006, 12:45 PM
Thanks for your support to all three ;)
I try to post a sketch tomorrow ...

03 March 2006, 12:49 PM
Good luck man !!!

03 March 2006, 03:07 PM
Thanks man ;)

For the moment i search image for inspiration ...

03 March 2006, 03:12 PM
Hey Nicolas nice to see you here:bounce: ,

Gooooooddddd luck to you..

I hope to see a final image

03 March 2006, 03:17 PM
Thanks and i hop to see a final image too ;)

03 March 2006, 05:21 PM
Hey Nico !!

Well I'm sure you can make this well-known story something really special here !!
Can't wait to see that !!

Go go , Nico !!

cheers ,

03 March 2006, 10:11 PM
That can be... no... that must be a very good and very interesting composition... you must certainly work a lot on the originality of this comp... and on the originality of the character design...

03 March 2006, 06:34 AM
I also think you can relaise a "good" picture with this Alice concept ...

And now you're an expert with maya and fur ;)

03 March 2006, 08:48 AM
Thanks steph, i try to post more sketches ;)
Laurent (Draven) : Thanks and i'm not an expert but i know a few tips :)
Laurent (Lemog) : Yes that's why i try some sketches but it's difficult for me and i don't know really where i'm going. For the moment i choice an cartoonish image with a pretty Alice. But i'm not yet sure ...

03 March 2006, 08:53 AM (

I try to draw some character but i'm not a good drawer so ot's difficult for me ...
I search the style of the image. For the moment i choice a cartoonish style with a few realistic render ... But i'm not sure.
For the sketch of the scene, i think i'll make it in 3d with a cartoon render. I hope for tomorrow ;)

03 March 2006, 09:05 AM
Great idea, very popular, so it will be easier to make myriads of associations in most people who know the story... But also its great popularity puts the technical requirements very high! If I see a story using so "communicative" and well-known motifs, I automatically expect sth outstanding to avoid feeling like "just another Alice in Wonderland..." You put the quality treshold very high!

In meantime I will use sth less recognized-I`m not (yet, I hope;) ) technically excellent and I have to rely on an strange idea rather than on my 3d skills. If you`ve decided to face the most steep path-I wish you good luck, but this time I will follow the stairs ;)

03 March 2006, 10:27 AM
Hi Nico :

Great sketch ! , Eagerly waitin' for that 3d sketch !

keep it up mate !

cheers ,

03 March 2006, 06:50 AM
Fun idea, I like it.
good luck Elendil

03 March 2006, 08:31 AM (

Don Lope and Armand de Maupertuis think they arrive to the last of their journey but in fact the journey just begins and an amazing thing wait them ...

03 March 2006, 08:37 AM
Silgrin : Yes i think it will be difficult but i am not sure with this idea. The new idea is better or not ?
disciplus, zapan : thanks and what do tou think of my new idea ?

03 March 2006, 08:44 AM
I really prefer the originality of this new one...

03 March 2006, 09:02 AM
I think i prefer also this concept ... ;)

03 March 2006, 09:06 AM
Hi there,

i must say that your second concept is really nice. The characters seem full of life and with much personality. I would go with those 2 characters, iam not to sure about the envoirment though, the high moutain in the back takes to much place maybe a landscape?

Top noch.. :)

03 March 2006, 09:07 AM
Yup - great new concept! And a really beautiful first sketch

03 March 2006, 09:15 AM
larsgehrt : Thanks ... You're right for the environment ; i think i take those two character but i will search a new environment ;)
Cunilla : Thanks :)

NB : I just precise that those character come from a "BD" called "De cape et de crocs" as you see on the image ...

03 March 2006, 09:54 AM
Yes tout comme il a dit lolo :)

03 March 2006, 11:02 AM
I like your second idea... the background actually quite nice, it help to create some distance feel and it can create nice DOF as well.:)

03 March 2006, 11:14 AM
New idea

I really prefer the second idea, really more originaly...:wip:
I can't wait to see the frist sketch... so hop hop hop au boulot nico :arteest:

03 March 2006, 11:51 AM
Yay !

This new concept should work fine ! Better than the previous one IMHO !

looking forward for updates !

cheers ,

03 March 2006, 12:09 PM
good luck with this concept , looking forward to seeing the progress

03 March 2006, 03:39 PM
Unfortunately, I don`t know the characters of your new sketch-but looking at the feedback, you can expect much appreciation... Good luck! Going home to push my own one a bit fwd... See you on Monday! ;)

03 March 2006, 04:47 PM
Yes your new concept is really good Elendil :)

The characters are really cools and it's very original !

You don't have choice ... choose this one

03 March 2006, 09:22 AM (

Just for inspiration ...

03 March 2006, 09:24 AM (

And also the concept sketch. I don't post a draw because it's too difficult for me.
But i have begun the modeling of don Lope and i hope to post tomorrow an up ;)

03 March 2006, 09:26 AM
Thanks to all ;)

alvin_cgi : finally i thing i keep this environment because i think it's good with this challenge.
The next for tomorrow i hope with don Lope ...

03 March 2006, 10:08 AM
You start the modeling and you don't post it???

We want to see it so hop hop hop post it quicklyyyyyyy :D
I can't waiiiiiiitttttttttttt more time

03 March 2006, 10:16 AM
Ok i post it tonight or tomorow because i'm not at home ;)

03 March 2006, 02:45 PM
Yes , great references set up !

Can't wait to see the modeling start !

cheers ,

03 March 2006, 08:26 AM (

It's just the begining of the modeling.
I start the modeling with zsphere in zbrush then i tweak and i've made the hands and the head in maya. Then i tweak in zbrush.
I must yet the tail and tweak all the shape to obtain a good shape.
Then i use zbrush for details but not more because the almost of the body has clothes and the rest has fur ...
Next for tomorrow i hope ...

03 March 2006, 08:27 AM
Thank zapan the modeling had already started ... :D

03 March 2006, 08:40 AM
Very well started... just the knees appear quiete strange... but maybe it's due to the little size on the picture... the look is already very interesting... I like it...

03 March 2006, 08:43 AM
Päs mal du tout ! La tête ressemble bien ! Vite, les habits !

It's good ! The head look like the original head, and i waiting for the clothes :)

For the knees, they are as this in the comics to give the feeling of knees of dog ...

Darknessshade : Pour le nez ça n'est évidement pas terminé il reste encore bcp à faire pour obtenir ce que je recherche mais puisqu'il faut poster les étapes :)
For the nose it's not finish, i must tweak so much to give that is in my head ...

De plus il s'agit de screen venant de zbrush donc la perspective est faussé ...
And it's screens of zbrush so the perspective is false ...

03 March 2006, 09:20 AM
Lemog : in fact you're right for the knees this si not like this ... I'll remake them ...

03 March 2006, 09:27 AM
Just the angle which appear very hard... even for a standing dog... :)

03 March 2006, 11:48 AM
looking great so far Nicolas... looking fwd to more

03 March 2006, 12:43 PM
Thanks Martin :) It s a real pleasure to see you here ...
I think i post an up tomorow ;)

03 March 2006, 05:53 PM
That looks good to me, I have use zbrush a few times and I just haven't figured out how to export my normalmaps from zbrush to maya.

03 March 2006, 06:54 PM
Great start on the character Nicolas !!

Very clean mesh , I would say from here that the base of the nose seems a bit thin ... But better wait to see your Zb tweaking !!!

So keep it up !

Cheers ,

03 March 2006, 08:25 AM
vedic kings : you have an option in the zmapper to choice automatically the good options. Then you save the image created ...

zapan : Thanks, and you're prabably right for the nose ...

No up for today because i search how to make this characterwith the best technics ... But tomorrow i hope ...

03 March 2006, 08:28 AM
ça avance, ça avance !
Continue comme ça Nico !

03 March 2006, 11:15 PM
Hey hey nice start Nico  I find the knees a little strange for the moment...
here a link... i hope it will helpyou

03 March 2006, 08:25 AM (

Finally i've decided to create the clothes and the entire character, and also the pose, before to return in zbrush ...
I remade the knees and i've made the tail.
But this is again very imparfait because i just put the character in his pose and i have not yet detailed ...
Next for tomorrow i hope ...

03 March 2006, 08:26 AM
Thanks for the reference Cédric and thanks for the comment Gilles ;)

03 March 2006, 09:15 AM
After good texturing he can be a very interesting character. Waiting fore the next stages...

03 March 2006, 09:19 AM
Thanks but i'm far of the texturing ;)
I have yet much work in modeling for this character :)

03 March 2006, 09:24 AM
Knees are really better now... just curious to see the another side, but that seem all good... clothes are well started... il n'aura pas de ceinture à la taille ?

03 March 2006, 09:27 AM
Thanks :)
Si il aura une ceinture je pense ... Là g juste voulu posé la forme générale ...
What another side ?

03 March 2006, 10:16 AM
Thanks :)
Si il aura une ceinture je pense ... Là g juste voulu posé la forme générale ...
What another side ?

03 March 2006, 12:03 PM
Hey Nico !

Awesome progress on that character , everything looks great !
I agree , a belt could be a nice addition !

cheers ,

03 March 2006, 12:20 PM
looking good but maybe you need to refine the arms a little bit

03 March 2006, 01:00 PM
Thanks ;)
Zapan : Yes i will add a belt i think ...
kestas : the arms don't stay as this, there will be a shirt on them ;)

03 March 2006, 01:56 PM
I am waiting the next image :) It's a good character !

03 March 2006, 05:07 PM
Nice progress with your model - I'm sure it will be perfect when it comes from ZB, good luck!

03 March 2006, 05:14 PM
nice character
good modeling.
waiting for more... .. .

03 March 2006, 08:18 AM (

So i've make some details and i tweak the render ...
It stay yet the creases of the clothes and a little bit details like the gun, the sword and a hat.
I don't do anything on the head so i must to remake the head and the arms ...
Update for tomorrow maybe ;)

03 March 2006, 08:19 AM
Thanks all for the support and more is arrive :)

03 March 2006, 09:08 AM
Well. Your modeling is great. Even I personnaly think that it's not really the aim of such a contest to copy an existing concept. I will find it interssting for a personnal purpose and post it in wip 3d. In a contest, i'm not sure you are in the rules.
Sorry it is what I think. But going back to your work...i really like it; You've got the real shape of the character. MAybe the arms are too big but when you'll change it to make more "clothy" it will be good.

03 March 2006, 09:13 AM
Thanks ;)
I'm agree it's not very good to copy for the challenge but if i'm not in the rules of this contest, i don't care :)
You're agree for the arms, i have much work in the head and in the arms ...

03 March 2006, 02:22 PM
Good modeling here! But agree with authentic. Although, if you don't care, there is no problem dude;)
Have fun in first place!!
I ll follow your work
Good luck

03 March 2006, 02:47 PM
I lke his clothes ..very ...err French. :) ...u already said u will work again on i will wait till u post the new model for more crits. :bounce:

03 March 2006, 03:31 PM
Hey Nicolas!
cool looking char.. I would make a bigger belt, this one looks a bit weak, doesn't fit the char, just a thought  Good model.. :)

03 March 2006, 03:34 PM
Thanks ;)
Yes you're right for the belt Michael ... iwill change it :)

03 March 2006, 03:49 PM
Yeah, well done!
Right, the belt is to tiny...

03 March 2006, 03:58 PM
Hey Nicolas, I loved your concept and sketch and good start with modeling, I'm around to see more.

03 March 2006, 05:18 PM
Hey Nico !

Great progress here , love his outfits ... fits really well with the sketches !
Looking forward for the new hands/arms !

cheers ,

03 March 2006, 05:23 PM
Smooth modeling on the clothes. They put the character righty in his role. Awaiting for more...

03 March 2006, 08:37 AM
Jonathan, alan, Stephane, Antonis: Thanks all ;)
No up for today but i'm working on this for make the creases and remake the shape of the hands and the arms.
I want also to give more life to his movement...

Next in the week i hope ;)

03 March 2006, 10:30 PM
Nice update here..

i have nothing to critics more... so keep it up

03 March 2006, 10:52 PM
the only risk I feel is:
when people see a story that they know it,or there is another production about it
they compare it with what they have in their mind.
that's a big risk to do something again.
but sometimes it happens new work is totally different and shows the artist is a great master!
I mean nobody gets tired of what is created again,if it has more appeal
good luck!

03 March 2006, 08:35 AM
Thanks ;)
Yes tou're probably right Shahab but i don't search a general aprobation i search just to progress and the copy is for me more easy. Because for the moment i'm too bad in drawing to draw what i have in my head ...

03 March 2006, 08:50 AM

Good Job Man.

And the Fur?? ;)

Bonne Suite:thumbsup:

03 March 2006, 10:10 AM
Yes good luck man on your way to this adventure. Copying is a good mean of improving, I agree. The next step will be to add some of your own imagination. Hope you succeed to do that on this piece. Great modeling sofar:thumbsup:

All the best!:wavey:

03 March 2006, 10:41 AM
Really "SUPERB"... just need now to offer him the final details for his own personality... the breath of life, of his life... already well done

03 March 2006, 12:26 PM
William : Thanks ;)
Thierry : Thanks and i will try to put my proper imagination in these characters and in this image. And for the future i've just decided to learn drawing :).
Laurent : Thanks a lot for your support and i work at this moment to give more life to this character. I hope an up for tomorrow ...

03 March 2006, 01:29 PM
great model, I like it. But I think you forget the most important, the expression of the character. Your is very neutral.

03 March 2006, 09:41 AM

03 March 2006, 08:28 AM
