My journey began here at CG talk.
When I first time loged on this great site,I really wasnt aware of things that will follow after.

I moved from my home town,and away from my family and friends for life time oportunity,great job that doesnt hit you every day,but merely,once or twice in your life.Many thx for that once more to CGtalk.

And now this theme,set's me and you guys into new journey.Im happy beyound telling.

Wishing all participants great and peaceful journey.(with occasional thrills dangers n' monsters on they're trip)

Here is my first idea,hope to be the last,and that I wont have double and triple thoughts on this.


Basicaly,I got the idea for this character a month ago or so looking at photographed yellow dragon fly insect.
Since,I have it in my head,and have made rough sketch,that was probabaly never to be finished,but then,,JOURNEY challenge kicked in.
Thats when I decided I could giv it a go.
I finishwed sketch of the character,and during sketchin' proces
I broaded my idea to entire family image.
Dad,mom,kids,ones that are hatched,and ones that are to be hatched.

SHORT STORY__cos I havent thought of elaborated story for theese chars.

They are set on Journey they do every year,they are like birds,that move to follow summer.

Behind them,I hope to put endless row of theese INSECT_LIKE crits.
I will finish the sketch as much detailed as I can,to remove any Q's out,so the modelling can be smooth with clear idea of what a'm after here.

Well,that's it,have layed my CARDS on the table.

makaron__THX again.I'l post image that I saw on the net that inspired me for this character,ass soon as I find it on my messy pc.
Basicaly,the father figure was the original idea i brought from that photo,and then came the rest of the family.

atra,,thx atra,hvala,to je i bio cilj,da postignem prizemljenu normalnu anatomiju žene=that was the goal,to achieve down to earth female anatomy.

gpepper,,glad U guys like it.

Im at the job now,dont have time to check out all of you people,but that is on my list of things to do..I really cant wait to see where you people go with this journey.

Hi people.

I still dont have butterfly tingle in my stomach about this concept so it means I still need to look for good composition I guess.

Id appreciate any thoughts on it,,
any pointer to something existing might set me to next step on this journey.

I think you could have one family in the foreground on top of a hill, and the crowd in the background with the city that they're leaving. This way you would show that it is a mass evacuation, but still keep it personal with that one family. Good luck!

I second the motion to have a whole lot of ppl leaving home but center composition on the family in the foreground maybe staring still to what awaits them or maybe show them in the struggle of walking among many.

I'l probabaly end with
family in the foreground,
and in Bg more of them moving away,laving houses.

But Im still dweling on some things here.

Little by little Im forging story of theese creatures.
I think the reason for moving will be drying season,And the houses they live in would probabaly hang from something,,and they know the time for moving has come when they'r
houses start loosing height,and start touching grounds.

So.I'l try to portray that moment,,,crackled ground,,brownish and dryed vegetation,,

I need to think bit more.

I would like to start modeling more than anything,but I want to feel tingly sensation in my stomach about the cocncept before I start anything of a kind.

Until the tingle time... :)

Hey Damir,

Concentrating on the family and having others leaving there homes in the background I think is a good idea. Maybe if you think of where you want them to go and why they are leaving some more ideas will come to you. I am think there is a drought and they have to leave , this is the impression I get for whatever reason.

Hi A I R,
i love the idea of the father holding the childrren 'cacoons'. Unique!
My crit: right now the scene has no urgency. It could be a a family leaving a war-threatened environ or a family leaving for a camping trip... The fact that there are so many children supports this. You kinda feel like "well, if one gets lost you still have the others". Horrible I know - but dramatically... y'know what I mean.

No idea what sort of suggestive details you plan to get in to the composition, but I think that the protective parent-child element is the strongest impulse in the peice. I'd suggest one parent / one child. Perhaps devestation of the previous extended family in the background - or a mysterious "leave-by-night" situation, maybe the father wants to protect the yet-to-emerge-child-who-would-otherwise-be-sacrificed-the-next-day kind of scenario.... something that paints out the inner drama more clearly.

Hope this crit is helpful. great work.

I visited your thread the other day,I see you dont quit hair,,last time as I recall,you stueggled wiwth beard,,,I have ornatrix plugin for hair,have tried it when I made gorilla,It is cool plugin and renders believable hair,,with proper settings...FRIZERKA,,hahahaha..

sandfish__thx for droping bye man.Im impatience kinda myself to see what are the results in Z-brush.
Sometimes everything what I plane to do goes so smooth,and othertimes,I cant get what I want no mater what,those bad times,I could even jump on my eyebrows and dance KAN-KAN and it wouldnt help. :)

atra__Yep,we are coalegues gal'.I have half of faculty education,and two high scools.
The details I'm after are hard to get,REALITY!!! :D :argh:
But Il giv my best,and try to dance KAN-KAN if it takes.

After few unsuccesable attempts,
I finaly got his head wright.
I was about to drop my pen,and finaly got the shape I wanted.
It is still not what I have in my mind,but after some detail here and there,
convincing eyes,few tooths,and nice texture,,,
This is his head,now for the body,hope I wont have so much problems with it.

Adding a comment:

His mouth are multylayered,dont know if there is any expression for that,
but as a bug liek creature,he has
two pair of mouths,uper and lover,,
In my opinion,his upper mouth are more for communication use,and lower ones are
one designated for feeding.

Yeah,I forgot to say,his mouth not finished yet,the middle part missing,must model it.

thierry2005__luck is cruicila word here,,cos I had lack of it modeling head.Hope the body goes easyer.

ArtisticVisions__the head is result till now mate,but it misses bit more details,and parts,,,

Been a while.
I started modeling in Z brush.
But,have forgot alot of things since last serious Z ing spectacular dinosaurs.
This is skull part of the head.
Now i need to finish detailing double jaw parts and then body and then the texturing..
I guess I'l be able to derrive female character from this male figure,aswell
as the kids character.

Gotta put some rush.
I kinda lost my motivation a bit,,
everywhere,at job,,here,,It's gotta bee spring issue,
but think I'm getting over it..

I had problems with Z-brushin,,
also got complicated with displacement in zbrush,,,
Im second thinking should I tryrender in Zbrush,,even though I dont know am I competent for that kinda task,,
will see.

I have the same problem with you , zbrush interface made me confuse at first and I tend to forget it if i don't use it every day ,but it's very powerful , and about the displacement workflow , there are a pdf tutorial at pixologic at zbrush classroom section , it's very clear and extremely useful , check it out man!

Ok Damir, That's all clear. Just a tip to try..about dicplacement. I use a simple way to avoid displacement, mainly for tests, but sometimes that's fine for finals too. I used to export ZB mesh on level 3 (2-3-4, depends on how lowpoly the original) and export the normalmap too. As i counted it works much faster than displacement (for me in max with sss shader that's deifinitely faster) And you can add fine deatails as with a displacement map. I dunno it helps you or not, just give try. :beer:

But have to say I tried that also way back,,But as I recall,its something between
displacement and bump,is it not?
I finaly figured why my displacement havent worked,its because I made model out of few poly groups,and as I think I understand,that made z brush cunfused.

And I think you guys know how several attempts to make something does not go way you want,and you dont know what is wrong,and on top of everything,when you loose
few hours of work because you havent been saving your progrees so often.
I thin this emoticon shows my feelings :banghead: and then :cry: and then :shrug: and then :beer: and then :wip:

Hmm..I saw your update late night yesterday. I was thinkin about. Probably silly but i have some thoughts. So this character is an "insect" type with a strong antropomorph form, that's right for all of those emotional things you want to depict in your image. I asked myself where is the border? Are your shapes made in insect style and the stucture is more antropomorph or flipped? Right now i see it's more a "human" hand with bug relations inside the forms. If it's right i think the wrist is too short. Or the joint of the fingers are too strong. huh am afraid i cant explain it with my english.. Juts compare it with the palm view, that absolutely fit, but somehow the other side looks short to me.. Damir, not for disturb you, just i was thinkin too much on it, so time to share. :beer:

In the end,the first sketch was more insect like,,he had tiny fingers way grashoppers have,,like two small claws on ankled wrist.
I might go that way before I finish this,,So I see your point.

Going for three days vacation now,,,seeya ...Im kinda between two fires now,
gotta go see family,but would like to stay here and make some progress..
