Just some first thoughts on the idea that was spontaneous in my mind.
Please forgive me for the poor collage on such great artists works...but unfortunately i have drawings than call Stroke to any of u in a sec.

Images used on collage are Created and copyrighted of course by BORIS VALLEJO and JULIE BELL. It's obvious after so many challenges that i love their work.

I will use that as a base for a first more definite concept. The lady will probably have helmet and some stuff on arms and legs...But NO BOOTS ;)

Comments and crits are most welcomed.

To MODS_ If by any way this image violates any rights, although i mention appropriate credits, please remove it, i ment no harm.

02-28-2006, 12:40 PM

U can also see the Diplacement map and color produced in ZB.
C&C are welcomed.

03-01-2006, 02:24 PM

Another experiment for Grang Canyon - like style...directly in Maya along with a BW PSD image made quicly in Photoshop.
U can view directly results with the use of info node.

C&C are welcomed.

EDIT...in that point if u also play a bit with NoiseUV on Place2dTexture Node u can see hundred of mountains in front of u popping one after another.

03-01-2006, 03:00 PM
Hey thanks friends for the welcome...i hope i'll make something nice to see.

@ Lemog ...yup u are right about round edges..that is one of the issues i have to solve on Terrain....hehehe....Dadda, i will do good ...i promise Dadda...:bounce:

@ CGkoko...hey nuts...long time.Wiil be watching...Cool idea by the way.

03-01-2006, 03:01 PM
Excellent! Perfect for vast horizon!

03-01-2006, 03:11 PM
Very good environment!
Hmm... Whatīs itīs polycount? :D

03-01-2006, 03:20 PM
keep going

03-01-2006, 03:21 PM
What ? I see some Maya interface somewhere ? And where is XSI ? It seems to me that MR in XSI gives better results with displacement than Maya ! Don't you think ?

03-01-2006, 04:34 PM
What ? I see some Maya interface somewhere ? And where is XSI ? It seems to me that MR in XSI gives better results with displacement than Maya ! Don't you think ?$

I have got the same reaction !!! displacement map on maya ?
the 1st : why maya ? & why u dont use zb for displacing ????????? :D

03-01-2006, 04:44 PM
@ ragdoll ..i think it's promising too...thanks!

@ Alberto_Ro ... Who cares....?..:D ...It will controlled by Aproximation editor in MR.

@ the best ...will do! :D

@ gpepper ...Yes ..it's Maya. XSI is doing other stuff these days. Yes it gives better results but u can reach the same quality with a bit of pain in MAYA too. . Why...i still work with Maya...i never left from it...i just learn XSI also..:D .

@ flaeticia ... Yup Zb rocks in Disp too...but i am also trying another simpler aproach with Maya and Photoshop only...and i must say it's giving result closer to what i am thinking .
I will try to same test in Zb too...we 'll see.

03-01-2006, 05:28 PM
Onto modeling Already ?!?!? :surprised :scream:

U NUT Dimi !! :applause:

cheers ,

03-01-2006, 05:32 PM
dimi u can go on an other way with making the terrain. I was looking on implementing it on the last challenge but didnt have the time.
basically u can go to the USGS ( United states geo survey) site to download free DEM's (Digital elevation maps). with that u can open them on a free program called 3Dem and save them as a bmp or a terragen .ter file. if u use the bmp u can use it in maya and make a Mental ray displacement and subdivition approximation and convert the displacement into polygons to make your terrain. i find it its more reallistic to use real terrain maps and make a 3d enviroment. the problem is the spatial displacement to get a nice displacement for the 3d modell . need a nice pc to make it and not the crap i have but i will give it a go :D if you got any questions just ask u know where i am :D

03-01-2006, 05:52 PM
good job demi! I still don't have time to learn xsi :scream: and info node is great too! but I think it 's pain when you render final image !

03-01-2006, 05:59 PM
Hallo little Demi :p I can see mountians. :bounce: but I scratch my blondie curls.. all these technics stuff.. naaa... canīt help you there... gonna be nice to see how it turns out tho... I better get back to my wacom and pen...

Better of course 200%... just need she look in the good way... and maybe the helicopter is not necessary... or something flying more in this style of mood... good idea mate

03-02-2006, 05:31 PM
you might want to reconsider which way the girl is looking when you model her. As of now, the angle of her head is a bit distracting, makes me wanna look away from the misterious guy with the lamp.

good luck!

03-02-2006, 05:32 PM
great sketch. I like the mood of the scene.

03-02-2006, 05:38 PM
Maybe if instead of a high tech flyer you had a mystical-magical machine hovering in the BG?

I really like the mood and depth in the latest sketch, well done Dimitris

03-02-2006, 06:09 PM

03-05-2006, 07:02 PM
Hey nice work Dimitris! I like how you have an ages old technology in the simple boat and dock contrasted with the spaceship and modern city. It works with the fantasy characters and creature theme. Subscribed. Cheers, good luck!

03-05-2006, 08:51 PM
And now we are all doomed people :scream: !

Great to see you launched the Dimi-Polys-Factory !
Looking great already !

Keep it up !

03-06-2006, 07:05 AM
Hello Dimitri,

Real nice work. Your process is very interesting to watch. It is based on mixing things and techniques and using what works. Even the sketch is worked up that way. That is one fast way of working!. Best of luck!

(Hope to see more ZB used into this)

03-06-2006, 07:33 AM
cool waiting for more

03-06-2006, 08:29 AM

Wow it's a good begining and you go faster :)

03-06-2006, 09:13 AM
Dock is looking great and I love the concept. Only thing I would crit so far is that the dock looks a little TOO spotless.

Looks like the focus this time around will be on her thighs. :D

03-06-2006, 01:42 PM
Great concept and great modeling. I'll be watching.

03-06-2006, 05:58 PM

...Dock continues....but it's getting there...modeling wise...it will need a lot of work in texturing i think...

...and all of it so far.

C&C are welcomed.

03-06-2006, 11:45 PM
Personaly i think you need to change the camera angle, and have it tilting up at the building, would be good to see some concept art, because i didnt get it straight away, looking ace tho!!!

03-06-2006, 11:51 PM
:surprised Dang !

Great stuff Dimi ! :applause:

03-07-2006, 12:27 AM

Beautiful modeling, Dimi! And the night render is already pointing in the right direction

03-07-2006, 07:21 AM
Good morning friends :bounce: ...thanks for the kind word.

Dock needs some torn paper here and there ...maybe a broken or in way of completion boat on it...and then of for the next part in this idea...don't know yet which will be.. :D
the boats..yes...coffee.....

03-07-2006, 08:34 AM

Same ...but with wires as rendered.
Modeling Proc.
_ Main skeleton from curves beveled as polys.
_ outer body ...simple boxes beveled and bended.
_ Ropes are paintFX converted in Polys...as u might notice under them are nurb surfaces on boat corners. They been made paintable and then painted on them the ropes. Converted after ropes to polys.
That's it...
Hope u like it...If u see something missing please let me know..i made this in turbo mode today in my work breaks..lol

C&C are welcomed.

03-07-2006, 08:35 PM
Please forgive me for not answering right now separately to everyone...express work came in ..and i have to dive in... :banghead: :banghead: ...

Thanks everybody for comments and crits....

:bounce: ...got to work ...arghhh... :banghead:

03-07-2006, 08:35 PM
boy that was fast. I Like the boat very much dimi but it feels like the dock is more modern looking than the feel on the boat. u have metallic barrels and lights on top of the peer and the boat feels royally but old . Great modelling nevertheless . always great to see your creations :D

03-07-2006, 08:37 PM
Good Point Agamemnwn...That is why the barrels of iron and the the storage house was also the tires under dock will leave and i will make something more apropriate to their civilitasion...Good Point  ...

Arghhh...i was hoping to change that before someone notice.... :argh:

03-07-2006, 10:26 PM

03-08-2006, 12:43 AM
Wow, nice update!

03-08-2006, 01:28 AM
hmmmm, and old part of town on a futuristic mega city? something that havent changed with time? a journey to the new , to the modern from the old? (brainstorming here, stop me if its bothering u) . picture flowing to the upper left and the building center it there so it needs a payback there, something for the eye to focus after travelling from the dock and the boat.

03-08-2006, 06:21 AM
wow cool boat and cool composition

03-08-2006, 06:25 AM
That's gorw quickly... congratulations my friend  nothing to crit for the moment... good basis now to explore the compo...

03-08-2006, 10:39 AM
@ pedja.k ...hi, thanks man..Well in good mood i am always , i think :scream: , i just as all of us here, work like nuts also. This is the problem. U need time after the idea is in your head to fix every little detail. Cuase that is where the nice stuff is hidden...in details. And u need time for those .

@ rattlesnake ...hi my friend...i am really enjoying your work already. Go rattle :bounce: .

@ Vedic kings ...gracias :) .

@ Agamemnwn ....u can brainstorm as much as u like..it's good for you  . The balance is important here ...the horizon is dividing not only the two different civilizations but also it has...the horizon line there..i mean..the transintio from close to far point of image must be smooth. What i am trying to say in my poor Engrish is that in this image the modeling part isn't the difficult one. It will finish very soon. The lighting and atmosphere willbe the key. It's difficult ...there is my challenge this time..again...:argh: :scream: . Thanks man for thinking out loud.

@ the best ..i think too ..so far. Thanks.

@ Lemog ...thanks Laurent, i believe so too...meaningh now i can see what it is needed in modeling better and what is needed regarding color , lights and volumetrics.. (by the way ..still no news by that Professor...so sorry...i think i will call him again...i am NUTS ..so it's ok ...isn't it?...lol)

@ Queensoul ...hey Lady , thanks...the part u will enjoy most is coming soon.

@ MichaelMotion ...hehehe, thanks , but there is no way i can make guys like you look bad man...no matter how hard i try...:) .

@ shakes ...thanks friend. It needs a lot of work , but it's coming together piece by piece.

@ kinomoto ..thanks friend. Yes..patience is the key in this stuff i think. :)

@ Elendil le Grand ...thanks friend..it's coming...

@ Zapan ...French Nut (another one:) )... i hope so my friend...u have been starting Ladies making i see ...yeah..i will come and ..droole...err...see them i mean more carefully soon.

03-08-2006, 11:06 AM
I swear to god if I hadnt watch you make that boat in front of me Id be calling you a cheater....:scream:

THAT WAS FAST... :bounce:

(I hate the ornaments but I told you that in real time)

03-08-2006, 11:08 AM
(by the way ..still no news by that Professor...so sorry...i think i will call him again...i am NUTS ..so it's ok ...isn't it?...lol)

Don't worry Dadda... no prob for me... I can start it anyway... just maybe some details can miss me (and difference of colors information about certain details regardings few books)... but it's not a so big prob... and I don't receive the documentation... I've planed to start it next week... but I can change of pavilion and wait a little.
Do as you can do... but not too much... and that will be enough... thanks again Dimi

03-08-2006, 11:10 AM
it's going well neighbour.i'm already excited.good luck

03-08-2006, 01:03 PM

03-08-2006, 01:57 PM
yeah nice begining, looks like a fast good start!

03-08-2006, 03:12 PM
great stuff so far dude, no crits at all, keep it up buddy

03-08-2006, 03:21 PM
Great modeling! A very promising pic... Nothing to grumble at, but finally I found one problem:)

The pieces of wood the boat is made of are too rounded on their external side, such a boat would quickly sink:)

OK, it`s really the only problem I could find. Good luck!

03-08-2006, 04:18 PM
yoo hoo Demi... here Iīm :bounce:

your latest update makes me wanna hire a boat and go to that town... I-wanna-go-there-look to it :)
but Iīm off again to put on my boots, go outside and showel snow...

03-08-2006, 05:39 PM

...Er....i started building a human base face ..but i found it less fun than really try to make a funky Alien...lol...so ..here is a start of him .I will probable give him as much detail as possible 'cuase i will probably use him also for the face on the man on the dock...this is fun...

What do you think ? .. :)

03-10-2006, 11:25 AM
@ monsitj ...hi !! yup, probably the design of him will go to Chinese style or something similar ...but not the face i think..hehehe. :scream:

@ the best, lotaH, Vedic kings ...thanks friends...

@ soapy ...hheheh...there's enough rum there don't worry. Thanks man...by the way , love your work so far ...it's a really fun thread to follow, your's, to follow  .

@ Alberto_Ro ...thanks but not yet...i am going to be svery slow from now on..i intend to study very hard the ins and out of Displacement in Zb through the characters......but it will be much fun in there..:)

03-11-2006, 01:18 PM
Hhahaha dimi...great stuff... going for boat people instead of butt people, eh..

Only crit so far is that I would give the guy some more cheekbone. Aside from that, I really like the stylised look.. very star trek. :scream:

Whoah... I watched you casually create your stunning port with the greatedt of ease (as usual) but this is a real surprise for me Dimi... A great direction choice mate! Stalonus Alienatum is very cool but I found the chinless version in your WIP looked more unique and characterised... I think the big chin makes him look more human... Great flowlines BTW mate... Rockonandon:buttrock:

03-11-2006, 07:30 PM
fab model Dimitris..lovely texture and face design. great stuff!

03-11-2006, 07:36 PM

Damn you Dimi...I had a concept in mind with similar objects--->a boat and a ferryman! Hmm, maybe I should rethink up a new concept.

It's good to see that you are having fun. Isn't that what this is all about? Keep up the hard work buddy.

03-11-2006, 09:24 PM

The trio Noodges....comparison and stuff.

I know it wasn't needed to go to this detail...but i just couldn't help it...waaay too much fun with this.

Anyways ..i tried through same geometry to try to give birth to different personalitie sby playing with basic detail on facial proportions...also tried to give him human like characteristics but still remain ..alien....

What do u think...

P.S ; this was too much fun...way too much...lol
