02-28-2006, 06:53 AM (

This is the first idea. I'm probably not going to run with this though as it feels a little too "Primary School Poster" for my liking. I'll do a few more ideas.

02-28-2006, 07:04 AM

Just churning out ideas. i'm aiming for a kid who is setting out of his home for a day of fun, but for him, naturally it's a huge journey of adventure.

02-28-2006, 10:35 AM (

Ewww... this one not so good.

02-28-2006, 02:22 PM
Maybe not great, but there's still something appealing about the image :) He kind of radiates enthusiasm which is a good thing! Looking forward to more!

02-28-2006, 03:06 PM
yo erilaz! good luck man, ah you already got some stuff drawn.
Go get 'em!

02-28-2006, 03:17 PM
I think the 2nd concept sketch is absolutely charming Martin :) Looking forward to seeing where you're going with this.

02-28-2006, 05:26 PM

(he should. hold. a teacup....)

03-01-2006, 06:35 AM
I agree with Peter and Alisa... even for a rough sketch there really is something appealing about it. You can sense the enthusiasm which is great :)

03-01-2006, 06:47 AM
Goodmorning Martin,

I like the second one as well . its the feel of a kids adventure. Great start :D

03-02-2006, 04:58 AM
Hey guys, thatnks for the overwhelming support! I'm throwing the boy concepts into my 3D one, but i'm not abandoning the 2D one yet. More concepts to come!

03-02-2006, 08:01 AM (

This one is going to be a more serious one. i'm looking for a more impressive march of golden heroes out of some majestic sort of castle. I'll refine the idea as I go. As I stated before, the Child concept will be punted over to my 3D section!

03-02-2006, 08:40 AM
great concept martin . I like it very much . when i show it the first thing that poped in my head was maybe they are crusaders :D great job

03-02-2006, 09:24 AM

I like that idea. waving maidens on the battlements and such.

...when reading through the challenge overview page I was like "Who is Martin Brennand? Ah, erilaz..." getting accustomed to people's pseudonyms can be a strange thing :D

03-02-2006, 10:01 AM
Ack.. keeping a watch on both 2D and 3D threads will be difficult! Like the last concept! Really like the second one as well, but if you'll concentrate on that one in the 3D category, I'll let you off:)

03-02-2006, 05:09 PM
The one with the fella striding out of his house is lovely, it's so purposeful! Obviously a little more work will refine it much more, but I think you should ...oh, wait..just read that you're pushing it over to the 3d section. Hmm....go with the castle one then!

I think you should try and push the values more on the castle concept though. It's got potential, baby!

03-03-2006, 12:16 PM (

I like this idea a lot better. A swirling vortex to the gods-know-where, and a man you're not sure you can trust.

Agamemnwn: The crusading idea had come to mind... but I think it's mainly to do with the stone I want to use... very yellow old and ruinous. I think i'll go with my current concept however.

Mu: Thanks! Heh... I wanted to do maidens, but the thought was a little too much. I still have to call people by their username.. it's weird!

Carina: Heh... I'm trying my best to stay focused on one at a time!!!

paperclip:Thanks a lot! I think my balance of 2d and 3d is going to be severely influenced by how I feel each day!

Anyhoo.. i'm feeling a lot beter about this one. I'm going for tense lighting and as real as possible, so i'm going to have to flex those observation and patience muscles!

03-03-2006, 12:34 PM
nice mystical and adventurus :D i like it very much Martin :D

03-03-2006, 01:45 PM
Niiice Martin :). Got some perspective issues on the hand there, but thats easily fixed :D I love the glowing characters and swirling vortex - great concept. Hope you take this one somewhere!

03-03-2006, 01:46 PM
I see you are going for a KISS concept. Simple, to the point and hits the theme. Lets see what you can work out with it.

03-05-2006, 01:15 PM
heya Martin, that man doesn't look trustworthy :D which is a good thing :)
Maybe make him point or gesture to the vortex with his other hand too. This will emphasize his intentions of trying to get you into that vortex. Also you could move the man a bit to the right so that he doesn't block off too much of the path and view leading to the vortex. Standing more on the side like some err doorman :)

03-05-2006, 09:07 PM
Very intriguing and not at all like your ordinary style, Martin!

I'm curious to see where you go with this- I'm afraid I must disagree with marlon though, maybe gesturing would make the scene too obvious. You could have his hand raised though, covering his face a bit but still extended out to the viewer, to make him seem more mysterious and sinister,

03-12-2006, 11:47 AM (

Starting to work out the design for the image. I'm nutting out the composition in my head, and the character of my man (young/old, neat/rough etc.), but for now I'm working out environment, which will play a key role.

03-12-2006, 12:11 PM
Hey erilaz! Looking good, I like your concepts. I look forward to seeing more sketches :D

03-12-2006, 09:35 PM
HI Martin

I'm definitely liking the third image best myself - I have a fondness for the symbolic crossed with the literal and your concept has both elements of "journey" - into some mysterious place, and into some mysterious relationship...

Good luck

03-13-2006, 07:49 PM
Hi!! Best of luck to you!!:)

03-13-2006, 08:44 PM
I've seen every one of those shapes in the toilet bowl. I'd go with the top middle. It appeals to me the most.

03-14-2006, 09:25 PM
