hiya

still playing around with ideas, and warming up. I think this has alot of potential ;p

I think I'll want to swop out the human/pixie characters for insects instead (don't want to model another human from scratch)

comments and suggestions very welcome ;p

a quick doodle, hope you can make out from the mess. It's a ship made of leaves and twigs ready to set out for a voyage. I'll refine the designs for the ship a bit more, but so far I'm liking this idea more. hmm, from the sketch the outer shell almost reminds of the Protoss carrier from Starcraft ... but it'll be more leafy

the last sketch is very nice, but it might say action more than a journey beginning,.
but what the ****, as long as it looks briliant.
Feathers will be a nightmare.
Hamid made a nice bird in the last challange, maybe some ideas in his spectacular thread..

Versiden
03 March 2006, 09:05 AM

thanks rattlesnake! a few of those links I didn't find.. good read. I think at this stage I'll go for the 3rd concept. Things are a bit mad over here preparing for volleyball tournament and training, so if I spend another week on concept I'm screwed.

Hamid's thread is great, tho he's using maya so the script he used won't work for me.. interesting non the less.

I think he could use some muscle definition in 'wing shoulder' area (heh don't know the proper anathomical name ;) ), and lower neck - Since the wings are supposed to be able to lift the whole creature, it should be muscled quite well. I like the way you did the rest of the body.

Versiden
03 March 2006, 10:35 PM
thanks for the feedback guys

azazel - valid points, thanks. I'm still thinking if it's worth adding the detail for the neck and wing area if it's covered in down/contour feathers, I'll see how it goes but I'll probably add it ;p

I think i'm done with the main mesh. I'll be concentrating more on the feathers this week and getting it right.

comments / improvements welcome ;p

Neat :) But i have one more crit - the wing's forearm/elbow part looks very thin and fragile, and bit too short. Or maybe it just sticks out due to color variation of feathers and the body, as the silhouette looks about right.

thx for the feedback everyone ;p

@azazel - heya, the wing mesh actually extends beyond the feather region with the feathers over it, and as you said, the colour contrast makes it look thinner. With all the feathers/hair in place it should look smoother (in theory, hehhe)

The gryphon is fantastic. Has to be one of the best I've ever seen, and it's not textured, yet! Excellent work.

Jeah Martin It's really great! Maybe the pose is "rigid", but the character's proportions are smooth and well thought.

Very good work Martin!

The feathers worked out very nicely.
Did you map them before all the copying around?

y0y0, thx guys

to answer some questions -

@Tremoside - it's not rigged yet ;p

@dannyfalch - no maps applied to the feathers yet, just shaped planes

Ok,. it will take som map/texture work to get the wings done then, if no uvw was applied before copying,.
Good luck.

This is the most beautiful creature. I'm not gonna crit on anything, that would only imply that I know more than you...which I clearly don't. I can't wait to see all the elements together and not to mention, the amazing texture on that creature...Griffin? - I'm sure you won't dissapoint.

howsit guys

sorry for not updating in 3 weeks, alot has been going outside of 3d work and I haven't been able to really get this project going smoothly.

It seems that I probably won't be able to finish, which is a real shame and I hate not finishing what I start. Over the next month I'll be learning XSI to prepare for a new career in animation.

till then guys, I'll be watching on from the sidelines - goodluck!
