This image popped in my head last night.
A young family leaving the city and heading out to their new home in the country.
In the dessert they ask for directions at a gas station.
To give it a fun twist, I thought about some futuristic and classic elements, like a classic looking hoovering car.
I thought that would be a nice contrast.
02-28-2006, 04:26 PM
Just exploring my first idea with some quick character sketches.

03-01-2006, 05:52 AM
great~very nice for a head start:)
I like the concept, but I love those characters!
So much personality in each and everyone of them..
Can't wait for more.. :)

Okay so the classic small party heads out on an epic journey to save the world from being destroyed and along the way meet people who join up with them concept.
I was thinking of a huge beautifull fantasy/sci-fi city with our heroes as the main focus.
Some partymembers are amazed by the look and feel of the city because they've never actually been in one. Cityfolk stare at the group because, well they look odd.
Before even sketching out the idea I came up with some diverse character designs first.
I dunno, I think this could be a great piece, but it might be too cliche.
I'm still kinda leaning towards the first concept.
03-01-2006, 09:48 PM
Great stuff man!
03-01-2006, 09:49 PM
Cool stuff rude, Keep em coming dude!
03-01-2006, 10:06 PM
Cool characters.. Ill check back for some more ;).. Good luck and have fun!
03-01-2006, 10:21 PM
nice epic idea... characters are looking good.. like to see how it evolves
03-02-2006, 12:33 AM
I still like the first concept more, it sounds like it would be great with a 50s twist, like the concept art from the Incredibles or something along these lines. I'd love to see more of this!
03-02-2006, 12:50 AM
A quick composition sketch for my second idea.
I chose to only show two of the leading characters and make them seem younger then in my original character designs.
I don't think I will be going with this one, although I like it a lot, I feel like it's done before and I rather go with something more original for this challenge.
However I did wanted to show it to you guys.
Maybe something for a future project.
What do you guys think?
03-02-2006, 12:53 AM
Thank you all!! :)
Theresa, yes I kinda like that first idea better as well.
Hmm a 50s twist sounds great, good idea thanks!!
03-02-2006, 01:53 AM
I think that the idea of a family leaving the city is a very good concept, but I have an idea, what happens if this family is going to leave the city for a long period of time?, it could be very interesting if they appears in the street and say goodbye to one person or a group of neighboard´s, I don´t know, I see the big buildings in your second sketch and think in the family saying good bye to one person in the second floor of the building, something like that. Is just a crazy idea, I hope it could give you more concepts for you first idea
03-02-2006, 02:06 AM
rudy ~great one~both the main character seems like traveled into a place where they never been to,whih awe and curious about the city they'r exploring now.u r going on the oriental approach too eh~haha.i like it:scream:
03-02-2006, 11:43 AM
@huitlacoche: thank you very much :) hmm that sounds like a good idea, but I think there are already people with sort of similar concepts and, well I kinda liked my first concept.
But yeah your idea could work, I'll keep it mind!
@Michael: thanx man! hahaha yeah well I've always loved oriental stuff + I'm a big fan of classic japanese RPG games like Final Fantasy, I think you could see some influences :p
But I'm not sure if I'll go with this one because, well I noticed it kinda is similar to your concept actually, although your concept is about someone at the beginning of the journey and mine already came a long way.
03-02-2006, 05:08 PM
Still kinda exploring the idea of a small party on a mission to save the planet.
This is the point when they face a huge enemy, bossfight!!!
03-02-2006, 08:36 PM
Still exploring some stuff.
Die laatste schets is echt goed.. Lotta stuff happening.
That's what happens on a great Journey or Quest, a lot..
Lovely busy piece.. ;)
03-03-2006, 05:07 PM
This last Sketch looks very promising. These next months are going to be full of posibilities. Great style . Keep it up.
Oh, I love the callousness of the character with the cigarette! But it looks more like they are returning than beginning a journey.
03-03-2006, 07:03 PM
Thanks guys! :)
JTD, well I kinda had an idea they were having a sort of pitstop in this huge city, airship is getting refueled and these two characters head out into the city to look for new parts or something along those lines.
Just exploring some things.
very cool sketches
your style is great ... im looking forward to what you'll come up with next :)
03-06-2006, 04:29 PM
Hey man, your characters looks great too, the sky , nice sketch, and I will lookin forward to see more from you cheers:)
03-06-2006, 04:36 PM
Wow! I like the ship very much, and the way tou design your characters.
I´ll be waiting to see the color...
03-06-2006, 07:22 PM
Vahn: hey thanks Adrian :) nice to see you
Michael Chang: hey thank you very much man!
Nigio: well thank you :) don't think I will be going with this one though, I've seen other people using an airship concept so I'll drop it...I think..
Right now I'm kinda leaning to the city concept, although I had some doubts at first it kinda grew on me the past few days and I think it could be a great colorfull piece.
Still like the young family on their way to a new home concept a lot, defenitly a piece I wanna do someday, maybe for the challenge...hmmmm tough.
03-07-2006, 12:35 AM
New concept, a traveling samurai warrior on the back of an oriental dragon.
03-07-2006, 02:23 AM
i like that sky harbour better~the samurai on the dragon didnt really convey much but i'd sure like to see where u lead that to:scream:
03-07-2006, 11:47 AM
Thanks bro! I do like the sky harbor idea as well, but I saw other people using some sort of airship as their main concept, so I decided to drop it for now, might pick it up again though.
I think the samurai dragon concept could work if I emphasise the traveling theme, put elements like luggage in there.
03-15-2006, 03:22 PM
The dragon idea is by far my favourite concept of yours, although all the themes you've been playing with are strong and the scetches amazing. Think maybe this is the one you should go for and pack that sucker with detail. Luggage is a great start.
03-18-2006, 03:53 AM
very nice. well i liked the 4 adventurers what about reviving them and start their journey on the dragon harbor :D show a rude takoff or arguing about dragonflight taxes...
03-18-2006, 06:31 AM
Sky harbor seems to be a cool idea, do that one!
03-27-2006, 04:14 AM
hehe, zup mate, just hoped to see an update, so prolly sum cheerlleading helps:
Update update go rudy go!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
gime an r gime a u geme a d gimy a y
rudy rudy wheee bring it on!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
erm i might have other talents :p still: come on, waitin for that update mate!
03-27-2006, 10:24 AM
asbassie: Thanx! yeah I like that concept, but I think it might be to simple for a challenge entry. I think it would be strongest if you see the dragon and samurai against a background of sky only.
But then there wouldn't be much going on and I want to do a piece with lots of stuff happening, so I'll drop this idea for now.
Bryce: Thanx! well I kinda had the feeling sky harbor wouldn't be that fresh like this, but I thought of a concept of mixing something like sky harbor with my first concept.
Sacha: lol!! thanx man! :p
I had to do a lot of stuff lately so I didn't really find any time to update, but I should have something new today, keep watching :bounce:
03-27-2006, 11:48 AM
So here's a quick thumbnail of this new idea I had.
I liked the concept of a young family heading out to their new home in the country, but I also liked the idea of a huge futuristic metropolis and the sky harbor concept.
I decided to mix all three concepts and show some people loading up a moving truck somewhere high above the ground.
There would be flying traffic everywhere.
Of course stuff like a huge futuristic city and flying traffic has been done about a million times before, I do think the idea of a moving truck would be a strong and maybe funny detail, besides it fits the theme really well I think.
To add a cool twist to the picture I want to give it a sort of 50's/60's feel with hoovering Tbirds and classic Volkswagon vans and stuff like that.
Although the city is huge, cramped and dirty, I think a bright, sunny and overall colorfull feel would be much nicer than a dark, gray-ish filthy city wich is most common in these kind of concepts.
What do you guys think?
03-27-2006, 11:51 AM
great concept so far, ill keep this one watched to see where you take it =) always a fan of sky cars!
03-30-2006, 10:20 AM
