sorry for the bad drawing:s. Well i wanted to do this small creature, maybe an elf or a little troll..who has spent so many years in his forest. The past night he had this weird dream..that he had to seek for someone special. He doesn't really know about his past...animals of the forest have taken care of him so far..but he feels he has to find something..so finally he packs his bag and takes a trip to the unknown..

I tried a little composition test for the image. The creature will be standing on a mushroom. He's looking to the journey ahead. His companion for this trip is a salamander that will cary him along the way.
I didn't find yet the backround..but it will be something attractive. I thought maybe the character would carry an object that leaded him to this place..maybe an orb, or a crystal..hope to find out what soon:)

First render test for the mushroom in the foreground. Low poly in maya then some small details and the texture in Zbrush. The bottom is not finish yet.

Started to model the elfe who will stand on the mushroom. I first planned ot make a guy, but after shaping the mouth i thought she was prettier as a girl elfe. It's the start, ..i spent time to get the topology right. I know it's not very important for a still image but it's a good exercice anyway. It's actually the second time i do a face so it's not very easy:)
Well, comments are welcome as usual..(still waiting for some:p)

But i'm gonna finnish this one:)

Finally found some time this week end to get some things done. I decided it would be better to draw first:) As it was a long time i didn't draw anything it took me some time..but at least i know where i'll go for the modeling.
So here is the new sketch for the main character.
Wow i guess i'm really late..should get some modeling done now;)

sorry i changed my mind again.. This elf image was going nowhere, i wasn't really into it. So i thought about something more funny to do. It's a koala who decided to take a trip to the beach which is kinda far. He's waiting at a bus stop in the middle of the desert under the sun with all his luggages ( big suitcase, surfboard, etc..) He's wearing a hawaian style shirt, sun glasses. The place looks abandonned , like just one bus is going every week, but our little koala has faith..he'll be enjoying the beach sooner or later:)
hope you like this concept more..

First render test for the model. I'd like to use fur..hopefully i'll succeed to render it correctly.

First render test for the fur.. Just checking if i can obtain something correct. I think it will work out. I'll tweak again later. I'll take care of the modelling now.

Really cute Koala - but I'm a bit sad you dropped that nice mushroom... anyways, this will be great too, good luck!

Thanks Gunilla for the comment:)
Well, i was also sad to leave the mushroom idea..but i'll use it in some other project hopefully. Koala scene will be more fun to do i think. I'm now modeling the clothes (shirts, shoes and hat maybe).
Your Dinomites are cute as well:) it's original idea..good luck to you too!

I chose an old style of suitcase. The one with all the stickers and postcards from previous hollydays.. I think i'm gonna texture it next.

New tests for fur and with accessories.

cute character! nice mushroom, looking forward to seeing more! Good luck!

Cool funny character in that last render! The long fur in the middle of the torso looks a bit strange, though, maybe it should be shorter, or resting at a different angle?
Keep it up!:)

First render tests for the road and the desert behind. Still a lot to do and i guess i'm very late..but i'm trying:)

I like it. Koalas seem perfect for waiting.
Some GI to fill in the shadows on the suitcase and all would be nice.
You're going to have to get cracking.

Textured suitcase. mix of different tiled textures and masks.
05-09-2006, 09:58 PM
Another render test for the pose. It took me some time to get a correct skinning for the shirt .so now i can go on and texture accessories. I'll also add sun glasses that will be on the top of his head. Comments welcome;)

Very cute koala indeed and I just love those sandals! I'm sure (s)he's off for some real
fun at the lake!
Looking forward to seeing the final scene!

Another light test with more textured objects and also a test for the sky. I 'll make some bushes in the backgroung..with textured planes i think. Still have to finnish the bus stop.
05-22-2006, 10:35 PM
Almost done...i'll add some heat displace on the road..if i manage to do it correclty :)..plus some other details.
Comments and advice are welcome

After 2 days of hard work i could finnaly finnish it. I couldn't do all i wanted at first but here it is anyway. For the final Hi Res render, i decided to split into layers, it was way more flexible like that. I used the zdepth in photoshop to create atmospheric depth and final composition was made in photoshop and digital fusion.
It was my first big scene using renderman.
Well, hope you like it and good luck again to all participants;)
The story again:
Mr. Little Koala decided he wanted to take a journey to the beach, because surfing has been his dream for always. He leaves not far from this "so called" bus stop, and think he can catch the next one to finally take off for the sea. Unfortunately the place is kinda dead so it's gonna be a long journey..but i'm sure he'll make it;)
