Latest Update: Modeling: Deck Hand Grasshopper (

A town. A lake side setting.
Simple setting out on voyage sketch.
Details to follow as modeling begins.

Here is the initial town. The buildings are modeled after a house model placed in an Egyptian tomb around 2000 B.C.

Here I've gathered some refrence photos for the grasshoppers

I will be shortining the abdomen and wings of the grasshoppers (the Captain has no wings)

Here is the refrence for the Captain of the ship:

Here will be the officer class:

And the deck hands:

So I will be modeling 3 different types. I'm going to characterize them as little as possible trying to keep them in insect form with the exception of walking upright and an oppisite bend at the end of the hind part of their legs for walking.

I'm not sure what order I'm doing them in or when I will start the boat but the boats hull will be made of leaves and the ship over all will be made of gathered slightly honed parts.

Here is the Captain Grasshopper at about 50% complete modeling.

Officer model at 50% complete

03 March 2006, 03:42 PM (

And finally the deck hand at 50%

I will display the trio of grasshoppers together at 100%
