Heres an environment sketch.. its not a scene or any thought on composition, its just a concept right now..

Hmm i wonder how i would blend my little cuties in that kind of environment.. :/

Crits are most welcome! :)

03-02-2006, 08:24 PM

edit: those codes again..?

03-02-2006, 10:45 PM
Sweat update but it doesn't feel like the start of something. Now why do I feel like breaking out in song? Anyway, I know you can make this last update whatever you want so do a little more on it and let's see where it leads.

03-03-2006, 06:58 AM
Oh, I like the stone thingy. You could make the animals into an exploration team, heading into the unknown. Kind of like Indiana Jones and Lara Croft teaming up, but this time it's animals.:)

This bug is helping the mole find his way around like dogs usually helps blind persons.. Just another feature to the mole's character... Hope to be able to put togeather a scene soon :/!

Share you thoughts and opinions! :)

03-03-2006, 09:35 PM
Cool sketch. Very different characters from the rest, I like the design. Lets see how they looks in a scene. :D

03-03-2006, 10:55 PM

Great sketch! This has a lot of possibilities...maybe a number of other bugs in foreground, middleground, and background, so it increases the sense of depth...really looking good!

Cheers, :)

03-04-2006, 05:39 PM
JTD: Thanks :)! The stone is only an environment design.. only a small piece of the upcoming composition.

zem: Hi zem thanks for sharing your thoughts ! :)

snowan: Yes its going to ba a challenge to merge all of this together and give the piece one defined style so that the different elements will blend in well.. Thank you! :)

Rebaccak: Hi.. Thank you and glad you liked my sketch! :) Patience.. a scene is coming soon :p This was only to present the mole's helper..

Thanks everyone! This is going to be a great challenge full of fun! Now back to sketching on a composition.. vbmenu_register("postmenu_3296355", true);

Heres a quick sketch of a composition.. im thinking of having my characters close up in the foreground.. I feel its a bit messy, i doont know!!? Im having some trouble figuring this out so i would love some crits and ideas on this one! I gotta run to work now, in a hurry..

Please crit this one! :)

03-05-2006, 09:42 AM
godmorgon Niklas,

I like the composition like that . u can more the characters in to respective are. like having the catterpillar on the top of the pillar looking att the main character. other characters going upon their jobs and creating a full of life enviroment that composition wise is drawn to the main character :D

03-05-2006, 06:53 PM
I think that this is a good comp :)

03-06-2006, 06:58 AM
If you make the characters look at eachother, displaying emotions of fear, happiness, curiousity and amazement, you could have most of them in the foreground.

I like the composition.

Keep em' coming

03-06-2006, 08:02 AM
i love those characters~:thumbsup:looks pretty good on the composition too

03-06-2006, 02:33 PM
makaron: Thanks makaron.. :) Im going to do some more work on this scene!

Agamemnwn: Glad you like it.. Thanks! Yea, the characters will probably make everything different, so i guess ill have to try and put them in there.

zem: Thats what i have in mind.. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

sh@ke: Thanks! Glad you like the characters! The scene still need some work.. Im on it!

Will try to have a final sketch ready soon, maybe some colors, so i can go on with line art and coloring.. I might present a new character aswell, possibly a villain! :p

03-07-2006, 02:01 PM
i really like the long eared rabbit character, great stuff so far man!

03-08-2006, 12:25 AM
looking great , keep it up!

03-09-2006, 12:48 PM

Crits are most welcome! :)

03-10-2006, 07:16 PM

03-10-2006, 08:18 PM

03-11-2006, 04:29 PM

Now i have put most of my characters in there.. I might add some more, possibly a bad guy too.. The front most character needs more work, yup.. and some adjustment needs to be made, then im gonna start coloring! :)

Crit away! :p

03-12-2006, 01:44 AM
Hi, the compo of the latest sketch looks graet, shows the depth of the environement, but I would like those character in more movement, shows the direction of their journey, haha thats only my personal suggetion

03-12-2006, 07:29 AM
you didn´t kid around when you said you wanna make a happy image this time...

Thanks alot guys! It means alot to me... Now im gonna start coloring! :)

03-12-2006, 03:03 PM
wow! Awsome sketch, I love the composition and perspective. I think the rabbit should be a little smaller but other than that wow!!

03-13-2006, 09:01 AM

03-13-2006, 09:09 AM
very funny idea and picture

03-14-2006, 01:18 AM
enialadam: Thank you so much! Im very glad you like it! I'll look into the rabbit thing.. hes supposed to be a little bit bigger but maybe the environment around him doesnt really show where hes standing right now..

Gonzalo Golpe: Hi! Im glad you like it! Thank you!

trevul: Thanks! Yea.. lots of happy expressions! :)

DeeVad: Thank you!

am7: Thank you for the appriciation!

grobouk: Thanks you!

I started coloring in PS at 6000/4500 pixels but it froze all the time so i pulled it down a bit.. It still keep freezing :(, so now i have developed a habbit of saving every 10 min :p... I've lost almost 3 hours already... I had the same problem with my spectacular so i guess ill be allright! :) Ill try to post something in color as soon as i can! Thanks fo the support guys! Later...

03-14-2006, 01:34 AM
very unique style, cool design and perspective on the building!

03-14-2006, 03:19 PM
I don't like everything in the characters but your environnement rocks.

03-14-2006, 06:48 PM
the mouse (or whatever it is) at the front and the hedgehog with the other small mouse are the best characters imo, their expressions are suiting the topic perfectly, and the environment is great, very imaginative... it looks like a funny journey

03-17-2006, 05:01 PM

Here is the mess of colors that i made so far.. Just to let you know im not being lazy! The colors will probably change alot from what they are now..

03-17-2006, 05:59 PM
very nice work man, i like this bilding it reminds historical magic riddles...

03-18-2006, 07:08 PM
Nice concept compo is dynamic, with that structure in the middle. I would put those cliffs in 3 point perspective, because the structure in the center is doing that. B4 u go into detail figure out ur lighting situation, is it evening or is it night, based on that u will light ur characters based on that! Remember that the characters are the most important part of the piece so focus on them!

03-21-2006, 09:55 AM
Tjena Niklas,

great lineart i a like the coloring so far of the image :D

03-31-2006, 05:40 PM

I recognize your style from the last challenge! Looking good so far.
About the lighting. To me it looks like a shadowed deep canyon in broad light. but you could allway give them a torch or something if you´d like a more distinct lighting.
Good luck!

04-14-2006, 11:10 AM
kevinhyshen: Thank you, glad you find id cool... :)

authentic: Glad you like my envrionment.. Is there something specific about the characters you dont like? Maybe they just dont fit your taste.. Thanks

elmasfeo: Thank you, glad you like it.. Ill try to make it as fun as possible!

FlaminGlow: Thanks man.. I wanted to give the structures an ancient feel, hope i succeded..

beelow: Hey man.. Judging from what you wrote i think you missed my real compo sketch/lineart, this last one is just a fragment.. The structure is in a more extreme third point becouse its in a leaning hill(hard to see from the last one)..
The mountains will be in third point but not extreme at all.. Thanks for giving it some thought! :)

Agamemnwn: Hej! Thanks for the support! :)

Norberg: Thanks you! I think i have the lighting figured out.. It'll be clearer soon..

I havent worked anything on this now for almost a month.. Had lots of other stuff to do. Now that im done with that other stuff im going to pick this up again! Hope to give you something new soon!

04-14-2006, 12:46 PM
Hi Niklas! Glad to see you in the challenge too! :) I really like all you've done already, especially the structures with great texture. Only one, it seems to me the characters look too ordinary compared with your weasels in 'Element of suprise' image. I'm looking forward to seeing the next stage. Good luck! :)

04-18-2006, 09:04 PM

Here we go.. This has been resting for a month and now i have started splashing color all over. :p The lighting will show as i progress with the image.. bright daylight is the idea and working with the shadows and light to attract attention!

Crits and comments are most welcome! :)

04-27-2006, 10:19 AM
it looks very nice to me. Although I would put all the characters more to the left. Two reasons... one is that most of the ppl starts reading image from the left, so its easier for them to go thru the all piece than (otherwise they just might stopped on the right side of the pic in ur occasion and miss something thats in the left). Other reason is that ur pic already has something heavy on the right (that building statue) and with characters on that side as well, the balance of the compoosition isnt the best. Best regards and keep up the good work buddy! :)

05-22-2006, 02:23 PM
He? Come back and poste times WIP. I WAIT for it. Looks nice. I hope you have time to finish it. Good luck.
