Heres another concept called time.

The idea is this dead planet that worship the moon, as its the only means of energy. This big empire of srot has been in the making for years by the aliens of of another world. The aliens are able to come and go as they please, but they are trying to help the planet by using the energy of the moon through the great empire. Soon at the right time when the empire is complete the planet will be healed and new life will come into being.

Just ideas, I got more coming up:)

this is concept #1 (the feel or emotion) and #2 (story) in one.

This is a planet that has no sun. The big structure is an on going project by the aliens from a far world, who has come here to generate a type of sun energy using the moon light. The lrage alien structure at the very top (around object) rotate with the moon 24/7. Moon light comes through (soma) down into the structure, which converts soma into fire (agni), and sends it back to the moon to create a sun energy for 12 hours on and 12 hours off.

The characters in the frontground are ordered to stop the alien, do to ignornce, who believe the aliens are here to create energy for their own useds, as a form of food.

The captain who ordered the humans hates the aliens do to a bad history, (his family were killed by alien, which at the time was a mistake). The aliens were trying to make peace with the humans,Which the humans were afraid of. The captain's father at the time was the commander drawing out a prefect plain to destroy the alien's world. So the alien's had no choice but to kill the commander. The son (the now captain) is the only survivor of that family, who is carrying out his fathers wishs.

So this scene is a revenge!

That last concept is really good! The backdrop (both the buildings and colour palette) has a kind of middle-eastern 'persian-like' feel to them... mixed with sci-fi! I think that sounds like a great combination and I hope you go along these lines.

I like star wars, but not a huge fan or any. But yes the model looks like Yoda, which im going to have to change, cause I don't really want him to look like Yoda. The moon idea, im not sure where that idea came from, I do read alot of Yoga books, like "Yoga Sutras of Patanjali":D

Hi pal,

just a simple thought, you could delete the ears and put on some "fish breathing things" (sorry don`t know the word) instead :) No Yoda anymore... ahh, maybe also some horns growing out of his two chin bulges... only a humble opinion, great work...!!!

You're both an excellent illustrator, but also modeler!
I love your 2d poses, and your modeling too...
Two notes:
I think the two horn/claws on his chin are a bit too much(childish:scream:)
And try not to clutter him with too many conventional gizmos. They grab from the posture & character.
my two cents

damn that character is looking sweet! the single-shoulder pad and helmet scream "palace guard" The legs absolutely rock, I'd love to see them animated as well. my only comment on this alien is that the "ankle" joint doesn't seem to have much support to it, but then again, alien tech and materials…

The outfits you have for your main characters in your concepts sketches kinda remind me of Tron (in a good way!) with the glowing lines.

nice layout Josh but i think the city is too far. lacks the element of adventure the suspence to the image and danger. They are snicking in make it closer.darker but some specific lights to light the characters faces or siluets. maybe bring guards into play into the image as they are sneacking in and have a close up on a character to show its emotions. i thought maybe the are spread up and as the camera is near to the face of one of the assasins a guard turns on his directions and the guys freezes . just a brainstorm as i am writing this and images pop into my mind :D hope it helps

I like your 3d setup! The blue previs sketch gives a nice mood.
Some notes:
Could the perspective change so that the moon is not within the city but top right, so it shows further away? Maybe make your frame portrait for this reason?
Also will the cylindrical columns have like floors/window/geometry or mapping to show the scale?

Kep up the grea work!

Hi guys:) Heres an update on the moon city. I put the alien there to give me an idea how the characters will look later.

Anyways I hope you all like it so far.

blueferret - thanks man:)

doffer - thanks!

evanfotis - Thanks! I moved a few things around as you can see above, like you were saying, I hope this is better. I might try the portrait:) The cylindrical columns will have all kinds of things, you'll see, in fact look at it now, still a long ways to go but its a start.

shakes - thanks, Will I ended up using the setup scene for the real scene by replaceing one by one:)

luigithekid - thanks man, im working on!

This is going really really well. Your modelling is great and it's all coming together in the last update.

The final camera angle works well, but you also had a thousand concepts you could have used! It must've being hard to choose just one, but I think the one you choose still looks awesome. Keep it up!

Aaah! You are so far along! I must work more, and faster! Lol, it's fascinating watch the various concepts develop, it's looking good. My only crit is that in the last one the moon is pretty close to the edge of the composition, it's no longer one of the central elements. If this is what you are going for, that's good too, but it will probably be high contrast and might pull your attention that way. . .

Good luck, looking forward to the final image!

Damn thats pretty cool! The smooth shaded look makes me all giddy, like only a fellow 3D artist will get... Looking forward to what you do for textures mate

burpy - thanks man, I still plan to use alittle of all my concepts in the final render. You'll see:)

Jjack - thanks!

Vicioun - thanks, and thanks for the input, yeah the moon is moved for now, so not sure where it will be in the final render, but somewhere:D

d3coy - thanks man:) yeah the textureing will be coming up here soon, just need to model some more stuff first:)

.... so I wish that moon will be much greater than in this composition. I like it more when it is a central element of the render (like Vicioun has suggest it). It isn't at the time. Great modeling, and you're very fast.

What can I say? Nice camera angle, layout and building models. The only criticism is what others have said, that maybe the moon should be a little more prominent. Very nice though.:)

I'm liking your latest composition. By making the moon smaller, with the main tower a bit farther off (and by adding in lots of buildings and guards) the journey will be more epic, or at least that much more difficult.

The moonlit feel is coming across nicely as well. keep it up!

So im wondering whats going to heppen when I start adding texture and effects? I just hope I have enough rem to compete the challenge! I have 2gb of ram running on a dual 2.8 P4.

2GB RAM?

I have 512 MB RAM and I can render large scenes fine. :)

MAybe increase your virtual memory (it might help) and your graphic card memory... (I mean add some memory to the graphic card from your RAM)

And also... if that doesn't help... try to make distant objects lowpoly, or none computer in this world will be able to render that :)

nice model and good composition ! I think you can manage some of render setting ,so you can render the final output , I have 1gb , I seperate my scene in to small piece and composite back again
