03 March 2006, 12:54 AM (

just ideas for now.. I figure I'd just shoot out some ideas and hopefully you guys can give me your opinions and ideas?

This first concept is about the journey of a young man that had to leave his family for an important mission. He flies off on his furry friend that is half lion, lizard and eagle.

03 March 2006, 12:56 AM
OH! Such an awesome concept!! Just sick dude!

03 March 2006, 01:07 AM
what a Sketch! nice angle, the creature allready looking great. goodluck

03 March 2006, 01:18 AM
sweet, such kick in such a simple sketch

03 March 2006, 02:39 AM

you could make the character face forward with a strong facial expression rather than facing down for a more powerful message thru emotion... tho hardly needed... just an idea...

good luck!

03 March 2006, 02:57 AM
Wooow, this is really cool! Great concept. :applause:

03 March 2006, 04:10 AM
fantastic start bobby~love where ya heading now!

03 March 2006, 04:19 AM
Cool sketch. Concept sounds great. The view and composition's got drama potential with his hometown behind him as he flies away. Really intriguing on what creature design you're gonna come up with this "furry friend" of his.

03 March 2006, 05:21 AM
nice going...great drawing....:bounce: wating for final look.....good luck

03 March 2006, 05:39 AM
nice sketch man

i think the creature needs bulkier wings for its weight

just my opinion

good luck

03 March 2006, 06:46 AM
nice creature design! and dynamic composition ! bobby ! wait for more!

03 March 2006, 07:43 AM

03 March 2006, 02:28 PM

03 March 2006, 03:00 PM

Idea is interesting for now. Good luck ;)

03 March 2006, 07:49 AM
Bobby Chiu! I love your work. Even in this early step your piece looks great. This is also different from the style you usually seem to do your work in, I really like it. Keep it up!

03 March 2006, 07:58 AM
I liked the concept. But i came here now just to subscribe, huahuahuauha!

03 March 2006, 08:52 AM
awesom sketch bobby :D can wait to see you design the characters

03 March 2006, 01:47 PM
I like the perspective :)

The wings look a bit strange on the furry creature however - they don't seem to be able to catch air as they look vertical instead of horizontal. Maybe it's me.

Good luck :p

03 March 2006, 10:40 PM
The thing about the way you setup the scene is we see were he's coming from... but not were he's going... maybe you can explore some more point of views?

03 March 2006, 10:51 PM
Hey Bobby. I really enjoy your work so I'm lookin' forward to seeing how this develops. Only thing I'm not too sure of is the 'lizard' bit, but I love the lion-eagle combo. But then again you could probably pull it off and impress me.

03 March 2006, 11:10 PM
Wow great sketch!!!

can't wait to see more...

the Peaga-Lion Thing looks cool already...

nice composition work...

03 March 2006, 12:10 AM
nice start bobby' it has a final fantasy touch., keep it up :)

03 March 2006, 02:58 AM
Very dynamic composition, looking forward to this one. Good luck!

03 March 2006, 11:37 AM
One of the best composition for the moment.

03 March 2006, 01:47 PM
the perspective does give a sense of movement that a greta journey is about to begin. i look forward to see the direction the facial expression takes in conveying this.

03 March 2006, 06:53 PM
Oh yes. Great feeling of motion!

03 March 2006, 06:58 PM
ARGH! When will we see an update!?! Getting impatient here :bounce: ...

Nah, of course take your time! I know it'll be worth the wait !! :buttrock:

03 March 2006, 10:12 PM

03 March 2006, 02:56 PM

03 March 2006, 03:40 PM

Almost I missed your thread! Good luck Bobby! Concept looks great, have fun :)

03 March 2006, 08:38 PM
hey bobby,

Hows it going, concept looks really cool, I like how you really feel like the lion is suspended in the air. I can't wait to see how this develops. Good luck!

Cheers :)

03 March 2006, 08:39 PM
That griffin is great, so solid looking even though you're only at the sketch stage

03 March 2006, 08:04 AM
It looks great man. I think you should make them darker. Like more Negabot-ish. Big gun plane is way badder ass that big truck.

Anyhow I look forward to seein' future posts

03 March 2006, 11:18 AM
that is a winning piece! can`t wait to see the colors :)

03 March 2006, 11:19 AM

03 March 2006, 10:43 AM

03 March 2006, 11:00 AM
Hey Bobby. I'm glad to see you back at work. That lion looks fantastic. We want to see more soon.

03 March 2006, 11:54 AM
It rocks!! :buttrock: Keep it up! I will follow... :bounce:

03 March 2006, 04:21 PM
beautiful work Bobby, as always! I love the flying lion, especially in the smaller shot, where he looks like he has his head pushed into his chest, really going for the take off in a big way. Your animals always bow me away, regardless of style. Can't wait to see some development!

03 March 2006, 06:54 PM
Hey Bobby,

Love the new concept, it's excellent. There's far more movement and power in this one. The stance of the rider is good and the lions head is agressively looking in the direction they're heading, I love it. If the second lions head is a possible choice there I would definitely stick with the one 'attached', it works better for the direction they're going in as well as gives the lion more 'attitude'. The city in the background also works nicely and the composition looks great. Looking forward to seeing this one finished.

03 March 2006, 08:15 PM
ohh now this is just wondeful!! Great work on the movement of the creature. Wonderful sketches!

03 March 2006, 08:19 AM
Hey Bobby, nice to see u update something! U still have my support good luck dude!

03 March 2006, 04:50 AM (

I did another quick study for the final painting. I like to do at least 3 versions like this before I get down to the final. It helps me figure out any technical problems I might have. This way in my final piece I should be able to paint much more freely.

Thanks to everyone that has been commenting and visiting!

03 March 2006, 05:08 AM
kewl, looking forward to your other variations then, the initial look of the citiscape looks promissing, great mix between fantasy and scifi feel.

I have a small crit. the cam focusses on the city instead on the animal wich lets it have a feel of motionblur blur on the wrong subject. if that makes sense.
Roll the cam might help that too to get a feeling like its "filmed" form another flying object and the cam follows the movement of it.
An option also worth a try maybe could be to close up the cam more on your flying animal that just leaves town, so closer objects get more affected by the movement, and instead of straightforwards already on rising.
The actual composition looks a bit like an architectural presentation where the animal flys trough.
Of course thats only my personal point of view, still hope that made sense, and was usfull in the one or the other point :) keep up the great work mate, as i said looking forward to your other composition variations, rock on!

03 March 2006, 05:11 AM
great sketch bobby~i'd agreed with sacha,i'd have the character to be in focus but at the same time wouldnt defocusing too much of the vast epic background.could add some forground elements as well:)keep it coming bob:thumbsup:

03 March 2006, 09:41 PM
great city scape and superb composition! I agree with angel about focusing to the wrong place, either its still in the starting phase and Im sure u were planing to change that in the future steps. But a little bit of motion blur on the characters wouldnt hurt as well, after all they r moving with all that power and energy thru the air. I like it very much!

03 March 2006, 10:26 PM
Hey thanks for the helpful crits guys! I agree as well! I'm going with something more close up like my original composition posted below.

03 March 2006, 12:45 AM
Yeah I would agree with the other guys as well Bobby, I am interested what u do next dude, good luck again!

03 March 2006, 02:14 AM
wowies, thats a huge difference, I get an instant feeling for the power of this scene, this new angle has a great energy and i guess i can describe this version with 3 words: I love it!  :buttrock: hehe, cant wait to see your next version!
