Hi Gord! I really like the idea behind the viking boats, too.

I think it would be great if the camera shot this from a little bit closer to the waterline so the dragonheads rear up impressively into the sky. I would love to see that.

03 March 2006, 11:50 AM
Have fun and a great Journey, Gordon :)

I agree with everyone, I like the ship concept best! These ships would look fantastic floating down a fjord with a rain of arrows heading towards them...Don't die on us, buddy! Keep going!

Nice concept, the background is really effective.

03 March 2006, 01:59 AM
I like how you combined both very strong warm and cool colors in the composition. If you can pull it off, it should come out very dynamic looking. Good luck, you're off to a good start.

03 March 2006, 03:58 AM
Riki, SlickGreekGeo - thanks for the input! - yes, I do think that sketch has potential.

This one is on the whimsical side ...

03 March 2006, 06:52 PM

I tried to take my time on your works Gordon ( Trying to sort of visualise where you are heading to.

You have a worthy control of your brush strokes... and manage to reveal a power in there application. I have to agree on the qualities of your images in the result of it all.
But there is just one small effect this may bring to you as a disadvantage to your participation of the competition itself. (Though for some reason you strike me more as someone who wants to do something that he will find worthy before others)...

And thatís that your characters... your images... even in this blocking form of them yield a lot of strength, a lot of power. They end up lacking the dimunifying, dwarfing difficulties their journeys are to hold against them.

As I looked through them all I always felt the strong arise of a hero... lone one or a few... with weaknesses or not... but none the less packed with all it would take.
You have a dominant style over your works in your portfolio link I went through recently as well... And it is not hard to tell that it is a style of your own.

So take this not as a crit to your works please, but a possible objective observation that might help you out.

Best of luck Gordon (!
