Well this is one of my ideas set in a far off place, where the character's start they're journey on huge winged creatures.

Here's two rough concept sketches, one is light hearted with three heroes setting out on a quest and the other has a darker mood to it, an army setting out to war.

The story is about a few travelers who are trying to leave an isolated valley and this scene is where the journey really begins at the base of the mountains. The big creature is a mixture of a dog, cat and an ape. Anyway i wasn't happy with any of my previous concepts they seemed to lack something.

there's a great sense of tension in this one. the characters are being hunted and they don't seam to be aware of it. i also like the one with the thumbs-up 'statue of liberty' arm. kind of a non-sequitor, but a really nice image.
i look forward to seeing more. and i'm jelous that you live in scotland.
someday i will live there.

Worked on a bit of the background today. Really only focusing on the mountains.

Thanks anzibon, I don't know if I like the pose of the two character's as if they aren't aware of this beast, they should really look startled/scared from it.
lol, Scotland, remember to bring a raincoat when you come. :D

More background work

Adding more detail and light to the scene. I think I'll go back to the drawing board though and think up another concept. I like the idea and piece but it just doesn't fit in with the journey begins.

After getting some inspiration I decided to start sketching out some ideas and came up with this conception. The story behind the image is about a once great ancient civilisation which had built their city in the side of a mountain. My original concept had normal pillars supporting the ceiling, that idea then changed into statues in the place of pillars for the support. The journey begins for the travelers leaving the city, but I wanted to view the scene in a different perspective as if you where a guard looking down at them leaving. This gives the added bonus to produce a scenic backdrop.
